  1. Thanks guys. Where can I get the Techmod stuff here in Cali?
  2. Does anyone have any idea where I can find a 1/48 decal sheet for this kit? I got this kit as a gift. It's the 1994 box. The decal sheet that comes with it is completely shot. Touch it and it turns to dust.. I found an Aries update kit that looks cool but without good decals I don't know if I want to spend $70 for it. Alan
  3. I am planning to build one or two that represent birds that were in one of the airwings I was in. VF-24 and VF-211 both from CAG 9 on the Constellation in '78-'79.
  4. Well as expected there are a lot of opinions. I am looking for a fairly accurate A model. Dagger said: "Academy, if you donĀ“t mind too much about the somewhat strange nose...." I saw a Tomcat at a show this weekend that looked funny. I believe it was the Academy so it's out. I didn't like it. Plus the sidewinders looked to short. i don't know if they were the kit winders or scratch but they didn't look right. So it looks like the Academy is out. Since it will be posed on land it will have the wings back and loaded ready to start turning so I may change to Has, HB or Revell. Thanks for
  5. Judging by your handle you were an AO3 working F-14s on a CVN. Cool.

    IYAOYAS!

  6. Hasegawa or Academy? Which is the better kit?

    Propeller Help

Hey Curt It's not something I would normally pick up but the choices that were left were worse. It does look like there are some alignment issues to be worked out with the spinner which I think I can deal with. After looking at the parts thy don't seem to be as bad as my 1/72 Italeri F-8 that I picked up at the same raffle. Can you say major flash and fit problems?

    Propeller Help

I am getting ready to start my first prop plane. A Hobby Craft 1/48 Hawker Sea Fury. It's an older kit I picked up at a raffle. I'm looking at how to put the prop together. Should I put it on the blades on the hub first then put on the spinner cap... Or should I put the spinner cap on then insert the blades? I've seen a tool for aligning prop blades but it was only for 3 or 4 bladed props. What about 5 bladed? Is there an easy way of aligning them? Any help is welcome.
  10. I finally finished my 2nd build. Is it perfect? No! Is there room for improvement? Yes! Did I learn anything on this build? Yes...A LOT!. Am I happy with it? For my second build yes. There are flaws that I'm aware of such as seams could have been filled better. I'm sure there are some I'm not aware of. Here is a link to my WIP Have a look. I used Fightertown decals, Royale Resin weighted wheels and drop tank and Eduards PE in the cockpit. ALL constructive comments welcome! The canopy needs to be closed more! I couldn't get the decals on the tailhook properly so I pa
  11. Well I finally finished the build of the super bug. I had more WIP pics but did something real stupid. I was taking pictures of my wifes students art work on one card and wip pics on another. I went down to take some shots the other day and reformatted the card thinking it was the card of old art pics. Nope!: . So I'm not able to show the amazing tricks I performed to get everything perfect . I took a bunch of finished photos today and will post them tomorrow in the completed section. In the mean time here's one of them. Thanks for looking.
  12. I started my second ever build a while back. It was to be a learning build so that my next build would (hopefully) benefit from my experiences. Well I learned a BIG lesson...PATIENCE! In my exuberance to try the new Eduard masks for the canopy I put them on, applied a liquid mask painted and applied the frame rails. One thing I forgot to do... polish the canopy and apply some Future. When I un-masked the canopy I saw some little scratches on the inside and tried sanding them out with progressively smaller grit sandpaper up to 12000 grit. The result? With the frame rails on I couldn't get a
  13. Thermal coated(rough) Mk 80 series had two yellow stripes. Non thermal coated (smooth) had one.
  14. I'll give it a try the next time I have some bad seams. I tried a couple of different techniques on this build. And since this is a learning build I have learned quite a bit. Thanks Alan
  15. That's how I did it only heavy handed. After watching planes and cars being painted I used those techniques only scaled down. Of course when painting a 1:1 car or plane you aren't interested in panel lines. This sounds tedious but I can see the advantage. I think part of my problem is poor lighting. I'm going to invest in some better/more lighting before painting my SLUF Thanks for the tips Curt.
  16. She's dry already. Alclad Gloss dries in about an hour. I let it sit a little longer though. One drawback to it.... I was going to use some oil paint for some of the weathering but since it's lacquer based not acrylic like Future, the thinner used to wipe away the oil paint may take some of the gloss off and possibly gray paint. Not good. Next comes the weathering.
  17. Well the last month and a half has seen a lot of progress but not a lot of photos. I've been decaling in my free time... and there were a lot of SMALL decals. I tried to take some pics of them but there was so little contrast they didn't show up so I tossed them. Today I put the final sealing gloss coat on the under side in prep for dirt and grease :D. Right now it's sitting in seclusion while it dries. Photos to come soon. I did get some photos of the completed centerline drop tank. I used Flory (formally ProModellers) wash on it then a nice dull coat. This is my first attempt at weathering
  18. Thanks Jesse. I didn't like the kit HUD. It was one piece of ugly plastic. After looking at my reference photos I thought this shouldn't be to difficult, the Eduards PE frame made it go together well.I hope nobody gets a ruler and measures it. It was purely eyeballed but to me it looks real close to the real thing so I'm happy. The $1.99 for the plastic was worth it.
  19. Looking good Chuck. Can't wait to see more.
