  1. hi chuck 0.50 cal shells you say? I used Mission Models 1/35 0.50 cal shells & belts successfully on a 1/32 Corsair - it was one of the fiddliest things ever but well worth the results if you can track them down I recommend it these are the spent shells but you can also get unfired rounds - in fact there's one in the picture, right at the top in the middle
  2. The right side is similar in some respects, but it also has the hugely complicated system of pipes for the wing de-icer system. The de-icer boots themselves were removed from combat B-17s because if damaged, they would flap around and get wrap around the control surfaces - however the pipework remained. Here's the real deal, both pre and post-restoration: And here's mine - plastic sheet, strip and rod. I added some extra realism with Aber 1/24 photo etched cable ties - these are designed for model cars but work perfectly well in 1/32
  3. and here I have to split up the number of images I post at once.....
  4. Thanks for checking it out guys! Here's another update... update 05/02/13* Hi - here's my latest update. First off, I've managed to glue the fuselage halves together - this meant fixing the ball turret in place. The real thing has bolts all around the rim, so I glue the turret into its mounting & made the bolts from plastic rod: Next I decided to concentrate on the wing / fuselage joins - once the wings are removed there is a wealth of detail revealed on each side of the plane - the left is different from the right. Here are some photos of the left side - all photos are courtesy
  5. maybe your subscription ran out? photobucket has also just gone to its beta site (which sucks by the way)
  6. I'm wondering if any of you armour buffs can help? I'm building a dio of a B-17 fuselage (1/32) on a trailer, pulled by a suitable vehicle (1/35) - I want to do an 8th Air Force machine being recovered in England by both USAAF and US Army personnel & vehicles. If that's not possible, i would show the aircraft being recovered from the field in France post D-Day. I bought the fantastic Accurate Armour Diamond T-969 Wrecker at great expense. I have the trailer from Tamiya's Dragon Wagon kit. I'll modify it into a 40 foot Federal C2 Trailer as used by the USAAF. Halfway through building
  7. time for a bump still got 40 or so books to sell, please take a look - postage anywhere in the world (except china) with P&P discounts for multiple purchases! please check photos, then check descriptions below to see if still available, then drop me a line! Rich
  8. I've got a large number of Osprey titles to sell. 99% of these are 'unread' - they've never been looked at and are as they were when bought from the shop. I've tried to describe them as accurately as possible and have rated each book according to this system - 'mint' means the book is absolutely mint condition with no visible damage 'unread' means the book has been never been looked at, but there may be one or two small faults such as sunlight bleaching of the cover - this information is provided next to each book title. 'very good' (used) means the book is second hand, but has been well
  9. either just soak it off in water or give it a coat of microscale liquid decal film, let it dry for a few minutes, then soak it off in water & re use
  10. to quote ace ventura, B.E. UUUTIFUL!
  11. just buy a resin casting starter kit from MDC for £35 & do it yourself, easy
  12. great attention to detail! Should be a great model when finished
  13. thanks! & thanks for checking it out Rich
  14. deal with confidence! International order received in good time & great condition
  15. next time you boil some eggs, stick the foil in with them - the calcium carbonate (or something like that) will discolour the foil. You can get the same effect by boiling it with some copper pennies as for heat discolouration, weathering powders / ladies eyeshadow (purple shades) works well - if you can get it to adhere
  16. cheers bud! I got a job lot in the last Squadron sale - i knew they were hard to find so I got a dozen packs I used the bullets & links in my last project (F4U-4 Corsair) - quite possibly the most time consuming thing ever, but totally worth it:
  17. hi guys thanks for the kind words! Glad it passes muster, especially with you Americans - I know there's a lot of experts on the other side of the pond so I hope I've got it right. Having said that, there's plenty of margin for 'interpretive' modelling - period photos of the interior of the plane are relatively scarce, whereas restored aircraft are ten a penny - there are literally thousands of images available. A lot of mine come from the warbird information exchange forums - for example someone recently posted up a photo documentary of the entire restoration & reconstruction of the B
  18. ball turret test fitted - minus mounting pole & oxygen bottle: these are the Mission Models 0.50 cal shells - ultra realistic, I love them! some abandoned Verlinden maps for the radio room: view through forward crew access hatch - rudimentary detail was added as some of it will be visible - if you peer hard enough with a torch that is: mounts for waist guns: all painted up: they attach like this - plexiglass windows will be scratched & made to fit around them: AND THAT'S ABOUT IT FOR NOW The above pictures represent where I'm up to now...in fact I'm slightly ahe
  19. thanks Jim - I'm having fun doing it ! am building the wrecker that will tow the load concurrently but I won't bore you with that at the moment. It's a beautiful kit though - here's what it'll look like unpainted: Also received the Tamiya Dragon Wagon in the mail today! Should be a nice challenge to convert that into an army air force 40 foot flatbed :monkeydance:/> here's the rear fuselage with some basic paint applied: note entry hole for whatever projectile blew out the opposite fuselage - 88 shell perhaps? added some battle debris - an abandoned flak helmet (made
