  1. just trawling through hannants 1/48 harrrier collection to see which to buy and noticed that theres a 1/48 GR7 operaton Telic harrier on future releases!! ive wanted to do an RAF harrier as they were in Iraq for ages but only way was to buy a sheet with like 8 other decals on!
  2. dont believe it was on, however i think its maybe personal choice as maybe did have them on in early stages alternatively you could model it just before OIF or a certain month during OIF. I think the decals represent at the end or late on in OIF because will have total amount of mission markings or close to it. Obviously u could choose to not put these on or put only a few on.
  3. revell tomcat better???? Are you kidding me?????? The version of the revell kit i got sucked! I got the revell kit to build a D but its essentially an A with the different engine nozzles. True it can look neat but its gonna take a lot of work! Generally fit is poor with quite a few bad seams where there are joins. Also i found kit decals were covered in a yellow gunk stuff which kinda half peeled off when i applied the decals and they badly silvered. Also revell kit has a mix of raised recessed panel lines(on wings only). Also as mentioned no drop tanks and the weapons detail is p
  4. whats the humbrol colour most suitable for the royal navy phantom?? its like a weird dark blue with a hint of grey!!!

the glove vanes were only on F14A's and B's and would open when approaching supersonic speed being fully open (sticking out!) when the plane was going supersonic. Purpose was to (apparently) improve performance at high speeds however F14D's which were new airframes were built without glove vanes so fill in the gap best you can.....................

  7. Ok im looking for pics of the topside of tomcatter 101 from OIF.Thats the red tailed bird which was BUNO 164600 and tail code was NK. Im trying to find out how far back the black skunk stripe goes back cos ive seen small and longer versions. On airliners there is a pic of what the tomcatters 101 bird (BUNO 164603) tail code AJ looked like from last cruise and the stripe extends quite far back. here it is http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1114...next_id=1113977 So would stripe on 101 go that far back during OIF? Also did 101 have the walkway squares above intakes since i have seen some
  8. these pics from airliners were about the best i could find and they dont show undersides of wings unfortunately. there are over 900 hunter pics on airliners.net though so if i missed some.............. anyway here they are: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0967...next_id=0909191 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0899...next_id=0889312
  9. am i the only one who thought the interesting thing was that it said roaring sucess??? :D maybe im just biased and this tomcat retiring thing and super hornet taking over every job in your guys navy is getting to me.......
  10. heres one for mario a pic of my 56 squadron lightning in BMF with a suitable caption:
  11. check this out a squaddie getting buzzed (intentionally) by a harrier! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpJ6QMhUmiM...related&search= its when he goes im not gonna flinch its like hmmm yeah right!! .................and the army said the RAF isnt good at army co-operation :)
  12. dang we'll never go this fast in a superhornet............................. :D sure looks cool hmmmm im now thinking of adding cotton wool to my 1/32 tomcat in flight model to get that effect!!!
  13. its not at all a stupid question! i had the same dilemna im currently building vf-31 tomcatter 101 from OIF. Ive tried checking hannants.co.uk and there is nothing in pictures to suggest that the black box set gives you engine pieces etc. I decided to buy the 2 seperate sets Teknics do one is a cockpit set and one is an airframe set which give you the squared off engine housings along with the new B + D type engine nozzles and double chin pod. The cockpit set is also i think probly better than the black box one for sheer detail. if u buy the F14D cockpit set you get parts for B + D an
  14. ok my only problem with the f-22 is why the hell do you guys need 381!!! true its expensive but it is very advanced as mentioned i just dont see why you need so many advanced aircraft to bomb unsophisticated terrorists i mean jeez it aint the cold war anymore.
  15. basically they are silver ie bare metal so paint that then you should weather them with black chalk or whatever you use. Ive seen RAF phantoms (my fav phantoms for obvious reasons) where the metal section behind engines is completely black! also with heat etc some panels may look off colour slightly darker or even looking slightly gold. really my point is it depends on what aircraft you are modelling i would try and get specific reference pics! check these pics out: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0979...RFP&photo_nr=34 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=0979...next_id=09797
  16. looking at the daco book discovering the a/b/d tomcat the shrouds are varying shades of brown going from very dark to very light and faded and it mentions that often one side is weathered more due to crew contact etc. however as mentioned other colour are seen again its weathering since from what ive heard new shrouds were black so no wonder an odd purple brown is often seen!!
  17. yes sorry to bother you guys again but i got another question about the position of the intake ramps!!! Im building F14D tomcatter 101 was it was in OIF with a lantirn and 2 GBU-12'S only problem is nozzles in teknics kit are in open position and i want to build the bird as in flight! presumably could use afterburner in that configuration but not go supersonic? so for intake ramps either subsonic or transonic?? once again thanks!!!
  18. i bought the set a couple of months back and built jesters jet i was able to find a few ref pictures on airliners.net which were helpful.
  19. sorry to say it but the engines arent black they are a metallic gold type colour similiar to f110 nozzles as seen on f14D's and f16's. However they can look nearly black depending on how weathered they are or when photo is taken in poor light. check out these photos: http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1092...RFP&photo_nr=60 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1092...next_id=1091953 http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1034...next_id=1033708 the part just forward of them appears to be a dark silver/steel type colour.
  20. im building a 1/32 tomcat using the teknics update sets to make an F14D and was wondering were the air intakes locked in position on D model tomcats? ive heard it mentioned somewhere and want to confirm it: 1/32 is very unforgiving as far as detail goes! so id also need to know if they were locked in fully open position or whatever. thanks for any help guys!
  21. i think one of the reasons the mosquito was never used more is because its made from a plywood balsa sandwich when most aircraft at the time were all metal or mostly metal construction. This made politicians etc think that it was a outdated useless aicraft at first! The mosquito however more than proved its worth i read that a low level daylight mosquito raid bombed berlin on the day of the nazi parties 10th anniversary and managed to disrupt the rally! essentially to me it does seem like a better idea than going in a lanc since going in lower, accuracy would be improved however it seems t
  22. an Academy F14D the hasegawa D is expensive and without weapons and the revell D isnt accurate and has raised panel lines. If academy made a kit with recessed panel lines and put as many weapons as there are in there A kit its a total winner for everyone!
  23. well would have to say a B-52H by academy or hasegawa!!! i mean it would save ppl a heck of a lot of work messing on with update sets etc!
