  1. im getting the hasegawa tiger squadron kit and suddenly thought it would be cool to build it as an F4J(UK). Other than the different engines which came as spares with the other FG2 kit i got (xt 900 56 squadron) what changes do i need to make and are there any conversion kits?
  2. gotta agree!!! im glad we got such a good plane!!!!
  3. well spurred on mainly by doctorpeppers great work on his tomcatter 100 ive worked a bit harder to try and get this bird completed!
  4. well spurred on mainly by doctorpeppers great work on his tomcatter 100 ive worked a bit harder to try and get this bird completed!
  5. Colours i used were: Humbrol 166 underside, 165 wings and nose (the darker grey) and 167 for the body etc. Hope that helps
  6. From hannants you can now get the FG1 and FG2 hasegawa 1/48 kits for £13.99 instead of £21.99! im really pretty gutted now since i just finished a hase phantom which i had bought for £21.99. Also i may contribute to this built later on cos i did enjoy building the phantom ive just completed looks awesome and theres only 1 thing better than one awesome thing - more of them!
  7. ive got bombs already and aint paying 27 pounds just for the racks!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. i have my three completed cats hung up looking like they are flying CAP together even though one is F14D vf-124, another vf-31 F14A and the other is F14D from vf-31 (tomcatter 105)! Once i get my hase F14D done tho in tomcatter 100 i'll put it alongside 105! my fav photo of tomcatter 105 is this one taken from the few that i used to submit with my article for this GB.
  9. ok could any1 give me the size of the phoenix rack bomb conversion part circled here? Im after its dimensions etc in 1/48 scale if any1 could give me them thanks in advance!
  10. definetly in favour of this extension the fact of it is that my hase tomcat is pretty much painted/weathered and needs a few touch ups etc and decals applied. Probly doesnt seem like much but ive been busy with University work. Basically this way i dont have to rush loads to get the kit done and can get it built to the best of my ability!
  11. ok so for my tomcatter 100 im doing it as would have been during OIF. So firstly any1 got any idea what was a common loadout? I was thinking 2 JDAMS but ive since seen loadouts with 1 JDAM and 1 LGB how common was this? secondly if i did only use JDAMS do i still need a targeting pod? finally if i did model it as carrying a targeting pod do i need a phoenix missile on the opposite station and during OIF were sidewinders carried on the shoulder stations or was this a rarity?
  12. well i agree for sure the way university has worked out i have 3 exams plus one assignment due before june 1st which doesnt leave me much time to get my hase cat done!
  13. i'll second that my lightning below was painted in 27002 polished aluminium and looks amazing i think, however when i first tried to use varnish it dissolved it. I think this is due to the fact that i brush painted it plus i maybe didnt leave the paint that many days after it dried.
  14. i know my grandad used tin foil combined with a special microscale product (i think) that helped soften the stuff and reduce creases i'll ask when i next see him and tell u what he used!
  15. Looking good man btw im building my tomcatter 100 as in flight are you doing the same?
  16. Very right thank you for correcting me about the dates laser guided bombs were dropped by F14's it was really a guestimation on my part i knew it was 1997/1998 ish. Im also very surprised about hearing that tomcats can carry 4 LGB's as i have never seen any pics of this! It may be something do with this both of the Delta tomcats ive modelled are of VF-31. makes me wonder tho why they werent when all squadrons listed below were.
  17. Ok few things to point out and these are if you wish to make your model a little more accurate. Ok firstly the decals revell give you are old the gunfighters were disbanded in 1994 and were a training squadron so its unlikely that they dropped any bombs. Also i dont believe any Tomcat dropped laser guided bombs before around 1998 when the idea was tested. Further as far as i know tomcats only carry laser guided bombs on the front two phoenix pallets meaning they can only carry 2 laser guided bombs at any time. Sorry to be a pain the kit looks cool n everything but just thought id let you know
  18. ive got the yellowhamer OIF heroes and the decals uve got seem to match them only thing is mission markings. Also your decals have the black inside of the tails whereas my decals dont have it even tho its on the real bird and im having to paint it in Considering ppl pay for these decals they could have at least given ppl the inside tail detail.
  19. Hello Boys!!!!, I`m back. did any1 else get a mental pic of the scene from independance day where that was said??? hes flying a bloody hornet too why there were not any f14s in that i'll never know! good work on the kit btw!
  20. As said above none are easy. Ive now had the experience of building 2 revell kits (self inflicted pain i know) 1 academy F14A and iam currently finishing my hase F14D basically into the painting etc. Revell kits definetly take the most work to get into a good looking kit. Big nasty seam where two halves of kit join near intakes and the nose on the kit is badly mishapen. Academy went together well and was more detailed however you still get the seam in the same place as on the revell. With the hase kits you dont get the seam as they cleverly put the nose/body join on a panel line. The way it
  21. glad to see another tomcat in flight! i think mine and another are the only current entries that are displayed in flight.
