Hi Everyone. I am building the Hasegawa 1/48 RF-4B. (all black retirement scheme) Would anyone have any profiles or pictures of a top view? The only pictures I could find on the net were side views. I am just wondering what colour was the walkway areas (over the intakes and wing) and was there much stencilling on the airframe? Thanks in advance Gary :thumbsup:/>

Hello again, This is Eduards Boxing of the Heller 1/48 Mirage 2000N. Finished with Humbrol paint, the topside camo is free hand airbrushed. Oh the drop tank, in case you are wondering, I found a pic of a desert mirage on the internet with what looked like a repair section or repainted section of the drop tank and decided to copy it….. The markings are for Red Flag exercise 2004. All the best Gary

Hello again, Im calling these two Phinished… There are a few bits I think I could have done a bit better but on the whole Im happy with them. So what I have is 2x F-4S. 1 built out of the box with no additional details. The second using an Aires cockpit, D Mould intakes and Afterburner decals. Paints used were Humbrol and XtraColor. Airbrush used was a cheap “Fastmover tools†suction airbrush with a medium nozzle fitted. I used Hobby tec washes and Xtracolor matt varnish for the finish. Here are a few pics… I will add some more pics to the finished section later

I just realised I won a prize as well... :woo:/> :woot.gif:/> More shopping, Thanks very much! :D/> :D/>

Hi All, Thanks for the encouragement, The painting on the ferris scheme wasn't too bad. I used good ole Mk1 eyeball to line up the tape, compared to the drawings on the decal sheet. I kept the edge of the tape slightly above the surface in order to get a straight but soft edge. Its getting close to the finish ok but still a good bit to do, and as if that is not enough I have misplaced the inner weapons pylons! :doh:/> I have plenty of spares so I will just dig into them... At last, Despite the fantastic weather we are getting here I managed to get a bit more done on my F-4s. Decals

Hello, Another small update, Did a little bit more on both of the S’s today, A little bit of tidying and weathering on the tailplanes, Also started to work on the rear… How the Ferris bird looks at the mo, I spent the rest of my time masking weapons and working on the pylons. I have some more tidy up to do and then its gloss coat for both the Phantoms, looking forward to getting some decals on these two.. Gary

Hello again, Another small update, Working on the tail section this time, I started with a lot of masking, I made a mistake with a previous phantom by not masking enough and ended up with silver flecks on the tail, not this time!! I saw a few pics on line and also in a few of my books that show a very distinct pattern on the tail planes so I decided to try replicate this, a bit of masking again!... Masking off, a bit of clean up left to do but it is going nicely.. First bit of colour on the rear... I could only spare about 20-30 min before work today so that was all I co

Cheers Guys!, Thanks for the replies, All I can say is take your time and plenty of breaks when doing that camo scheme! The Tamiya kit is a joy to build, Thanks again Gary

Hi Ron, If defiantly made it to a class "F" mishap!!. I solved that problem by wrapping a small bit of ptfe tape around the neck of the colour cup. Thankfully my original airbrush has also come back from Badger ...like new again!, Great service.. Anyway, I managed to get a bit of time to get some work done on my pair of Phantoms, I sprayed the basic colour schemes for both. I used Humbrol and Xtracolour paints. There are a few touch ups to do but the pictures show how they are progressing. Strange the colours seem very washed out on the TPS Phantom, must have been the flash on

At Last…! A chance purchase of a cheap airbrush meant I could get painting. My old one is still away with badger. I am using Humbrol and Xtracolor paints. Anyway enough waffle on with the pics, First up the cockpit was sprayed black, what was left in the brush was used for a bit of pre shading.. The underside of the TPS one was sprayed first and then the mid colour on the Ferris Phantom Top colours going on the TPS Phantom And a start to the Ferris topside… I had a bit of a mishap with painting, the colour cup fell out of the airbrush onto both kits!! I cleaned up with Kit

Hi, Can anybody help? I am looking for a set of Decals to include Spang tail codes. I would like to build F-4G 69-7210. I was lucky enough to sit in this aircraft at an airshow in Shannon in 1990. Would any body know of a set available? Many thanks Gary

Well my airbrush is boxed up and winging its way to Badger... All I could do was get the U/C and underwing stores prepped.. All the undercarriage bits are in the zip lock bag Well I suppose its a break for a few weeks until my airbrush gets back to me... Thanks for looking Gary
-
Hi Gianni, Yes I was hoping to start the painting this week. Unfortunalty my Airbrush didnt agree. :deadhorse1:/>/> I suspect the teflon needle valve has failed and have had to send it back to Badger for repair. The airbrush was pulsing when I tried to use it. I spent my model time cleaning up the undercarraige and weapons, :tumble:/>/> no pics yet... Thanks for looking, Gary

Hello everybody, A small update, I tried to improve the look of the forward intakes (Air conditioning Intakes) A gentle scraping widened the openings, a bit hard to see in the pic but it looked better to me. Should be more noticeable when it gets some paint. Thosoe giant Swann Morton scalpels are a bit of a bugger to use !! :P/> Canopies fitted. I used Kristal Klear to avoid any damage to the clear bits. The forward sections had to be sanded and polished to remove the sprue attachment point. Common enough thing with the Hase. Phantoms... Starting on weapons loadout and underca

Hello again, Some more work on my pair of Rhinos, Wings attached to both kits. No real issues, actually the D mould intake set fitted better than the Hasegawa kit parts! My wing braces were fitted to both. I cut one to fit around the moulded pylon sway braces. (still a bit of filling and sanding on this one !) The other was fitted as one piece, Being made of plastic card a small bit of glue meant it stuck firmly. Next up canopies were masked, I am using both the one piece and open canopies. I finished by starting the flightcrew, I moved the airline to the side… And the 2

Oh what a sweet Friday.... I won a prize in the draw.. YES! :yahoo:/> , Now I just have to buy some more kits, :whistle:/> any excuse eh!! :banana:/> An even Happier Gary!

Anyway a little more progress on the Phantom duo, Got both sets of wings together, replaced the strakes with the longer type correct for the F-4S and sanded down the "bump" to a more accurate profile.. sanding still underway in that pic! Pylon sway praces removed from one set of wings, a little over zealous with the sander ment a bit of filler to be used. I plan on using the aftermarket pylons but will see how that goes. A shot to compare kit and Aires cockpit... Didn't use that much filler around the cockpit after all...! ;)/> Still needs paint to finish off but you get the i

Hi tobiK, Unfortunately, I don't have the Academy F-4B... Yet. I've not done re scribing before so this may be a first for me on this build. I was really impressed with the D mold intake set, an excellent fit and big improvement over the Hase kit. You are very right about fitting the cockpit set, lots of test fit and sanding. This is my second time using and aftermarket cockpit, first was an F-4N that seemed to fit a bit easier though! :rolleyes:/>/> Best of luck with your Viper, Its a nice kit, I finished one in an aggressor scheme recently, OOB though.. :whistle:/>/> Gary
