  1. That is so very cool and a great introduction to scifi modeling. Clearly your not new to building though. I really like this. Well done! Look forward to seeing more scifi from you in the future
  2. thanks guys. This is on hold for a short time while I finish off another project (I needed a break from the SD to be honest) However, when I pick this up again in a few weeks, it should see some paint, so at least there will be something different to styrene chips and resin bits to look at
  3. I had the camera out today for other things and decided today is a good a day as any to take a couple of update shots. I'm not as far along as I would have liked but I had the spare time. I'm almost finished the top. I just have to finish the edging and then the top will be considered done. I test fitted the bridge to the body to make sure I could. There are definitely going to be fitting issues but nothing some super glue won't take care of. Looks like I'll also have to add some more details once the body has been glued together to help tie in the areas better. This adds to the ever comp
  4. Thanks Janne! I'm almost done with the top side surface detailing and will be posting an update soon. Im still undecided about painting first then adding the FO or the other way around. Currently leaning towards paint first.
  5. Thanks very much for the appreciation guys. I have managed to get a fair bit done over the past few days but won't be posting an update until I have finished the detailing on the whole top surface. Mind you, there's not much left to do but it'll be a few weeks until I'm done. Thankyou both though for posting your thoughts. Im glad to hear someone's wife is impressed with the work im doing! Wish I had the same level of support
  6. thanks Ray. The picture you would like would be pretty easy to take as its just strip styrene and some ship kit parts. I will take a "group shot" of the work bench which will show you all the bits and pieces
  7. So, I have managed to get most of the starboard sidewalls and roof parts detailing done with only 3 left to go. Then it'll be time to blend in the walls to the surface and add some other stuff around - then the last part of the top side surface detailing will be over. I'm still deciding if I will paint first then add the fiber or vice versa. I'm leaning toward paint first because I just think it'd be too hard to be able to trim off fibers without damaging the paint work but shuddering at time it'll take to do it like that. No pain no gain right? Anyway, here's some pics of where I am at cu
  8. Looks awesome Ray! I like that 3 tier grey scheme much more than solid.
  9. hi guys quick update. I've finished with the top side of the nose section for now and won't be adding any more surface detail to it until it's joined to the rear section. I'll be moving on the the main superstructure sidewalls and finish those off plus the roof sections and then add the last of the surface detail to the right side. Sorry for worktop pictures, but I couldn't be bothered getting out the photo tent tonight - too much effort It's current rest place: Well, that's it for now but as always, thanks for stopping
  10. That's certainly a unique ship. Could be detrimental if it got shot in the engine though. The lighting is simple but really effective. Not over bright or out of scale. Great work all round!
  11. cool subject Ray! I like what you've done with it so far mate. Looks really good One day I should bust out my Gunship version of this bird. I will enjoy watching you build yours in the mean time 🙂 Got a scheme in mind?
  12. Hi everyone - happy new year! Hope we all managed to get some bench time in. I know I didn't So I have not long gotten back from holidays and decided it was high time I expended some time into this project. To be honest, I spent a lot of time thinking about this build and the things I could add and by the end of it, was busting to start back onto it. Also, finally, I have settled on the base layout and how it's going to be displayed. It'll look pretty wicked if I get it right. BTW, does anyone know of a way to bend brass tube to an angle of 90 degrees whilst still maintaining
  13. So it's finished then? If so, where are more pics?? 😍
  14. I've pondered getting this kit but can't swallow the price tag that comes with it. Its great to see one being built though and I will be tuning in for sure Hows the fit looking?
  15. Well, I'm just glad to hear your in good health! Its awesome to see you back here again and I look forward to seeing your next build! As for the SD, im yet to go back to it but I shall be returning to it soon
  16. Jesse!!! Mate, great to see you back on the forums again! You've been missed Hope your well? What have you been up to for the past 4 years or so?
  17. Welcome to the forums Greg, and thank you very much for your kind post! I really appreciate it I look forward to seeing some of your work here soon Thanks Brad! Haven't seen you around much lately? Hope all is well I must admit, I am also looking forward to seeing the end of this but I have a very long way to go yet! Does make it sound like it'll be never ending but rest assured, I'll get there I haven't touched it since the last update as I've been working on another project that I'm doing as a gift. Once it's done, I will be coming back
  18. I'll be honest here and say it looks like the original falcon. Aside from the dish, i can't see anything different to the ROTJ falcon but then Im not an expert on these things. It looks like the original falcon to me. In TLJ the guns got knocked about pretty bad on the salty planet but after that I wouldn't know the difference between that one and the falcon in ROTJ .
  19. I really like this Bill - that's a really great job on the cockpit - or cabin, or what ever its supposed to be called. The control consoles look awesome and well worth the time and care you took getting the decals on. They also look prime for lighting - almost seems to go with out saying though. I also like the worn look of the floor too It's pretty big - hope you have room or it! Looking forward to seeing more of this rather interesting subject
  20. Hi again Last update before a short tools down period. I've not really spent as much time on the bench as I thought I would but did still manage some decent progress The front end is as busy as I want it now. Just need to start filling out areas around the hull. I won't go to crazy as I want to try keep to the grand scale and immensity of the ship. At the same time, most of this detail will likely be obscured by the paint. Well, that's it for now but feel
  21. I'm re-posting the last update as it screwed up the page somehow. I have been working away on this since this was last updated, but no pics yet sorry as there hasn't been enough done worth while taking pics of yet I've started work on the "nose" as you'll see. I steered clear of cutting it off and dropping it like others before me. Fair enough if I was replicating the studio build but it's not necessary here. I realised I had cut out the backing board where the front roof sits thinking there would be something sitting in front of it - there is, but it's not what I thought. A quick shee
  22. removing the content and will repost as the page has screwed up.
  23. The clear parts are supposed to be done like that for better light dispersion and to let the light out of the windows after paint, you can use a drill bit and do a small turn to lift the paint off, but to me, that seems to be a waste of time and you may as well not do it in clear to start with. Im sure there would be an easier way to go with that. Hope to see your Venator build one day. I made a start on my second one a couple of years ago but stopped after halfway through detailing the longer of the 2 engine tubes. I must pick it up again and finish it but my current build is consuming
  24. Thanks very much Ken for both the kind posts and the video. I saw a built one on Britmodeller and thought it looks nice and is well built there is a lot of light leakage at the base of the superstructure. I'm sure if its an oversight on the builder's behalf or an overall issue with the kit. Looking at it, I'm almost prepared to state its a kit issue but without having one I can't be sure. Bandai have done a fantastic job on the details though but its too small for my tastes
  25. Yeah I saw a video of a guy who's started the unlit one and its a lot smaller than I was expecting. Nice details on it though which is to be expected Hope to see a WIP from you soon then! 🙂
