  1. Hi all The title pretty much says it all. I need some help on fitting the BRU's to my Academy F-111 pylons - it's an Echo model btw. I'm not entirely sure which is the front of the unit. Also there doesn't appear to be any correlation with the base of the pylon & the mounting lugs on top of the unit. Any advice/ideas? TiA Shaun
  2. Hey guys Have done what I thought was a pretty good search for a/m bits, but I've come up empty. What would be the best way to go regards Israeli F-15D cockpits? I have IsraDecals sheet which gives me lots of options on different timeframes, so some advice on the cockpit would be helpful. If I do the most recent option on the sheet - a Baz Meshopar - could I get away with either: popping a Ra'am pit in there or spruicing up the kit plastic with some Eduard p/e for the 'E' + seats? Or are there any other options to consider...? TIA
  3. This is a great photo to highlight the significant colour contrast between the wings & the fabric covered ailerons. As modellers we always strive for subtlety with our models, but there is nothing subtle about the fading of those ailerons...
  4. A lot will probably come down to back pocket, I should think. I have 2 of the older Academy 'C' kits which will become RAAF a/c + their 'E' which will be a USAF UH ODS bird. IIRC neither kit set me back much more than AUD35/40 odd. Now here in Australia, current retail for the HB kit is around AUD90, though I know it can be had for less online - though not a whole lot less once post is factored in. And then you still have to buy bits to correct it. So for me, the Academy is a better starter. Yes...like the HB kit it has problems. But some of those I'm prepared to look past, because I know I fi
  5. Hi Jim I knew you would pop along at some point. Thanks for the pics - some good close-up of exhaust patina on the metal to replcate. Here is a link to the page which shows the OzMods burners: http://www.ozmods-kits.com/ozmods-conversions-upgrades-148 In reality, the surface detail on the ehaust petals part is more pronounced than the photo shows, which was the concerning matter for me. Every photo I've seen of -111 exhausts don't show anywhere near the exaggeration of this part like the OzMods set. Maybe a set of G-Factor exhausts is on the cards...
  6. Hi all I recently purchased a set of OzMods' F-111 exhausts to complete one of my builds, mainly because they looked to be a more complete set than the Scaledown version. Opening the pack, that does appear the case (although it doesn't offer you the option of closed/open burner like the Scaledown set), however I noticed that the actual exhaust can is vastly different in appearance than what I have seen in photos of the jets. Photos seem to show the petals on the cans to be almost flush with each other rather than overlapping. OzMods' cans have significant ridges running the length of the can
  7. By some weird force of the modelling gods I seem to be acquiring decals for Aggressor squadrons. I don't have any for the F-15 - yet. Before I grab some though, I want to know which kit would be the best to go for. Given the quality & general accuracy of Revell's 'E', is it entirely plausible to use one of those, leave off the CFT's, add the necessary p/e & cockpit & Bob's your father's brother?
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I should've been more thorough in my OP, I just didn't want you all to have to read a short story before I got to my point. Love the Revell kit. I have 2 of them - 1 will be a USAF bird from the most recent conflict, the other will be a RAAF WIF. The Academy OEF boxing I got for about AUD20/25 + post. Knowing the shortcomings of the kit, I decided that would be a donor of parts (much nicer pods) & ordnance for the 2 Revell kits, since I really didn't want to do another USAF a/c. I've always wanted a Ra'am. I paid full ticket for it & happy to live with t
  9. Recently I thought I would revisit Academy's offerings of this jet, picking up the OEF boxing cheaply (which has given me a really nice set of ordnance) & then the Israeli Ra'am version. Comparing the intake trunking & engine fans with the Revell kits highlights a glaring size differential between the 2. Anticipating their might be issues, I grabbed a hold of Steel Beach's adhesive FOD covers & am curious to know which kit I should be applying these to. Basically, which manufacturer produces a more authentically sized intake/fan setup?
  10. Hi all I just recently added Hasegawa's newer boxing of the Hornet (the kit with the 'A' tails) to my older 'C' bocing. Both kits include 2 different types of exhausts - one set with overlapping petals & the other with straight petals. I have been trying to find some info as to when the change occurred, without success. Now I have the 'A' tail sprue addition, I can finish off my OEF RAAF bird, but I also have some decals to do a USMC ODS 'A' Hornet (which means I will have to get another of the newer boxings - "sigh"), so I want to make sure I am fitting the right exhaust to the right bir
  11. It certainly does mate. Thanks
  12. Thanks gents. Also would like to know what colour the pylons are - black or dark green - as I have read conflicting info. And if green, which of the 2?
  13. Hi all About to start on an UH ODS F-11E & am curious about the racks for the ordnance. I know the pig used BRU's to carry its iron, but how close are these to the MER's in the Academy kit? TIA
  14. Where are the Beaufighter gurus? I have seen 2 different versions of a/m Beau exhausts around - long & short. Ultracast do both whilst it would seem QB only do 1. Does anyone have any definitive info in regards which type of exhaust was fitted to which Mk? TIA
