  1. I've had great results with good old Elmer's Wood Glue.
  2. Don't forget the lead foil to use as straps. I use the foil off wine bottles. It's a win-win situation.
  3. Okay, near the begining of this thread I saw a couple questions about Talon paints. I've used them back to back against ALCLAD and the answer to the question of "are they that good" is...sort of. They require several light applications because they go on spotty as if the model has mold release compound on it. They are also very fragile and masking with damp newspaper is best. However, the results are just as good as ALCLAD and if Talon polishing powders are used they shine up great and using the differeent pigments you can get some cool results. As for finding them, just go to Hawkeye Hobbi
  4. Because God is a kind, loving, benevolent SOB with a sick sense of humor. BTW, the brunette in image 22 did a "spread" in Playboy and with heals on I swear she's 6" 4".
  5. Thanks, I'm making small stabs at finishing the 109. I started working on the Italeri 1/72 XB-70...aaaaaaa yeh, fit is well...shat! Here's a link where my pictures from the MotoGP race, http://s1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb370/grenadier37/Indy%202011/
  6. I'm in. I'll do one of the 31 flavors of Phantoms. Possibly a 1/48 Monogram F-4J or Hasegawa F-4B.
  7. Grrrrrrrrrrr! I kept painting after I posted the pics and now the spinner in red AND white, and a little bit of chipping was added. So Now I need to wash the decal glue off it, seal it, weather it and post images in the completed thread. But...this is MotoGP weekend at Indy, so I'm off to the races.
  8. That is too cool for school! The decals came from Hobby Craft Canada?
  9. More progress. I used the kit (HobbyCraft) decals and they didn't lay down very well. I took these right after I sprayed the spinner. I still need to do some light weathering and chipping, then she's done.
  10. What a great looking Phantom! You can't have too many Phantoms kits IMO. Damn, my hyphen is in the wrong spot...F-4F of course. stupid fingers.
  11. Thanks for the kind words. When It's finished I'll post better (larger) pictures. Yep, my kit's got the same issues with the tail. My version of a fix is to remove some of the mounting tab so the stabs can be slid forward. They'll wind up being a little off, but I don't think anyone wil notice.
  12. More progress on the 109C. Painted with Vallejo Air colors, my first time to use the brand. I like them quite a bit.
  13. I scanned this thread, so my apologies if I'm saying what others have said. Which is simply that other companies are producing kits of similar or better quality and detail (e.g. Revell AG, Airfix and Wing Nut Wings) for less money than those marketed by the Japanese and Chinese manufacturers. Why do the Japanese and Chinese charge so much for their kits and why are so many of us willing to pay over inflated prices? So for example, if Revell AG produced a Phantom of similar quality to the Tamiya Phantoms at half the price, would you buy it? So then why buy the Trumpeter Typhoon for $130.00 wh
  14. Thanks for the advice. I hadn't done more to the tail than to put the stabs in the slots to see if they fit. I was going to paint it this week so I'll have to take a closer look at it.
  15. Here's a couple of images of the 109 I'm doing for the sharkmouth build,

  17. 1/48 Hobby Craft. Mclents, thanks for stealing my thunder. BTW, the 109C and 109D are the same airframe, different engine (fuel injection vs. carbs/Jumo 210GA vs. 210D), i.e. no external differences. Although I had planned on using the same decal sheet, I will now be using the kit decals. I started it over the weekend and will be posting pictures soon.
  18. Recruiters and the VFW aren't specifically involved in the Wounded Warriors Project, for more info follow thw link below. http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/component/option,com_frontpage/Itemid,840/
  19. Weeeeelllllll, one of the club's I'm involved in (Houston Armor Club, we have a blog btw) is currently participating in a donation drive sponsored by Wounded Warriors. Our club vice-president has a contact who will take kits and supplies to Fort Sam Houston Medical Center in San Antonio and deliver them to the troops convalescencing there. So, if this group is interested, I can get specifics and put the powers-that-be in contact with the powers-that-be.
  20. I've needed an excuse to build the 109, so that's what I'll do. I'm in a 109 phase anyway; I'm currently building the Hasegawa 1/32 109E with Verliden "update" set. It's ready for paint. Dave, the Tiffy is super cool and I can't wait to the finished product. I don't like to double-up, so to speak, on group builds. Not to mention I kind of suck so I doubt you'll have any competition from me. If I finish the 109 with time to spare I might also do a F-5 (recce P-38) that I have sharkmouth decals for.
  21. CURSES, foiled again... Bf-110, check. Tex Hill's P-51, check. Phantom, check check check. Tiffy...check. Hellcat, CHECK! Aha! Bf-109C!
  22. I noted an alarming lack of shark mouth Typhoons in this thread... I'll throw my hat in the ring, but I'm not sure if it'll be 1/72, 1/48 or 1/32. I'll probably do the Hasegawa 1/48 kit with Aveiology decals.
  23. I just finished reading this thread and have to say this is one cool event. Has anyone considered donating the kits left in the box at the end of the next go around to Wounded Warriors, then sending it around again?
  24. Hey Chuck! Excuse me if I "say" something someone else has said. Mt attention span is about...wait...what...oh, right, contests. I agree with Milo and the other guys. Volunteer to judge at the next show and you'll learn tons. Also, judges award or take away "point" based on your representation of the model. For example, at the last show I went to a guy won a silver with a Spitfire that had a seam line across the top of the engine cowling highlighted as if it was supposed to be there (they aren't). That's because models are supposed to be judged on the quality of the build, not the quality/accu
