  2. Hey guys.. Hope you can shed some light on a question I'm having. As we know.. the P-51 came from the fabrics with their wings puttied up and painted with silver lacquer to enhance the laminar flow of it's wings to give better airflow/speed. However.. someone I know told me that later in the war, the lacquer was removed from the wings because apparently the P-51 would fly faster without this lacquer, and that extra speed was needed to fly against the 262.. But um... didn't the lacquer had a double purpose to smooth out the bondo work, AND protect the bondo from peeling off easily? I'm a

Well, the gray P-47 (making emphasis, that my friend claims there is only ONE picture of a gray MAF P-47) is not a Manila based Thunderbolt, but a thunderbolt flying in Mexico This is the picture in question, in my opinion it's nearly impossible to tell if it's gray, or just BMF http://www.avalanchepress.com/images/Image505m.jpg
