  1. that's right. The gun was removed during the refit. also, she was sunk on 7 Dec. 1944, exactly 3 years after the action at Pearl Harbor. The Ward had been hit by Japanese aircraft and was sunk by gunfire from the USS O'Brien. Ironically, the captain of the O'Brien had been the captain of the Ward on that morning in 1941.
  2. Its located on the State Capitol grounds in St Paul. You can see the capitol building in the background of the first picture.
  3. Just thought I'd put out these pictures for anyone that's interested. http://lh5.ggpht.com/_C4muUVaW5c4/STNLRQfo...d%20Pic%205.jpg http://lh6.ggpht.com/_C4muUVaW5c4/STLGaSVy...d%20Pic%203.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_C4muUVaW5c4/STLGbiif..._1417%20048.JPG http://lh6.ggpht.com/_C4muUVaW5c4/STLGbOYr...d%20Pic%204.jpg

  5. Just found out they carted off our SR-71 from the Minnesota Air National guard Museum! http://www.mnangmuseum.org/Exhibits/aircraft/ a-12.htm Its going to be stuck on a post in the ground at CIA headquarters on private display not open to the public. At the Guard Museum you could walk up to it, touch it, look in the cockpit. What a frick'n loss. Okay, I feel a little better now. .. sniff, sniff
  6. I would go with the soft lead pencil too. It works like a charm. Use a little patience and light pressure so the pencil doesn't skip outside the lines. Besides the great advice contained in these forums, there is an absolutely fantastic article on the Accurate Miniatures site. avenger online build
  7. the link to Large scale planes didn't work for me. Here's the url http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=11171 Its a topic in their forums under tips, techniquesand photography. BTW LSP is, in my opinion, another great modeling site. Reminds me a lot of ARC. .. hmmmm.... :D
  8. Thanks guys for all the replies. It does seem that painting first would only work with a good fit right out of the box. Some of the older kits would make it impossible. I'm doing the Monogram B-26 right now and I might just paint the wings first and see what happens. I did want to mention a couple things. One thing I learned here, was that you can get a great joint if you glue the top half of the wing to the fusselage first, rather than gluing the wing halves together then to the fusselage. I found this article in the forums at Large Scale PlanesTruing joints Seems like a great idea f
  9. I've always been a wings on then paint guy, but I have seen quite a few builds on larger models where the wings go on after painting, decals and weathering. Case in point, the recent article in Model Airplane International about the Hass 1/32 Ju-87. How do you do that? I can see it is much easier to paint parts separately, but what about sanding the joint, glue line, gaps. . .etc  It would seem to me that one slip with the glue and you could wreck your whole model. Any thoughts?
  10. Okay, this may be the completely un-informed response, but have you tried buffing it? I've often had a similar hazing with MM metalizers and just recently with Alclad. For me buffing with a soft cotton cloth (old sock) gets rid of it right away.
