  1. I've missplaced three sets of zimmerit tools over the years, and finally just gave up! I like the Cavalier and ATAK resin, but seems to be hard to get ahold of. I also have several sets of Eduard pe zimmerit, but have kinda avoided using it. Some guys like to use thinned out Squadron green putty. Yet I cannot say that I like the way that Dragon has done their zimmerit on their tank kits. To me it looks kinda heavy handed (too deep). The two tanks I've looked at that had zimmerit on them were maybe 9mm or 10mm deep and very course looking. That figures out to about .011" deep. The Eduard stuff
  2. The bad part of the storms went about a hundred-twenty kilometers south of me. We got a little bit of lightening, and some pretty stiff winds for a couple days. Hail was spotty here and there, and we didn't get enough to even matter much. Yet a little northeast of me saw baseball sized hail (ours was about 8mm). The town of Borden and Henryville got hit really hard, and I'm kinda worried about a friend in Borden. This is the guy who builds Olympic class target rifles, and is a real gem to know. The tornado that went thru Borden looked to be 1300 meters wide at the minimum, and heard it was cla
  3. I may go ahead and order in the Mustang kit to further make my stash out of controll! gary
  4. I believe the correct wording would be a simple WOW!!! This build just looks real all they way around. gary
  5. that is correct, but there was at least one mark that had an even smaller cowl that was a little longer yet. Might have been the one that they only made 20 of. gary
  6. lets see, generic bodies, generic suspensions, and pretty much generic engines to boot. What with NASCAR forcing the racer to use their parts that they controll, you have another form of handicap racing (they've been known to admit this in the past). Makes for a kinda boring form of racing in my book. gary
  7. anybody notice that Z/M is running a sale on their 1/32 Mustang at $80? gary
  8. last night I went thru a whole stack of old magazines looking for a very beat up copy of Air Classics #175 that featured the Lysander. I came upon a Wings issue that featured the Hudson, and read it last night. Now I think it's time for Revell to give is a Hudson! I read in there that there were some Hudsons built with a smaller cowl (diameter), and saw at least one photo of one using a prop that looks very similar to the one in the Revell kit! gary
  9. ATAK and Cavalier make a thin resin zimmerit for armor. These packages are kit specific, but are very nice. I'm not familure with the kit number you posted, but you can figure that unless it's a Tiger I initial production, it will have zimmerit. Pretty much all IV's thru late H will have it. Most all Panthers except for some late G's will also have zimmerit (Not sure about the very early D's). Most King Tigers, JagedPanthers, and JagedTigers as well. Stugg's are a mixed bag. Most all F's, G's, and some earlier ones did. Best thing is to do a little research on the subject your modeling, and go
  10. I've seen German arty in Panzer Grey and desert tan. I think it just depends on the era and location. Still the grey would be good to go most always. gary
  11. I have the older Tamiya and the Dragon kits, and the Dragon is by far the best of the two. The Tamiya kit has serious issues with the road wheels and drive sprockets (can't remember about the idler). With the Dragon you can use their wheels and tracks without any problems. Also the quad fifty is much better with the Dragon kit with it's finer detail. You can get aftermarket stuff to fix the Tamiya kit, but why bother when everything's in the Dragon box. gary
  12. the Air Force used P80's and F84's as well as F51's and B26's for close air support. The B26 was the best of the group. The Skyraider was fairly new and would be adopted by the Air Force at a later date when they couldn't get anything better gary
  13. I did some thinking about that awhile back, and came to a couple conclusions: * you already had the Corsair, F51, and the Skyraider playing the part of fighterbomber anyway. The Skyraider was the new kid on the block, and could carry a lot more stuff than the other two plus the P47. Then whatever the Skyraider couldn't do, the B26 Invader could easilly take up the slack. The Corsair was probably a better platform than the Mustang was, and the P47 and the Corsair would have been near equales. But the Skyraider was built for that job from the getgo. Otherwise we'd have been using Mustangs in Vi
  14. Thanks, I can see myself doing that MIG21! gary
  15. I love all three of these photos! Specially the MIG25's or are they 31's? The last MIG 21 is really neat. Can anyone here tell me the specific model MIG 21 that is? I'd like to build one. gary
  16. funny you brought this up, as I've kinda wondered why one decale sheet is so much "greener" than the other in the Revell kit. Could they have also used different colors? gary
  17. thought a little too much about the next Tamiya 1/32 project, and here's my thoughts: * FW 190A series would seem the most logical. Gets are getting dated, and there's a ready made market. * BF109 G10-G14 with all the parts to build an "AS", and the other two options with a tall and short tail. * JU87 Stuka with a lot of options would sell like cold beer in 110 degree heat * the Hawker Tempest or a Typhoon are also good candidates, but the German stuff will sell better * The Corsair is another good one to build off of, and if I were thinking American I'd be looking here * how about a goo
  18. Oh well, no new Intruder in 1/48th or even 1/72 gary
  19. I had heard that it was a very good movie, but it's not showing in my neck of the woods yet. gary
  20. what I ment was that they took an actual chain of events and did their best to make it as factual as they could, and also keeping the theme as neutral as possible. I liked the way they brought in the NVA commander without somekind of a slant. He was simply doing his job as best he could like Hal Moore was doing as well. Hamberger Hill looked like somebody had reconned the place before filming. Not perfect of course but very close. I can't say a lot about the events leading upto the assualt on 927, but from what I gather they too are accurate upto a certain point. gary
  21. PM me and I'll tell you what the error was (some here might want to call it political, but trust me it's not). I will tell you that the folks in the original cast and not the movie thought is was pretty funny! gary
  22. most war movies are filmed to prove a point of one kind or another. Das Boot is probably one of the very best ever, and stays fairly neutral. I that Battle Of Britian is a good movie, but it dosn't take a 12 year old kid to see the theme. Thirty Seconds Over Tokoyo is another good one, but it had an agenda; still like the other two they kept most of their opinions to themselves. I liked Saving Private Ryan, and The Band Of Brothers. Looked as if they did a nice job without much of a planned agenda. Vietnam movies in general are a joke, and even the actual film footage is even worse! The Mel Gi
  23. I'd like to have the kit, but my number one complaint is that it has the late composite wings. I'd like to have an earlier version, and lets hope they respond! gary
  24. I hate to tell you this, but I found the ME262 kit marked down 75% in a sale at the LHS. My Harrier came in a trade with a fellow ARC person, and I'm as happy as a kid in the candy store! The MIG 29 is really not my cup of tea, but seems to be a nice kit. I think I'd rather had the MIG 23 or the SU 25. Now I would love to have the Tamiya 1/32 series of of high grade aircraft, but right now they've pretty much priced themselves out of my checking account. Seems like the price tags are soaring, and my income is falling at about the rate. gary
  25. I was going to buy the Tamiya Spitfire MK. VIII yesterday afternoon at my LHS for a tick over $100. Good buy in my eyes, but still more money that I wanted to spend. Had it been a MK. V or a MK.IX I'd have bought it. These kits and the Mustang and Zero are known to be very nice kits that are pretty much dead on. I have three big Trumpeter kits in my stash, and the ME 262 and Harrier look fantastic, but also fall into that price groove. The Greatwall FW189's sell for about $60 in my area. I kinda want to do one and maybe both. I have no idea how the new kit will compair with the FW's, as they a
