  1. That's really a big fish on the flyrod! I've seen steel head and pike bigger than that, but they were using special stuff. I usually hook them by accident! Almost always on a wooly bugger (say a size eight or six). Seems strange, but I've hooked them on a hairs ear! They don't have good vision, so you have to put the bug right in front of the . Carp seem to love mulberries, and you can by flies that look like a cluster of them. I've tried them, and get a lot of takes, but don't have enough pataints to wait them out for the run. I live in an area not known for trout, but there are some co
  2. I honestly think I'll see the day when a common carp will be considered a true game fish. A ten pound carp is like hooking a 14lb. black bass. They are very hard on rods, and are best at sight fishing (very accurate casting in a must). The first carp I ever caught was with a spinning rod. I and my three sons went fishing and I headed out on a sand bar. Saw a flash. Made the cast and bam! Now I'm small mouth bass fishing and very well geared up for it. He went strait into the back water pulling line off the reel against the drag (keep in mind I've caught two 7lb. smallies). I knew I had the st
  3. I have three Revell Spitfire IXc's, and was pretty happy with that, but now kinda want more. Rather seen them do a MK, Vb or Vc, but that's OK. Now we're only speaking of a 19" wing span! Not nearly as big as i'd have thought. Looking at the CAD images, it almost looks like a ZM kit! I well suspect that Edgar is digging his way back north to see this one gary
  4. for those that don't know, I retired a few months after turning 61. Well I was planning on clearing out in about 18 months; as I did not want to go out of the place on a stretcher. The last ten years I worked like a dream, and actually looked forward in going to work. A normal day was like I was in there for three or four hours. People I worked for really treated me too well. I was offered a golden handshake with a serious bonus ($35K). I owed about $8K on my mortgage and another four on the car. The pension was very liberal, and the big up front asked me to stay a little longer to gain anothe
  5. I just looked thru all the posts and many were interesting, but I see the lack of: Lancaster A6 Intruder (may have been the most accurate bomber in world during it's time a good old F100d Japanese Zero! Beech Traveler The ancient C47/DC-3 is still in use ME262 was a giant leap in aerial combat a P38 of course The P39 kinda made idiots out of a lot of so called experts and lastly the P47 in any version and I find it odd that nobody claimed the F15 (still flying quite well). An FW190F could get things done well. The BF109K4 is
  6. I often said that 1/24 scale was just too big for me, now things have changed! I'm buying one. glt
  7. I'll go for the A10c kit in a big way. The old A.M. Dauntless is one of those kits that has stood well against the test of time. (has anybody done a better Dauntless?). The Wildcat caught my eyes right away! I hope they got the intercoolers right! Suspect the B25 to be another release of the A.M. tooling, and that's a pretty good kit. gary
  8. If your thinking Marines out of Chu Lai (they also flew out of DaNang), be careful of your time frame and mission. They really didn't go much north of the DMZ, but ran the slot next to it daily. Snakeyes didn't show up in I-Corp till the very end of Tet in 68 (perhaps DaNang had some?). F4's were big on napalm; as in really big! Dropping iron bombs was not their greatest forte, but still they got by. The A4 was better at bombing, but the A6 was supreme here. They used a lot of rocket pods, and I simply don't remember if they used bigger air to ground rockets. The Phantom leaving Chu Lai or DaN
  9. OK, I'll give you that without a second thought. Yet the black F117 is still black. Why did it not change color? Now I don't care if the SR71 is painted day glow pink. The first time I saw the U2 and the A12 together, I was with my brother and he made the very dark blue comment. My brother inlaw did the samething. We had a rather involved discussion over this at my house one night, and I gave my opinion as to maybe why. Simply went upstairs and brought down two tuxedos. One was a well respected black, and the other was a Burberry midnight blue. Went outside with them and hit them with a flashl
  10. don't tell anybody that in Ohio! When you first see them, they do look black till your eyes adjust. Black, when the light hits it turns to a dark grey color, but midnight blue goes strait to black. Nothing new here as they've known this for a hundred years gary
  11. I'm quoting prices in America. A Chinese kit in Japan is way over priced. Just like the other imported kits are. I don't buy kits overseas but with one exception (Vector Resin). I don't think you have ever had an AMK kit cause they are a light medium grey (slightly darker than Revell). I've owned several glt
  12. they had the shop in Southport. Very mismanaged, but the actual employees were pretty nice. The owners had little interest in modeling. I miss Tom Metzger!!!!! Rumor has it that we will see a new shop down south gary
  13. If your doing a Wild Weasel air frame, I know the F105 did not have the stick in the rear. I have a buddy I see three or four times a year, and he's flown in the lone surviving F100f. I'll ask him about that. gary
  14. having seen the U2, A12, and SR71 up close I noticed right off the bat that they were not black. A very dark midnight blue in color. Yet the f117 was black. Also the paint on the first three was a matte finish and almost looked fuzzy. As for the silver SR71, there are photos of it. I wonder who will be the first to make an S71 (are there photos?)? Ben Rich speaks of it in his book Skunkworks gary
  15. I just never could get into the shape, but the F107 is a good starter. I always the the X3 was way out there. Yet on the other end of the scale one has the Lysander to think about! I always thought the DO335 most interesting. Just for plain looks and nothing else the old B47 and the B58 probably top my list gary
  16. you will note right away that Peter Jackson has never denied the bill paying deal. When you sign on a contract with a company to make parts for you, you usually pay a third of the cost upfront to get the ball rolling. Then somewhere around the 50% mark you'll inspect what's done, and pay another third. On completion they pay the rest off. Kinda standard thru out the machine tool world everywhere. Your short the last payment, and you loose everything. To be exact you miss any of the payments and you loose. Large contracts often will spell out four to six payments, but a mold for this thing is s
  17. AMK can be had for about $55, and try to touch a Tamiya kit for less than a C note. Tot get the better Tamiya kit your looking north of a $100, and you got all that for $55 from the start glt
  18. been an F111a for me, but still rather seen a new F100. As for the F14, I can't see the Tamiya kit being 2% better if even that. Moot point now as most F14's are beer cans now. gary
  19. that kit is junk is second rate (P39). I have the book written by the chief engineer on that air frame, and the numbers he give are pretty close to what KH did. I think they are roughly sixty thousandths short when checked on a Shadowgraph. I did not check the width, so that might be another story. The other kit is off by close to a quarter of an inch, and it's shape is pure imagination gary
  20. they begged the folks at the on LHS in Indy to carry AMK kits (I've seen at least a half dozen of them myself), and was refused! When I got my first Mig31, the store manager asked me to bring it in for a look see. I did, and he was simply stunned, and told her to get them! While we were looking it over, two others inquired about buying the kit, and were also refused. Glad to see their store in Southport gone, so maybe we can get another Tom Metzger clone again! gary
  21. I see them for $67 everywhere that is selling them (Mig31). I'll probably pick up another Mig this winter (right after I buy another fly rod). The F14 airframe has never did anything for me, but if I were to jump on that bandwagon it would be the AMK kit. They should have done an F111 or F100d. gary
  22. call Kittyhawk whatever you want, but I want two more P39's and two Kingfishers. I don't see anybody else jumping on that bandwagon gary
  23. only one comment: grounds for sleeping in the garage for the next 36 months gary P.S. WNW has lost the case before they even got started. A failure to pay your bills will often result in the loss of items involved. Pretty much a standard issue in every country out there. Add to this the fact that WNW may now be in trouble for extortion. glt
