    Hellcat Cat Launch

Here is the beginning side. Launched across hangar deck. USS Yorktown on trials off Norfolk VA.
  2. For the most part, bombs under 500 kg were a dark gray.
  3. Another case of "if it is on the internet, it must be true". Bogus Big Time. Many have been published years ago in a variety of places. I believe some are even USN photographs. Want to buy a bridge to Brooklyn? I'm asking you on the internet so I must be able to sell it.
  4. Hotels can set a time after which a reservation may not be cancelled. Depending on the hotel and rate, anywhere from two weeks before to 24 hours before. The hotel then has the option to put the charge in when cancellation my not occur, or wait until you fail to show, or if you show, at the end of your stay.
  5. But how about dose wings? Rivet top or not? Still looks like a P-51 to me.
  6. Curtiss screwed up and carried black past the change date. But, correct with insignia Blue on the P-40E. Until October 1940 the U.S. ARMY was to be in black when applied to a light color on the underside. October 22, 1940 marks the revision in the color such that Blue 47 (Insignia Blue) was to be used.
  7. Wing finish from Building the P-51 Mustang by Michael O'Leary At page 103: "The first 40% of the wing was shot with zinc chromate primer. This was followed by enough coats of Acme Gray Surfacer No. 53N5 to cover all irregularities. Skin butt joints were then filled with Acme Red Vellunite glazing putty No. 58485. The entire surface was then sanded down and sprayed with one coat of camouflage enamel. When camouflage was deleted, the forward portion of the wing (and sometimes the entire wing) was sprayed with aluminum."
  8. Gordon Kwan of Sprue Brothers, over on HS, seemed to confirm that the retail will be $120. The Dragon USA sale offering is being sold at nearly what Sprue will pay for the kit. So act quickly or sell your first born, if you have one. Or you can buy about nine R-M P-61s. http://www.network54.com/Forum/149674/message/1310574603/Here%27s+the+price
  9. Are those the old Danger Boy sets that Mike West at Lone Star bought and then sold? Didn't know to whom he sold the molds.
  10. It was not that the wings were just primed and painted. The wings received a coating of a putty that was smoothed and sanded, and the panel joins were filled and smoothed. Then the wing was painted in camouflage or aluminum paint on un-camouflaged aircraft.
  11. It is the old Gavia kit. Found this old build / review. Seems a Finnish version is a no go. http://www.rollmodels.net/nreviews/airplanes/lizzie/lizzie.php
  12. I've found that with FF4 and FF5 the browser seems to get bloated and slows down. I have to close and reopen frequently. Interestingly, it is noted in FF's Q&As. They try to pack in too much.
  13. As noted, the problem is that you have created nothing. You have just copied something that was created by another person. Decals themselves can be a copyright violation unless the artwork copied (i.e. nose art) is not copyrighted or in public domain. Any changes in the artwork have to be more than a fingernail. For example, if you did a decal of the Red Bull markings on an airplane and sold them, all without the permission of the owner of Red Bull, that would be a copyright violation and one would be subject to a substantial legal suit.
  14. A little less guessing helps. The interior was most likely a Bronze Green, the USN cockpit color at the time and as used by Bell on the early P-39s. The Airabonita was not a a true yellow wings aircraft. The one prototype did not come out until February 1941. It was painted up for the USN as a show piece. The Navy took it on for testing and took off all the fancy paint. Cockpit of the XFL-1 (no copyright attributed)

    RAF mustang III

Perhaps you could post those that indicate unpainted. I don't seem to see any. In te one below the brightness is because the flap is in full shadow.

Just like camouflaged P-47s, the inside edge of the flap [where it went under the wing] was painted the upper surface colors. The problem in all those pictures is that the flippen flap was covered in black and white stripes. Don't want no shiny parts compromising the camouflage
  17. But, but , but ... I thought he was the US's friend in the world wide anti-Islamic terrorists struggle. And his son's like Mariah Carey. So why do we dislike him now? The only reason I can think of is that he is a "sick f.." in the mold of Saddam and Sons.
  18. Jeez... It is an Arabic name that is written in the Arabic language and alphabet. Everything else is a bastardization. Spell as you wish... Kahdaffy
  19. guess we'll have to park out butts here or, heaven forbid, build a model!
  20. Let's get real and see whether price fixing really deters purchasing the product. Modelers have been slobbering all over PCM's 1/32 offerings. The kits are made by Sword in the Czech republic. Now, how many of you actually purchased the PCM Hurricane or Focke Wulf knowing you could not get it cheaper than what Ken Lawrence said you had to pay for it? Come on admit it, confession is good for the soul and bad for all the rantings about price fixing when the kit is the only game in town. What ticks me off is Mr. Lawrence's greed and need to control. He wants to directly sell his kits at a f
  21. This is called vertical price fixing. A manufacturer makes an agreement with the distributor and retailer that the product will be sold at a set price. If it is not, then the retailer don't get no more. LHS have been trying to put pressure on some model manufacturers not to sell product to discounters, or fix the price. LHS cannot compete on price, margins are too slim, so they want to make it not-competitive by forcing everyone to sell a kit at the same price. Mr. Lawrence wants to protect his bottom line, because places like Sprue probably put pressure on him to give better discount o
