Will you guys be making the retractable service tower? http://www.ninfinger.org/models/vault/atlas-mercury%20photo.jpg http://www.capcomespace.net/dossiers/espace_US/mercury/installations/LC14%20KSC-63-MA9-135.jpg http://www.capcomespace.net/dossiers/espace_US/mercury/installations/LC14%20ServTwr.jpg

You need to extend the MLP further aft. It looks too short in length to me.
Any tips for a 1/72 scale version? :)

I used Model Master's Chrome Yellow for my ET.
The lighter tones are using Testor's flat yellow. This is if you wish to show the ET fresh from the factory or during rollout to the pad.

I hope you make the styrene kit available for us to get Yasa. :)
-
That is very helpful as all my orbiters have this problem on keeping the doors shut.
-
I just glued the windows on as is and put a paper thin styrene strip over it to make the windows more accurate. http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/358/d/0/challenger_windows_by_onigojirakaiju-d4k3j3x.jpg
This works as the windows put on as is are sunk into their frames. The styrene strip fills this in so they are even like on the real orbiter.

This looks great man. :)

Do you mean the large white box on the corner of Side 2/3? Then that is not a generator. It is a Mobile Portable Purge Unit or MPPU for short. The MPPU has 3 purge lines coming from it that are connected to three ports on Side 2 of the MLP.
The 3 lines correspond to forward, mid and aft purge circuits on the orbiter. When on the ground the orbiter is always connected to ground provided purge, either regular air or when flowing cryogens during fuel cell servicing and loading the External Tank, gaseous nitrogen (GN2) to reduce the fire hazard.
The only times the orbiter is off purge is during transfers from the OPF/VAB and during the mission. As soon as it lands, the orbiter is hooked up to ground purge and cooling.
I hope this helps!
Yep, that box. http://i1096.photobucket.com/albums/g334/maly149/100_3696.jpg
It's not there when it's ready to launch. Only rollout ops.

The small generator seen in the last photo that has the four vents on the top is only there for rollout, not during launch. Though, I have no idea what the generator is used for during rollout.

Awesome job. :)
Any tips for the grating?

Thanks guys, this will work. :)

Here is a good reference for you. http://www.gandoza.com/ProductDetail.aspx?id=417

Any tips for a 1/72 scale styrene plastic version?

What color would work to get that color seen in the photo? It looks like a light brown, tan color on the side of the aft fuselage.
Discovery also has this light brownish tint as seen in the Columbia photo. http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/medium/2012-1711-m.jpg
Atlantis too http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/medium/2012-1730-m.jpg
Endeavour barely has any tint on it's fuselage at all. http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/large/2011-6426.jpg

Awesome.:)
I plan to make a 1/72 scale LC-39 using the EDU-Craft Diversions paper kits. :) I plan it to be an all styrene version when finished. Well my last try many years ago was using wood, and it fell apart. Maybe this time using styrene will work.

I am stuck on how to get this slightly tan/ brown tint to the aft fuselage on my new Columbia model. Any tips? http://finexpeditions.com/images/SpaceShuttleColumbia.JPG

Are those 1/72 scale kits available on his site? I'd buy them as templates for a styrene version.
-
Well it will fit 1/144 models of the Soyuz rocket no matter who built the kit. :)
Say will you be making the Soyuz rail car transporter? http://images.spaceref.com/news/2003/20030424_rollout_02.jpg http://www.spacefacts.de/graph/drawing/drawings2/soyuz-tma-15_rollout.jpg

What is the servo pack listed on your site that you plan to release? It's for the Soyuz LC.
Will there be kits to go with the Real Space Model's rocket kits? Energia-Buran 1/144, and other rockets they have? Ares 1 and Ares V?
I hope someday there will be 1/72 scale LC kits for the Monogram stack, Mach 2 Soyuz, and other kits of similar scale. RSM as I mentioned above also has Delta rockets in that scale, Redstone and Atlas Mercury, Gemini titan, and others. http://realspacemodels.com/html/catalog.htm 1/144

Will you be using tile decals or scribbing/ carving the tiles onto the model? I used the method I mentioned as it gives a more realistic texture to the tile locations on the orbiter. I will say the belly tiles are the most time consuming to work with.
By the way, checkout my STS-107 stack. :)
On the Monogram ET, the cable tray that runs along the LH2 half is not accurate ,nor matches the cable tray for the LO2 tank. You will need some styrene strip for the new cable tray.

There is a cool daylight photo of STS-61-B after rollout to the pad.
NASA photo 108-KSC-85P-258. That photo. It is seen in black and white in Dennis R. Jenkin's Space shuttle: The first 100 missions on page 273.
-
I found a photo that shows why Revell chose the shape of their SMEs. Look at page 248 of Dennis R. Jenkin's book Space Shuttle: The first 100 missions. SSMS 0003 has slimmer bell shape than the actual design that has been used since STS-1.

My new photos of Columbia done, save for a decal or two.

On the orbiter's wings. I used Evergreen K-2 strips for the edges of the elevon hinge panels. This photo is what gave me that idea. http://www.collectspace.com/images/news-031510a/012.jpg

Well the ET on the model looks more like the SLWET. 61B still had the LWET which had a darker foam color to it. http://www.axmpaperspacescalemodels.com/images/stack2a.gif And this photo of STS-61C you can see the intertank is darker in color than the rest of the tank. http://www.retrospaceimages.com/images/zSS024_STS-61C%20small.jpg

What are those yellowish resin blocks on the front end of the ascent stage? I've not seen those before.
