  1. I see. That may work. *shrugs* Well there are many changes to be done, but IMO it's better than the Revell model. Will your model include the OBSS?
  2. For the triangle section of tiles on the OMS pods aft end. What is the thickness of styrene you used? I'm planning to do this for my entire fleet as none have this tile pattern on the OMS pods.
  3. I tried to make the ET look brand new as in that photo. Great model dude. :)
  4. Have you begun painting the ET yet? This photo of Columbia is what made me chose the colors I did for my models. http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/large/02pd0048.jpg The chrome yellow does look very close to the look in this photo.
  5. Put whatever you decide as the payload. Even a fictional payload if you wish. :) Such as from Farscape http://www.farscapecaps.com/101/images/premiere_034.jpg http://www.farscapecaps.com/101/images/premiere_035.jpg This small vehicle is the same size as the X-38.
  6. I used model Masters Chrome yellow for the darker color of the tank and Testor's Flat Yellow for the lighter colors. My other models are seen on here in this section of the forum. How do I get this tone on the aft end of Columbia? http://images.ksc.nasa.gov/photos/2002/medium/KSC-02PD-1762.jpg My otehr orbiters i painted to look brand new. Columbia is the only one I want to show her age. More reference photos. http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/medium/02pd0191-m.jpg http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/medium/03pd0075-m.jpg http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/medium
  7. I'm building this kit now. The orbiter is a kit I got years ago. The ET and SRBs are from a new kit I got months back. http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/342/3/6/columbia__s_tank_by_onigojirakaiju-d4ijh7e.jpg
  8. How will you get the payload bay doors on? The kit had stubs for this. Too bad the stubs for the hinges stick out when the doors close. Also as I discovered, the doors don't shut very well. The front end will shut fine, but the back, not really, one door is popped open slightly.
  9. Will you be adding the mid deck to this model? Also for the forward windows will there be an inner set just behind the kit's? Well in photos you can see this clearly and even the inner frame for the crew module. For example http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/48/STS-131_RPM_Discovery%27s_crew_cabin.jpg http://img.ibtimes.com/www/data/images/full/2011/07/21/135034-a-technician-works-in-the-crew-cabin-of-the-space-shuttle-atlantis-aft.jpg
  10. Awesome model. :) The MLP needs some work though.
  11. Will you be adding tiles to the model? I prefer scribbing the tiles on instead of decals. For example my model of Challenger http://th03.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2011/331/c/c/challenger_orbiter_by_onigojirakaiju-d4hgaiq.jpg
  12. A new photo of the orbiter taken yesterday. http://th03.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2011/331/c/c/challenger_orbiter_by_onigojirakaiju-d4hgaiq.jpg
  13. I found this diagram of the Ares 1/ current MLP that is at 1/100 scale. How much more scaled up should it be to equal 1/72 scale? http://images.spaceref.com/news/2008/ares.drift.label.lrg.jpg
  14. A new photo of the model in progress. http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/323/3/6/challenger_model_by_onigojirakaiju-d4gnzme.jpg
  15. More photos of my STS-133 stack. http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/316/c/0/sts_133etstrut_by_onigojirakaiju-d4fyhj6.jpg http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/316/2/d/sts_133_et_modelback_by_onigojirakaiju-d4fyhfv.jpg http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/323/8/7/sts_133_model_4_by_onigojirakaiju-d4gnzpl.jpg
  16. Here is my photo of the finished kit. http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/312/c/2/ov_103_stack_complete_by_onigojirakaiju-d4fj9zu.jpg I'll get more photos of this new kit when I can. Discovery is next to the 1/400 scale Godzilla kit.
  17. The AFRSI is the blankets that cover most of the orbiter's surface. Many use surgical tape for this detail. Say any tips on carving out the ET doors on the belly of the orbiter? I'm drawing their outline on my model of Challenger now, but am unsure of how to cut them out of the model without damaging it with my dremil kit.
  18. Awesome photos George. :) Say for painting the tiles, as I'm scribing mine into the model. What would work? Too bad there are no tile decals anymore to buy or else I'd order some for all my models. The only time decals missing on your model are those on the forward end of the OMS pods.
  19. Well I cast the entire SRB nozzle. I'll get a pic of the mold, which is split open to get the kit part out.
  20. I'm trying to make a copy of the SRB nozzle from one of my shuttle kits for my Ares 1 model. I still have the rubber mold, but each time I try to pour the resin, it won't go all the way through the mold.
  21. Here is something on the new kit. http://www.cybermodeler.net/special/images/ihe11_54.jpg Hey guys, any idea when the official release date of this kit will be?
  22. A built it yourself kit is what I'd prefer. When might this kit be released? New shuttle stack? Is there a link to that?
  23. Here is a pic I saw on anotehr forum of the new to be released kit. http://www.dragon-models.com/catalog/wings/new/50388/50388p0.jpg Looking at the photo, it looks like a bigger version of the 1/96 Saturn V with the inaccurate stringer detail. with all of them being the same size. I can fix the S-IC/S-2 interstage and bottom of the S-2 stringers by molding them from the stringer pattern off the ET of the Monogram shuttle 1/72 kit. http://www.siriusrocketry.com/Photos/detailfull33.jpg This photo aside from the real thing has good detail reference. http://www.hq.nasa.gov/office/pao/History/al
  24. I'd love to get this kit. :) My guess is it would be around that of the recently re-re-released Monogram shuttle Stack kit. $100.00 give or take. Glenn Johnson of real Space Models built his own 1/72 scale Saturn V from scratch and is seen on the Ninfinger site http://www.ninfinger.org/models/html_pix/shtlsatv.html Then there is this person's model http://cs.finescale.com/FSMCS/media/p/1369788.aspx
