  1. So I'm venturing for the 1st time in creating custom decals. I have the design complete as well as the proper decal paper, bonder, etc. The main question I have is a regular 3 color (CMY) printer cartridge sufficient or should I spring for the photo printer cartridge. I've done some searching and can't find the difference between the two except the amount of page yield and of course the price. Anyone who has some experience with making their own decals, I'd really appreciate your feedback and some of the results that you have had. If it helps, I'm using a Lexmark x4650 Inkjet printer.
  2. You will have to contact the US Distributor, Model Rectifier Corporation. 1-732-225-2100. 80 NEWFIELD AVENUE, EDISON, NJ 08837, U.S.A
  3. Darren - you nailed it dead center. +1
  4. I was a squad leader on the QRF at Al-Asad in 2004 and we were staged near the flight line and got to see a lot of these birds up close and you have done a fantastic job of bringing this Marine Corps workhorse to life. Very well done indeed. Semper Fi!
  5. Picture here +1 This sounds like an interesting topic for a current events build. From the picture in the link, it looks like 6 AIM-120s and 2 drop tanks.
  6. Thanks for the feedback but what I was suggesting was to use only one protective layer to protect the base color so that if i mess up on the mottling, it would be a fairly simple thing to "erase" and try again as opposed to respraying base color to cover any mistakes thus leading to paint build up if multiple attempts are required.
  7. Excellent info and advice! Thanks so much - now I'm looking forward to getting a satisfactory Luftwaffe camo pattern without fear of paint buildup or having to settle for "good enough" - although it never is. Thanks again!
  8. Thanks for the feedback. It seems that I read somewhere that acrylics (I'm using Model Master and Tamiya) will not adhere to an enamel coat - the whole oil and water analogy. Using Future as a clear coat would defeat the purpose since it is acrylic as well and would come off if I tried to remove the camo paint layer on top of it - or am I mistaken?
  9. I got to thinking after about 3 attempts to do the stringy mottling on my 48 scale FW-190 A8 (Red 19, JG 300)and not entirely pleased with the results. I primarily use acrylic paint. Would it be feasible to paint the base color with acrylic and then seal that with a glossy lacquer clear coat and then attempt the mottling pattern with acrylic paint - so that if you are not pleased with the results, you can simply take it off with a bit of thinner and try again without the build up of paint you get by covering again with the base color and potentially losing engraved surface detail? Has anyone t
  10. I'm sure this has happened to someone before. I used poster tac to fill and mask the landing gear bays on my 1/48 Tamiya BF-109E4. Now that the RLM 76 is sprayed and dry, I went to remove the poster tac and there is chewed bubblegum like residue clinging to the surface details. Is there any trick to getting it to come up without ruining the paint underneath? Many thanks in advance
  11. On first look, I would think that is a LANTIRN navigation/targeting pod on the centerline.
  12. I could be wrong, but I believe the only way to post images is by adding a link. You can upload your photos to a free online photo album such as Flickr or Picassa (what I use) and from there it is pretty straightforward. Just copy the URL from your online photo and paste into the Forum. Welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forums!
  13. I will be following this closely...
  14. The tomcat is painted and decaled - will post pics tonight
  15. Sorry its been a while - wife, work and whatnot gets in the way. Updates are fuselage halves together, Steel Beach replacement nosecone attached and sanded, whole thing is primed with Mr Surfacer 1200 and panel lines preshaded. I rescribed the detail on the forward fuselage, something I have never tried before but pretty happy with the results. I used the old dymo tape and scriber method that I read on here and it worked like a charm. Sub assemblies completed and painted, along with the Vert Stabs and wings which still need the gears cut off. Hopefully applying the first coat of medium gra
  16. After a LOT of shopping around, I buy almost exclusively from scalehobbyist. They have great prices and selection and a very easy to navigate site. Quick shipping and fantastic customer service. Can't say enough about em!
  17. Thanks Wolfgun for the link and to Darren for the article. Outstanding stuff there. Will update with more pictures very soon...
  18. OOB cockpits, Verlinden Seats all painted and awaiting a wash. Intake trunks painted white Now trying to decide if I want to cut the gears off of the wings or attempt to follow the instructions...
  19. In the middle of building two 1/48 tomcats, Revell and Academy, and for the life of me cannot find the windscreen and canopy pieces. If anyone has any extras or could point me in the right direction to purchase additional, many thanks. BTW, I have contacted Revell about replacement pieces and they don't have any in stock.
  20. I have built the revellogram Hind twice and it builds up into a pretty nice representation of the Hind. Sure it has some shortcomings as far as accuracy is concerned, but the average person would never notice and it looks great on the shelf. It is definately one of the kits that gets a "wow" factor from friends because it just looks mean. I do wish there were other options for this bird in 1/48 because the trumpy 1/35 is HUGE and 1/72 just dosent do it justice. As far as colors, the Soviets and other operators used a huge range and possibilities are plenty, with some really interesting schemes
