  1. Does anyone know what the closest match for the light green sage color of the MB GRU-7A (F-14B) seat cushions would be? (Preferably acrylic) Tamiya Cockpit Green XF-71 looks close, but I cant find it anywhere in Atlanta. Does MM Acryl make anything comparable? If I need to mix, what colors and ratios please. Thanks in advance!
  2. Darren, thanks for the hot tip - if I find it I will be sure to post it on here. I did order the Steel Beach corrected nose for the Academy bird. I've also got some Verlinden seats that I'm going to put in there. Otherwise it OOB with Superscale Decals for both. BTW - your bird looks fantastic!
  3. So the wife is going out of town to see her family for a week, which leaves me some rare free time to build something. I am going to make the most of it by building two Tomcats side by side. I have read a lot of back and forth about which is the better 1/48 cat for the price, Academy or Revell, so I picked up both (Not trying to tackle Hasegawas in 1 week). I will be posting progress here so critiques and comments are welcome (without starting a war).
  4. STRIP IT!!!! Not really, just playing Devil's advocate. It looks good, I would be proud.
  5. Well, that depends. Enamel paints will require to use enamel thinnner, there are several different things you can use. Acrylic paints can be thinned with water. Most will say to use distilled water, but I have used it straight from the tap with no issues. Also, acrylics are nontoxic and do not have a funky smell - not the case with enamel. You should know that acrylics dry much faster though, so it is really up to you to decide what type you want to use. As far as thinning ratios - this also differs. If you are airbrushing, I would start out at 50/50 and build up several light coats until you
  6. I think it looks great. I also think that it is very disappointing that some individuals would immediately criticize the accuracy of your hard work. Some people just can't see the forest through the trees. If you had fun building it and are happy with the outcome, then display it proudly in your home just as you have shared it with us. To those of you that have AMS to such a degree that you cannot appreciate what your fellow modeller has made, then go build your own, and make it as accurate as you can, I'll look forward to seeing it on here. Well done Phil
  7. Impressive start! I will be following this closely
  8. I almost exclusively use http://www.scalehobbyist.com, at least to buy kits. They have a nearly comprehensive collection, most of it is almost always in stock. The prices are unbeatable, and by that, I mean that I use them as the measuring stick against other online sites. If I see a good price on a kit, I will check it against scalehobbyist, and they have been less EVERY time. The shipping is fast, the customer service is great and the simplest, most intuitive search functions to find exactly what you are looking for every time. Can't say enough about 'em. Well done!
  9. I'm not sure about the website, I surely did not see any on there, but I have definitely seen the Tamiya F-16 Aggressor, A-10 and P-51D "Blue Nose" on the store shelves regularly. Also some good Academy models in additional to the normal smattering of Revell offerings.
  10. Outstanding! Christmas is coming early for me - Thanks!
  11. Great looking bird! Love the loadout, loaded for bear! Get Some!
  12. Hi Eric, I love this paint scheme and hope to do one soon. One question about the paint though. I have noticed on other models that the black in the camo scheme just doesn't quite seem to match the photos of the real thing. Yours however looks dead on. Maybe its just me but it seems more like a very dark midnight blue. Did you use a standard flat black, or something else?
  13. The arctic aggressor is one of the "coolest" paint schemes on the Viper. An excellent deal indeed - the HL near my house has it for $60.
  14. Looking really good! The Tammy Skyraider was the first model I built when I got back into the hobby as an adult and didn't know SQUAT about modeling. And it still looks nice. It is simply a spectacular kit and a marvelous workhorse of an aircraft. I look forward to doing many more, knowing what I know now. Your's looks fantastic so far, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
  15. Thats a great diagram - Thanks for posting!
  16. While doing some research recently, I came across some pictures of what looked like the fuselage and wings of a ME-262, but it had a V tail and the engines were blended into the fuselage. Clearly this was an experimental aircraft that never made it into the war. But it sure looks mean! Any information on this aircraft would be appreciated and if anyone makes a 1/48 representation I would love to know where to pick mine up!
  17. Where can I find the AMT "U" version? Is it OOP? Any idea on the retail price?
  18. Actually I'm really not concerned if it is a "D" or an "N" model, I just like the bubbletop Thunderbolts and the Revell is priced half of the Tamiya. I just wanted to see if anyone had built this Revell offering and if it can hold it's own against the Tamiya. (Especially with a little aftermarket TLC.) I have not seen the Revell kit inside the box or seen a built one in person, but I'm told that it IS an excellent kit.
  19. It looks like it has nicely engraved panel lines. If i threw in an aftermarket cockpit, seat and added some photoetch, it would probably still come in cheaper or at least comprable to the Tamiya, and I'll bet you couldn't tell the difference!
  20. Sorry! Yes I am referring to the 1/48 scale. I know the Revell is the "N' and Tamiya's is the "D" , but just comparing bubbletop P-47's, I'd like to know how the Revell stacks up.
  21. I saw this kit the other day in the hobby shop and inquired about, having never seen it before. I was told that it is an excellent kit and it is certainly attractively priced. Is this a new kit? Has anyone on here built it? How does it compare to the venerable Tamiya Thunderbolt?
  22. Sounds sweet! Where did you get the decals from?
  23. Great pics - looks like it was perfect weather for the airshow. I'm jealous!
  24. Does anyone know if anybody produces a weapons/conversion set to turn a 1/72 C-130 into the AC-130 gunship? It seems like there has to be some resin sets out there. I know that Italeri did a limited run on a dedicated gunship version but it was extremely expensive and very hard to find.
  25. BTW, the decal set I picked up for super cheap on ebay are AWESOME! It is Superscale's "Big Dick" flown by Lt Richard Hewitt of the 72 Fighter Group 1944. Saw them and bought immediately - Thought it would make a humorous and interesting piece in my small but growing collection.
