Airframe Guy started following Special Hobby AH-1S
-
Just finished this one up. Love these little Special Hobby AH-1.

Thanks Floyd!

I am currently building the Special Hobby AH-1G. What color zinc chromate, yellow or green, is the correct one to use? I have seen pictures with yellow, with green, and even with both. Anyone know which one is best to use? thanks

The M blade is completely different. The cuff is similar but the rest is based off of the S-92 blade. the wider cord of the blade increases the lift and changes the dynamic performance of the blade. This changes how the airframe and it’s systems operate. The M was designed around the blade and its performance. The L and the V are not capable of operating with this blade.

I was at Mainz-Finthen 88-91. 8th ID had 3 Cobra units. 2/4 AVN and 3/4 AVN at Mainz-Finthen at 3/7 CAV at Colman.

The scoop on the bottom helps cooling by directing "Ram Air" up into the exhaust scoop. By the way, 16th CAB got their aircraft up graded in the fall of 2013 at JBLM before they deployed (along with a few other post production mods). I was part of the mod team that did the install.

Here are few pictures of one of the 407s that are being done for Iraq (my company also did some of these). The Bell version that I saw at Heli-Expo is almost identical.

Opps, I ment the OH-58F. Tan on top, Aircraft green on the bottom.
-
This is the concept for the OH-58D.

I’m the Maintenance Manager at the facility where the modification is taking place. The OH-58F, CASUP, is currently underway at a facility near Huntsville AL. The big reason the Army has decided to up-grade (really rebuild) D models into F models is financial. First, they already own all of the aircraft, so there is no R&D, testing, or procurement cost on a completely new aircraft (very, very costly). Second, the F model upgrades are being performed by a government owned government operated facility (thru a direct contract) which reduces the cost a lot when compared to having a priv

Got to deliver the first HH-60U to the Airforce today. A very sweet aircraft that is going to replace the HH-60G.
