  1. December 9th is the day that USAir becomes nothing but a bad memory. Of course all of the miserable employees and dirty aircraft will still be around but it's still a step in the right direction.

USAir? It's been US Airways for the last 15 years. If you're going to insult the people that work there at least get the name right.
  2. even though the panels maintain a fairly polished look, there are still variations in the panel color. if i used a different alchlad color, even a polished one, over the chrome base, i would loose some of the shine. thanks to a post i found all in spanish by diego quijano (i used google to translate it), i masked off different panels and used very very light mists of semi gloss and matt varnish and this is what i got.

    Very nice!

How did you mask the high shine Alclad II? I ask because I masked some high shine areas on a recent build and the Tamiya masking tape lifted the Polished Aluminum paint just ever so slightly...just enough to leave a "shadow" where the tape was.

  3. Its acrylic artist's paint that is intended to go onto clothing. You can get it a Michael's or Joanne's, I believe. It works good because the color is almost a perfect match for the real thing. The drawback, though, is that you have to paint it on very thick. I haven't used it on my last few builds and I'm not sure if I'll use it anymore.

Here's it is on an Academy F-15E:

  4. What I like to do on planes that have more complicated gear, like an F/A-18 for example, is to assemble the gear as much as possible and loosely attach it to the model as it dries. As it dries I'll position the model somehow so that the gear parts are drying in the correct way. I may hoist the model up in such a way so that it is the correct height off the ground when the gear is attached (but there is no weight on the gear itself) or I'll lean it up against a flat surface like a wall. I don't know if I'm explaining this very well but I hope you're getting the drift.

Then, when it comes to attaching the gear permanently I make sure that the mating surfaces are clear of paint and use Testors Liquid Cement. I just use enough glue on each attachment point to make it glossy...not too much. As it dries I make little adjustments to make sure they are symmetrical and/or the correct angle. I let it dry for 24 hours before I put any weight on the gear.

  5. All the photos of this w\a were removed(((

Is there another source to see them?

    Darn it!

I moved the folder in my Photobucket account and the URLs changed. I'll get 'em back up in the next couple of days. Sorry!

  6. You guys take it outside. I can feel the sexual tension from over here... :deadhorse1:/>

    Sorry guys.

I just thought it was funny/ironic that a comment that didn't make sense would get a reply that didn't make sense either. If I had known It was going cause that guy to go to DEFCON 1 I wouldn't have said anything.

  7. Sorry didn't realise this was a grammar class.

However I doubt your pathetic non input on the matter has helped the OP either...

Pathetic? Whoa! Lighten up Francis. And grow some thicker skin while you're at it?

(See, its confusing with the question mark.)

...(by the way that's telling you not asking you).

Yes, I knew you weren't asking me because there was no question mark. Geesh, the one time you get it right and you feel like you have to explain it?
  8. There is a patch on the alternate static port, which is large enough to go into the RVSM critical inspection area. And since there is not placards around the RVSM critical inspection area I can assume this airframe isn't RVSM qualified.

Just useless crap I notice being an inspector.

I'm not sure what you're seeing in the pics but he plane is RVSM compliant. It gets ETOPS checked almost daily and our FAA Maintenance POI seems to agree. Plus, when I walk around it to inspect it I have to check the static ports and the critical areas. So if all of our pilots, mechanics and our FAA guy don't see anything wrong then I think its safe to say there's nothing wrong.

But...I don't want this thread to turn into an RVSM debate. This is just supposed to be a helpful tool to guys who might be building a 757 model. If you would like to continue this discussion please do it, out of respect for me, via PMs and I will be happy to reply.
