Hey guys, I just finished this for a GB over in the FSM forums.
Its the 1/48 Tamiya F-16C built up as the Arkansas ANG bird depicted on the side of the box. There isn't much to say about it since it was pretty much OOB. I used Mr. Color and Alclad II paints. I did use Two Bobs decals on the AIM-9s and the AIM-120s. The weathering is just various amounts of post shading. I oil washed the hinge between the leading edge flaps and the wings but that's it. I'm moving away from panel line washes because I think they look cartoonish. That and the real planes don't have dark panel lines on them.
Anyway, here she is:
-
The vertical stabs are "taller" to make up for the increased vertical surface area of the additional cockpit station.
-
So how long from CAD to plastic?
-
If they want it to be realistic they should include a maintenance crew repairing the landing gear.
-
I like it

If you feel like you need to practice a bit you could always get some of the Hasegawa 1/200 kits. Thee are plenty of 'em on Ebay for cheap and they're good for fine tuning your masking and AB skillz. Plus there are plenty of AM decals out there.

Excellent!

Cool! Thanks for sharing.
At first I thought "Wow, that wishbone intake looks like a PITA to finish!" But then I realized that you really only need to make the first 1/3 of it seamless and neat...like the Hasegawa F-22.
-
They are regular operational F-16s.

Testors Lacquer gloss coat works fine. So does Future, although you said you weren't going to use it. Mr. Super Clear works really good, too.

Awsome work!

Interesting WIP. Thanks for sharing!

Nice build! I'm working on one now and I hope mine turns out as well.
I also noticed how the panel lines are not filled under the decals. Not a really big deal but its easy to fix when you are doing the wash like fishbone said. Food for thought for next time.
Also, there are a few "panel lines to nowhere" where it looks like they were removed during the sanding process. Again its not a big deal but it might keep you from taking 1st in a contest...if that matters to you.

Very nice work! I've got one in the stash. This is motivating me!
What color did you paint the inside of the intakes? White or Light Ghost Grey? BTW...the Gunze colors are 307 and 308. Somebody asked on page 2.

Very cool!

Mr. Super Clear. Dries quickly, rock hard and super glossy. Way better than Future IMO.

Well done!

Great work!

Thanks Keeto and Jesni

Nice! I've been thinking about picking one of these up.

Nice job! Looks great!

Thanks!Yessir, Your Super Hornet looks just fine. As far as the weathering, you probably have the panel line wash already sealed in. If not, just "dim it down" a little bit. If it is sealed in, right now, you are rounding third base. Just dirty things up a bit to go with your heavy panel line wash, and it'll be a home run!!! Either way, you're gonna score. The thing that I really, and I mean really, like about your F-18 is that it is all ready for the pilot to get in and go drop some "stuff." No panels are opened, you have a ladder in place for the pilot to hop in, just like it would be in real life. Great job. I build my models like I want to build 'em, unless it's going somewhere besides my shelf. Keep up the great work.
Tim
P.S. One thing that I see is that you might add a few RBF flags. That's a simple add-on that's up to you. Again, great job, and keep 'em coming.
I'm not gonna change it now...too much risk. Besides, this plane in real life is relatively clean so I don't want to add more weathering than I already have. The panel line thing is just my personal taste but I know alot of people think it looks good. Actually, rescribing all the lines is what the problem was. They're too wide now.
As for the RBF flags...yeah I thought about it and I might add some later. I already made some seeker head covers for the AIM-9s using Apoxie Sculpt.

I think the problem is that the paint has to travel farther to reach the inside of the intake and is therefore drying before it reaches the plastic. Do you have any flexible wet/dry 6000 or higher sandpaper? Try wet sanding down the grainy parts and see if that helps.
