Nice! I've been thinking about picking one of these up.

Nice job! Looks great!

Thanks!Yessir, Your Super Hornet looks just fine. As far as the weathering, you probably have the panel line wash already sealed in. If not, just "dim it down" a little bit. If it is sealed in, right now, you are rounding third base. Just dirty things up a bit to go with your heavy panel line wash, and it'll be a home run!!! Either way, you're gonna score. The thing that I really, and I mean really, like about your F-18 is that it is all ready for the pilot to get in and go drop some "stuff." No panels are opened, you have a ladder in place for the pilot to hop in, just like it would be in real life. Great job. I build my models like I want to build 'em, unless it's going somewhere besides my shelf. Keep up the great work.
Tim
P.S. One thing that I see is that you might add a few RBF flags. That's a simple add-on that's up to you. Again, great job, and keep 'em coming.
I'm not gonna change it now...too much risk. Besides, this plane in real life is relatively clean so I don't want to add more weathering than I already have. The panel line thing is just my personal taste but I know alot of people think it looks good. Actually, rescribing all the lines is what the problem was. They're too wide now.
As for the RBF flags...yeah I thought about it and I might add some later. I already made some seeker head covers for the AIM-9s using Apoxie Sculpt.

I think the problem is that the paint has to travel farther to reach the inside of the intake and is therefore drying before it reaches the plastic. Do you have any flexible wet/dry 6000 or higher sandpaper? Try wet sanding down the grainy parts and see if that helps.

Great job!

That's cool.

Great work!

Thanks guys!
Ha! Thanks. I built this for a Ground Attack GB in the FSM forums. It's probably not something you'd really see but I wanted this thing armed to the teeth.Loaded to HURT! I love it.

Finally the engine nozzle temporarily taped in place. Looking at pics I am suspicious that this may be too small in diameter. There is quite a large gap around it that will require some work to prevent seeing into the fuselage.
That's ok. Just wait for Aires to come out with an AM nozzle and when they make it the wrong size (like most of their other nozzles) it should fit pretty well, right?

What old thread?

That's fantastic!
Is the base supposed to be like a mirror or is it supposed to look like two planes that are breaking away from each other?

Awesome work!

Here's a few more:

Hi guys. Here's my latest build. Its the 1/48 Hasegawa F/A-18E with the Royal Maces markings (circa 2008).
Stuff I used:
- Afterburner decals
- True Details ejection seat
- GBU-24s and AGM-65 from Hasegawa weapons sets
- GBU-38s and AGM-65 rail from Wolfpack resin
- AIM-9Xs from a Tamiya F-16 kit
I rescribed all the panel lines and gave it a panel line wash although I kinda wish I hadn't cause I think the panel line wash makes it look a little unrealistic.
Anyway, hope you like it!

Thanks for sharing

TS-14 isn't the gloss black recommended by Alclad II.

If you're new to modeling I'd avoid Hasegawa Hornets and Tomcats. They are nice kits for sure but not for beginners.

Awesome! That's one to be proud of.

Great work!

Nice work! How long did the masking take on that paint job?
Can anybody spot the thumbprint?
-
Looks great! I'd suggest using a darker background, though. Its a bit hard to make out some of the detail when its all light like that.
-
That looks sharp!

Here's a tip:
Next time you get a decal sheet that has the yellow curved decals for bomb stripes scan it into your computer. Then you can print out that sheet and presto...you have a mask template that you can use to cut out your own stripes. Paint the bomb yellow first then apply the masks.
You could also use use drafters templates with the elliptical edges to get some curved masks.
Depending on how round/bulged the bombs are straight masks work just fine if cut thin...like Mk 82s for example. Those big round WWII bombs would need the curved masks.

This is a nice build. It looks great.
Since you asked I'll point out a couple of things. Please don't take this as a slam against your nice work.
1. It looks like you might have attached the outer smaller pylons on the wrong sides. They should angle outward from the plane at 4 degrees. It might just be the photo but it looks like yours are angled inwards.
2. This is minor but there should be a little bit of grey around all sides of the anti slip areas on the LEXs.
3. The two small rectangles on the left LEX should be darkened. You could fix that very easily.
4. I could be wrong about this but I think the dark grey grills on the wings where the wing fold hinges are shouldn't be there on the Growler. Hasegawa didn't catch this detail if my memory serves me correctly. I'm not 100% sure on this one, though.
5. The dark grey vents under the nose in front of the nose wheel well aren't there on the Growler. Those are purge vents for the gun gasses but since the Growler doesn't have a gun...
6. The exhaust nozzles on the Superhornets are dark on the inside. The legacy hornets are light on the inside.
These are nit-picky observations, of course.
