  1. Your basic construction skills look really good. No seam lines, paint is good, etc.

I think the interior of the exhaust looks too white. I'd recommend using pastels or powders to brush in the dirty exhaust look. Also, you can use a clear smoke color to air brush in the panel line detail. Just apply it slowly and work it up in thin coats to dirty up the lines. It is easy to do. And adding some details to the weapons would definitely make it look nicer.

But like I said already all the difficult stuff, like seam lines and painting, turned out great.

  2. Gee guys. Didn't mean to start a war. I was just suggesting since USAirways has planes in colors of former companies that one with the American stripes might look nice too.

Yeah, but they are saying that if US Airways does indeed buy American they will keep the "American" brand and keep the Ft. Worth HQ. Kinda like when America West bought US Airways they kept the US Airways name. They did that because US Airways, although the failing airline, had better name recognition than AWA, especially on the East Coast. Well, AA also has strong international name recognition so it makes sense to keep it.

So you will still see plenty of AA paint. I don't know if will be a new paint job, though, or if they'll keep the bare metal look.

  3. Just like 767Mech, "My Airline" would be affected. Reading a financial analysis about an airline taking over another hardly makes you knowledgable about the facts of what is actually happening between AMR and US Airways.

Try to be sensitive that some people on these boards may not be excited about the situation because of their employement with AMR (such as myself and 767Mech) or with US Airways. It's entirely possible that the outcome may have a negative affect on our employment status, as well.

Being a pilot for US Airways is what makes me knowledgeable about the facts. I'm guessing I do alot more reading about the subject than most people since "my airline" is considering buying "your airline" and my career stands to be drastically changed. I'm also willing to bet that our AoL guys keep me better informed than average (not USAPA, of course). And I can assure you, Aaron, that the majority of financiers and creditors are for it. Heck, some of my friends have had Doug Parker and Scott Kirby on PHX-DFW flights and spoken directly to them. Obviously, they aren't able to go into detail but I can assure that they are trying hard to make it happen.

I'm not here to be sensitive to your emotions over the issue nor do I need to be. I'm just calling it like it is. If telling you that the people with the money think the merger is a good idea, and that's insensitive to your state of mind, well I guess that's just too bad for you. Do you think dodging the facts will make it go away?

I'm simply commenting on the creditors positions...not my own. I never implied that I was "excited" about merging with AA. We are a healthy and profitable airline and you're a money losing bankrupt airline. Why would I want to merge with you? Plus, there's a reason the rest of the industry calls AA the Sky Nazis (ask any pilot). And since we're still dealing with the AWA/US merger coupled with the fact that my father was a TWA pilot (a victim of AA) I'd say I probably know more about the negative effects of mergers than you do.

  4. Wow I used to come here to talk about models, now I have to start hearing people go back and forth about what they should do with my airline. Why don't we get back to the MODELS. This is a MODEL SITE not a site to rant and rave about whom is taking over whom. So lets get back to the MODELS

First, nobody made you read this post much less reply to it. Ironic how you complain about ranting and raving when your post itself is a rant. This is a site with thousands of people and thousands of posts. To think that every single post will have to do with models is a bit out of touch. Of course there will be some various opinions and discussions.

Second, nobody is "going back and forth about what they should do" with your airline. This was a really weird claim to make. And the "my airline" statement was really weird, too.

Third, US Airways is proposing to buy your airline, not vice versa. There is no question about whom is taking over whom.

  5. The only groups who want that merger are the Unions. As an AMR stockholder I sure as hell don't for a variety of reasons and I am by no means a minority.

If they keep it up the court will give AMR exactly what they want- the option to void the union contracts.

Really?? The last time I checked Doug Parker and US Airways management wanted it. Are they unionized?

And just about every airline financial analyst I've read seems to think it would be a good idea. The consensus is that a merged US/AA would be more competitive than either of those airlines standing alone. I could give you a whole bunch of facts and figures but I don't want to type all day. To put it simply, the financial experts all seem to agree that a merger would that would create an airline that would be better off and make more money for its shareholders, including the AMR shareholders so why would you be against that?

Saying that you want AA to stay in bankruptcy so that AMR can stick it to the unions is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Don't get me wrong...I'm not a big union fan. But your logic doesn't make sense.

Not trying to be a jerk but you are in the minority.

  6. Did you get the masking tape wet while it was on the canopy? Cured Future resists water for a while but given time it will dissolve. Sometimes the masking tape will stay wet or moist for a long time...long enough to dissolve the Future.

Usually (obviously) the edges of the tape are the areas that tend to stay wet the longest and that's what appears to have happened on your canopy.

  7. Lacquer thinner isn't really a universal thinner. I'm not sure why folks think they should thin everything with it.

Which folks are you talking about? I never implied that I thin everything with it nor have I heard anyone say that they do.

I think you are jumping to conclusions there.

  8. So you're saying that the MM Acryl sticks well to the Krylon paint? I painted an F/A-18 last year with MM Acryl applied over a Tamiya primer and it seemed to work fine but I didn't need to mask it or anything like that.

Let me ask this: Has anyone sprayed MM Arcryl over Tamiya primer and had any adherence issues? This is my main concern.

  9. Title of post says it all.

Obviously, it can be thinned with laquer thinner but will it be ruined by the thinner? I've had trouble on several occasions with MM Acryl not sticking to the model. I was wondering if thinning it with laquer thinner would help it stick to the model any better. The model will be primed with Tamiya primer, BTW.

Or, if I painted the primed surface with regular MM Acryl and then sprayed laquer thinner or a laquer gloss coat over the MM paint to help it "melt" into the primer would that be an option? Clearly these would have to be thin layers of laquer thinner.

Usually I avoid using MM Acryl but in this case they have some specific colors that I need and the subject will be getting alot of masking for a cammo scheme.

    Thanks.

  10. It depends what look you want. The F-22 does in fact have a metallic sheen but it depends on how you see it i.e. is it in the daylight or is it under overcast skies? What angle are you looking at it from?

In this pic the planes look like they have basic flat grey paint jobs: Grey F-22

In this one it looks very metallic: Metallic F-22

You just have to paint it the way you want it to appear. Either way is "correct." I painted my Academy F-22 in a metallic sheen and here's how it looks in indoor lighting:

And here's how it looks in sunlight. You can clearly see the sheen on the nose:
