  1. Janne, My apologies that I completely missed it. A prop is a rare build for you. Will have to go and check it out for sure. Joel
  2. Janne, Just because right now I'm 100% into race car modeling, doesn't mean that my interest in aircraft modeling is shelved for good, nor would I ever consider just stop following my long time friends here. After all, someone has to keep you "honest". and pointed in the right direction. Joel
  3. Capt. Obvious, Thanks so much for all your support throughout my Lotus Type 72E build. It honestly means quite a lot to me. This was a much harder paint job to do then the all white one on the Porsche 917K as Black shines like no other color, but done wrong is a true nightmare. Believe me I know. Decaling honestly is decaling, and my years as strictly a military modeler truly has helped, if anything the super smooth raw paint surfaces make decaling a joy in most cases (nothing solves crappy or way to old decal issues). What I'm finding is that the Lotus JPS sponsorship years
  4. Janne, Thought I'd pull up my chair and follow alone as the word on the list is that you're serving unlimited amounts of Popcorn. Not to mention that I can't resist watching you work your way through all those sprues. Should even keep you busy for the next several months. Joel
  5. Fozzy, Nice to see you back at the bench. Your start for the radio room looks really quite good. Certainly up to your usual standards. The drilled out viewing hole does make a lot of sense. Lets hope your next update doesn't take 4 more months. Joel
  6. Ben, Thanks so much my friend, your comments are greatly appreciated. Gloss black waxed coupled with Gold pin stripping is a match made in heaven for sure. Joel
  7. Janman, Thanks so much for those most kind words, and being here for me throughout the build. No denying it, the JPS livery is a spectacular classic for sure. Done right, it's eye catching, but to many screw ups and it can become a nightmare. That's why I cut up a lot of the stripping. I have a few decaling issues, but I got lucky, and it worked out ok. Joel
  8. Ben I just bought the Tamiya 1/18 scale Lola T160 that Surtees drove in the Can Am. Not the scale I wanted, but it's the only one around. I'd kill for a T163 as well. There is the rare and super expensive T70 in 1/12 scale, but my wife would kill me if one just happened to appear. when I reached my magic stash number of 12 car kits, then I go into my build one, by one mode. My next model will be the Ebbro 1/20 Brabham 1966 F2 car as several hobby shops are taking advance orders for it. Joel
  9. Well, the Lotus Type 72E finally crossed the finish line. Less days to completion then previous builds, but the hours are most likely about the same. Being retired and still not even looking for a part time job, does give me a lot of free time once I finish my daily "Honey To Do List" choirs. It was time to "bolt" the engine/gearbox/suspension to the chassis tub. Ebbro has a screw and tongue to really keep it locked into place. Then the body panels were fitted and the slightest amount of Extra Thin was used to keep it where it belongs. Then the cowling, and it was a real bear to
  10. Janman, Glad to read that you're going to be building some Formula 1 cars. I gotta admit that I much prefer the cars of the late 60s through the 80s verses today's aerodynamic winged wonders. Honestly, they look dreadful. But such is progress. As for Kiki's FW08 Williams, you could use the Tamiya FW07 as they're pretty similar. I do a lot of You tube searches on racing, and I'm just amazed at what is there. Joel
  11. I've never been awakened at 3am by testing cars at the track even when I was racing, as we always stayed at a motel. The only 1/18 scale Lola T 160, or for that matter in any other scale besides 1/43rd that I know of that was kitted, was Surtees car. I'd kill for one of Haas's Orange Simonize Lola's. But I'm lucky enough to get this kit. Now I need to buy the Tamiya 1/18 scale McLaren M8A to go with it. I keep on promising myself that I've bought enough car kits, and should go into build one/buy one mode, but I can't help myself. Joel
  12. Slartibartfast, So glad that you liked my efforts. The really good news is that I finished the Lotus this afternoon, and will be shooting the update pictures tomorrow. Joel
  13. Capt. Obvious, So glad that you stopped by both to say "hi", and to checkout the progress on my Lotus Type 72E. There's literally a ton of AM decals from several very small companies from Hong Kong these days. the one that I found that actually had what I was looking for was from a Google search. The company is Decalpool. their email address is: Decalpool@gmail.com. and they do reply within a few days to your inquiries via email. I've also been spending a lot of time on HLJ site, and when I do specific searchers like for Ebbro F1 kits, pages of AM parts and
  14. Ben, I bought 6 bottles from Sprue Brothers when they have it in stock. Joel
  15. Ben, Love to follow your McQueen 917K build. I still watch the movie on you tube all the time. I didn't get to go to the Vintage car races at Lime Rock Conn due to health issues, but I'm guessing that there are some 962Cs still showing up. I feel your pain about the price of some AM decals. Try IndyCals. Mike always adding decals and his prices are great. I keep on buying them and in some cases I don't even have the kit. And speaking of kits, I was on ebay this morning taking a break from trimming all the front of the house shrubs and bushes (what fun that is), and I
  16. Janman, I'm trying to help build up the car forums, but so far it hasn't had much of a response. Joel
  17. Janman, Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out the progress to date on my type 72E, it's much appreciated. Joel
  18. As I said, the Zero paint was a failure, so I ordered several bottles of paint from Gravity of Spain as I said in a previous post. I had stripped all the paint and primer off the various panels, and reprimed with Mr. Hobby Primer Sealer thinned 1:1 with Mr. Hobby's Mr. Color leveling thinner. Which I Air Brushed at 20 psi in light coats. Gave it a hour or so to dry, and once again lightly wet sanded it with Tamiya's 3,000 sponge. Next paint session I air brushed on the Gravity Gloss Black that is also pre-thinned at my now standard 20 psi in light coats. Looked way better. I gave that a few da
  19. Compared to other forms of racing, it's certainly almost non-existent here in the states, and rarely gets any tv coverage that I've seen. Joel
  20. Now that you mentioned it, I do recall hearing about those rallies, but never followed through trying to find them on TV. Joel
  21. Janman, The single Work In Progress forum must have been before my start date here, and I've been here since May of 2011. I can certainly see the advantages of having one section, but I'm sure that the strictly aircraft guys weren't thrilled with that arrangement. The concept, like on other multi build type sites is to have the different build types separated for ease of use, but it certainly seems to have had the opposite effect where cross viewing now becomes a conscience effort, rather then seeing the build threads mixed by date. Given a choice, I'd much prefer the one section set
  22. Faust, That's a great piece on both modeling and Hot Rod nostalgia. I was never a custom/hot rod type of guy, but always into the British type sports cars both street & track. But I do remember those kits from my youth, although I never built one that I can remember at this stage of my life. Perhaps, I should be sporting those Sunset Stripes on my fall jackets at my post 70 age. Out of the lot, the D-50 would actually be a great seller for a real truck. Have you built any of these type of cars, or are you just still collecting them? Joel
  23. Janman, I'd kill to spend a day or two at the Porsche corp. museum. while most people have Ferraris as their all time favorite car, mine has always been Porsche (with the exception of the 944 series). Growing up in the 60s it was very easy to be both a Ford Sports car racing fan as they ran in the over 3.0 liter Prototype class, while the Porsches ran in the same races but in the 3.0 liter and under class. God, how I loved to watch the 908s at Sebring and Daytona. I'm still planning on doing another 917K but in the Gulf Wyler colors, maybe even Steve McQueen's car from
