  1. Still trying to work on this. trying to figure out how to do a wash so I've been practicing on the first F-86 attempt. I am not feeling it, but I wanted to show to see if anyone can help point me in the right direction. Using oil paint in mineral spirit for the wash. First the wash: The test plane:
  2. Was wondering since I already have a 1/48 F-4G still waiting to be built. If the option to make an E was available, then I would go that route.
  3. Was under the impression they used the Revell F-4E molds to make the G. Wondering if the parts to build the E were still included.
  4. While it would require work, is it possible to make Revell's 1/32 F-4G into an F-4E. Are there parts for it on the sprue or if you wne that route, would you have to scratchbuild the parts to do so?
  5. I stayed away from the Academy decals. My first attempt with them was horrendous. I was gifted with some AeroMaster decals which I used for this build and purchased the AeroMaster stencils from another source. Those were worth it.
  6. Heading down the home stretch...
  7. Started on the stencil decals. Bottom is completed, working on the top then the sides.
  8. Completed some more decaling last night. Enjoy....
  9. Thanks all, was always wondering about getting the extras for my builds since I like to build my planes in flight. I think I've only ever build one model wheels down.
  10. I've been thinking and I wanted to throw this out to the community. For anyone who builds their planes in flight or just with the canopy closed, do you bother to do the full resin/photo-etch cockpit? In my opinion, if building the model in flight, once you put in a pilot it gets kind of crowded, almost to the point of obscuring the details. So, would you build the model with a full resin cockpit and the photo-etch or do nothing at all?
  11. Was able to start applying the decals last night. ran into some fit issues, but nothing that shouldn't be too much of an issue. Was surprised that the decals sat on the curve of the wingtips since during the application process I couldn't get those things to lay down to save my life. Here it is so far.
  12. ...and the rest of the pictures: Slight bleed under: Comparison between my first attempt(right) and what I am working on now:
  13. Just about done with the painting. Only need to address some minor bleed under issues, but overall I am very happy with how it came about. Even though I did forget to address scaling down the tone of the gunmetal around the machine gun, but that's just a lesson learned. Was concerned with the yellow because of the layers of white I had to spray, but it came out better than I expected.
  14. More work completed last night.
  15. Thanks for the help. I sprayed the white last night, plus the other colors I needed to add. The yellow will be tonight or tomorrow. Hopefully this time around it will come out not so... shiny. :)
  16. Sorry, it was yellow enamel sprayed over the NMF. It looks like a big blob of yellow. This is probably the best picture of it I can find of the first attempt on an older build (not the current model):
  17. Applied the NMF over the weekend. Not as blotchy looking as these pictures may make it look. I added a couple more thin layers plus I have taped it up in preparation for some of the other colors. Currently running into an issue with needing to add yellow to the nose. I am thinking of using acrylic for it, but would I need to add a white base to it?
  18. Oh I know they will, don't get me wrong and believe me I understand it's a generational thing where the one coming up is always looked down upon. Just distressing to see that for ever person, male or female who is upstanding there is another who can't fill out an application or make a decision without Mommy or Daddy being write there do it. Seen it happen. Also... when in the world did 38 become OLD!!!!!
  19. I joined the Army because the Air Force recruiter failed to show up for any of the assigned appointments I made with her. Even being the son of a Air Force veteran with 26 1/2 years plus a 4 year college degree. I wanted to serve, and the Army was there with the benefits that made it worthwhile and gave me the sense of giving back to what I felt I needed to do. It was an added benefit to get the bonus, rank increase and repayment for my college. This was in 2000, so there is a way to get someone's attention, it would just help to have recruiters in on the process since they have to sell it
  20. Morning everyone, while choosing a scheme for my F-86 build, I noticed I have to paint the nose yellow. My first attempt wasn't the greatest so I am looking into an alternative. As it stands, I have already sprayed the area with Alclad II Aluminum and I am looking into the best brand of paint to paint for that section. The brands available to me are Model Masters, the regular Testors and Vallejo Acrylic. I am leaning more towards Vallejo since I should be able to clean it up with no issue and not damage the NMF finish underneath. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  21. Wetsanded the black with 1500, 2000, and 4000 grit sandpaper. Might have taken a little too much off. Will be wiping off the streaks later, then off to apply the Alclad.
  22. Looks great to me, keep up the excellent work.
  23. Worked on this on Saturday after several days of sanding and priming. Just waiting for the paint to fully dry then it is off to start the NMF work.
