  1. Thanks so much for the links! I see a lot of great stuff on there, after spending the last two hours looking over the links, I'm really excited for the future when I can order myself some new stuff for the stash! There's way more out there than I knew existed... And looking over your website, Starfighter Decals (Sorry I don't know your name to refer to you properly) I see some stuff in other scales I want as well! So many options are open to me, I love it.
  2. Hi folks, two questions from a rookie to this side of modeling... #1- A few months back I purchased a set of aftermarket decals, for a 1/72 B-26 Marauder. The decals in the kit I'm building are shot- ususable and the blue US national insignia was printed in black, anyway. So, I went online and found an aftermarket set...but...it only provides 2 of the 4 needed national insignia. Is there any set available of just the national insignia, or am I going to have to either do without or fork over more than I paid for the kit (nothing, actually!) to build it correctly? I'm really very new to air
  3. I know it's not in NJ, but there is the American Air Power Museum on Long Island NY somewhere. I'm not exactly sure where but they hold model shows there periodically, one was last weekend. Some of the HVHMG members went down, but I didn't, I went to a car show instead.
  4. Cool! My favorite big plane. I got to see one of them up close when I was little, and it's been a favorite ever since.
  5. One thing you notice is that people in different parts of the USA speak differently. The accents and the choice of words. Bostonians add Rs, New Yorkers drop them for example. Some parts of the country use different terms for the same thing. For example, several years back my mom discovered that, in Ohio, asking for "tea" got iced tea, she had to specify if she wanted it warm, and at 6 AM on an October morning, she did! Not only that, they referred to what we in upstate NY called Iced Tea, sweet tea.
  6. Completed my first military aircraft on 11/20/11, a Revell of Germany 1/144 Hellcat. It may not be the best model you've ever seen, but I am happy with it! While doing research on the plane on this forum, I discovered a photo of a fleet of them painted gloss red in 1946 with different color tails. They were flown at a nuclear test to see if the radiation would affect the plane! Each plane had a different tail color and since the kit decals included 2, I did the blue tail. Glad it didn't include 14 as that plane's tail was pink! I scratchbuilt the rigging, which might be a little out of scale,
  7. Now here are some kits I purchased- I took home 32 new kits! For these first three, I would like to know what scale they are, what year they were issued, and if there are any aftermarket decals available? The kit decals have gone well beyond the yellowing stage, and have turned orange. I don't think they are usable. I'd like to build the kits, though... The seller thinks these are from the late 50s or early 60s, and also that this is the complete set. Is that right? These are the smallest scale models I've ever seen- when done, they could be displayed on the quarter! These are slightly
  8. This past Saturday was our 25th Anniversary show, and it was probably my best show ever. I took three awards- my previous career high was 2, and I've been entering models in shows since 2002- and I also brought home 32 models from the vendor room! I also judged for the first time- it was actually fun to do. Here are a sample of some of the plane models that were on display...as the builder's names are not shown for judging purposes, I have no idea who built any of them. I believe this one took our People's Choice award. I photographed every model, there are more planes and a
  9. Thanks for the input- you are right, a lot of people did win more than one...I took three myself. (More than doubling my career total) But...that's for the simple fact that most everyone brought more than one model...and the ones they brought were of high calibre. The only way to change that: Convince more people to show up! It would make more work for us, as judges, but I think that's something we would not have a problem with. :) We also have a no-sweeps rule in place, so one builder cannot take all 3 awards...unless only one builder enters the class, which we have had happen. (There was onl
  10. Awesome! I'll be the one taking pictures of every single model on display, I'll also have a nametag, stop by and say hello!
  11. I slept through the race, and found out when I woke up. Truly horrible news. This is why being a fan of auto racing is the hardest sport to be a fan of.
  12. Despite posting on model car speicific forums on (semi) regular basis, this is the first in depth build up I've seen posted. It looks great...and I can't wait to get mine! The mold seam issues on the fender concerns me, because I'm not good at body work, but I'm better at taking parts off than putting them on! (filling the seams)
  13. I have not really been to their website in a while, not sure where I put it. Does anyone have a direct link? And perhaps the biggest question, do they have Ambroid Pro Weld? I'm stuck, because I'm out of it, and I refuse to use lesser glues in it's absence just because they are available....anymore. If they don't, anyone know where I can find some?
