  1. I could be wrong on this, as I haven't seen it on the shelf yet. But my understanding was that it was out in eastern Europe and hadn't really hit the Western distributors yet.
  2. They are new to aircraft. They have been around in small scale armor (lot of cold war USSR stuff) and have a pretty decent reputation for those kits. They have ventured in to what seems like a trend of cold war strategic bombers and this will be their second kit. They made a 1/72 B-52H that has just fairly recently actually hit the shelves. The previews have looked good, but I haven't seen anything in the way of reviews of the actual plastic.
  3. Any updates on shipping of the new book? Apologies for pestering, I'm just eager and excited.
  4. I have the following for sale in an attempt to reduce my stash: Hobby Boss #80350 1/48 F-111D/E - $53 + shipping. PM or email me at eszczesniak(at)gmail(dot)com if interested. Payment by Paypal. Shipping for for CONUS is probably about $10, depending on how far from zip 46383 you are. Thanks for looking.
  5. I was wondering if anyone had a good recommendation for a hobby type spray gun. I'm looking for something that has a coverage similar to a Tamiya rattle can. I have a number of badger and Iwata cup and gravity feed airbrushes, but the spray patterns at best get to a couple inches. It works fine for color and I've made it work for clear coats, but I'd like to find something that would be a little better for laying down a good gloss...but not crazy like an automotive gun.
  6. Well, at least for one reason, reference earlier in this thread. A PDF is easily distributed to those who don't own the book, or require very complicated electronic protection.
  7. The website is built in frames and I don't think I can give a direct link (it all shows up as www.dacoproducts.com). But look for the "Daco Books" icon along the top, then scroll down about 3 books in the left hand frame to the F-14 book.
  8. So the Tamiya instructions are wrong?...that's what I'm trying to be sure of. I know the standard paint scheme for the Tomcat at this time and I know it's 16440 and gloss white. But Tamiya calls for flat colors and, as I mentioned in my post, I thought someone had very specific information regarding this airframe getting a depot overhaul that returned it in the non-standard flat colors. I can't find this post now though, so I'm trying to confirm that I either imagined seeing this, or that I just can't find this post again.
  9. That's not totally what I was looking for. The extent of weathering varies by modeler. In particular, this is a CAG bird in an early 70's paint scheme. The pictures I've seen of these birds are much the opposite of the TPS schemes. I'm certainly not going to do full gloss, but I'd like to know where it started and go from there.
  10. Was there any resolution on this? I thought someone posted that this was correct...something about a depot maintenance and returned in flat colors. But I can't seem to find that post now. I'm getting close to pain, so it's time for me to work those details out.
  11. If you're referring to the nozzles, typically the left is closed and right is open. The right engine is the last one shut down, so the hydraulic pumps are running to close the left engine nozzle as it spools down, but not for the right one.
  12. There are some stipulations that allow you to reproduce parts of a book for personal backup and/or educational uses (can't be the whole book). I'm not sure of the details, but if he keeps the PDF for himself without intent to distribute, this could be ok (again, don't remember the details). Regardless, distributing through the forum is not ok and I am going to pass. Air one, I do appreciate your generosity, but be careful. Even if no legal trouble comes, many forums will outright ban members for such statements.
  13. I suppose we shouldn't be so surprised! Tamiya has really gotten this one right.
  14. Appreciate the input. Tamiya has nailed so much in this kit, I've had a heavy consideration that this may be correct too despite my initial reaction that it should be filled in. Looks like they're at least half correct, and possibly totally correct.
  15. I certainly could have, but I did do this by the guidance Tamiya gave. If you look at the backside of the parts, there is an area that is half thickness of the rest of the part in the same shape as what the instructions tell you to remove. I just removed this area of half thickness. They've used this on other kits to denote the area to be removed too, so I don't think I was hallucinating their intentions.
  16. I never got Daco's "Uncovering the F-14A/B/D Tomcat" and it seems impossible to find now. Is there any other good walkaround book in similar vein?
  17. I'm about to put together the back end of my Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat. The instructions have you remove a little fillet of plastic on each side of the beaver tail next to the fairings. I did so, but now see this gap between the fairing piece and the beaver tail: My first instinct was to break out some plastic sheet and fill this gap back in, but seeing how everything else on this bird has just fallen together, I thought there's a chance this is supposed to be there. I've had a hard time getting pictures from just the right angle to show this area, but it
  18. I have the following package for sale: Hasegawa CH39:6800 1/48 F/A-18C Hornet "Folding Wing" Black Box 48063 F/A-18C Late Lot Two Bobs 48-062 F/A-18C Patriot Hornets Asking $65 plus shipping. PM me or email at eszczesniak(at)gmail(dot)com if interested. Thanks for looking
  19. I thought I'd like to build this, but finally realized I don't have the space to display the bird. I have the following for sale: Hobby Boss #80350 1/48 F-111D/E - New in box (never had shrink wrap, everything inside is sealed) Asking $55 plus shipping. PM me or email at eszczesniak(at)gmail(dot)com if interested. Thanks for looking
  20. I saw that Modelcollect announced this new kit the old fashioned way...in a magazine! http://modelcollect.com/usaf-b-2a-spirit-stealth-bomber Should be a major step up from any other available option, even if it's not Tamiya. Anyone know how the B-52H turned out? Either way, I'm pretty excited!
  21. Thank you both for the replies. That silent compressor had caught my eye in the past too. The one from Amazon is too similar to what I have already though.
  22. I'm thinking about making an upgrade to my compressor and am looking for suggestions. The one I currently have is: http://www.harborfreight.com/16-hp-58-psi-oilless-airbrush-compressor-60329.html Overall it's been good for me, but my main complaint is the relatively low airflow rate can be limiting at higher PSI's. By the specs it's about 14 lm / 0.5 CFM and max 58 PSI, but can't maintain greater than about 20 PSI while spraying. That's not bad for hobby airbrushing, but is a touch limiting at times. I'm happy with the noise level, but wouldn't complain about quieter (about 58 db by spec
  23. I'm continuing to upload the recent batch of models I wa able to sit down and photograph. Here's the middle of the group (in terms of how pleased I am). This is Kinetic's 1/48 T-45C with Superscale decals for VT-122. Overall I am fairly happy with this one, but like black, pure white can be a hard color to keep visually interesting. The large eagle decal over the rear fuselage was one of the hardest decals I've done in quite some time. As always, constructive criticism, critiques, and comments are welcome.
