  1. "Guns? What guns? Don't you know guns are obsolete and missiles are the future?" LOL
  2. As a former Jurassic Park fan (#3 killed it for me, but #2 was a crippler first), there is VERY LITTLE commonality between the movie and the book. While the first was basically "take front half of book, slap on happy ending" the second was basically "throw book in trash compactor to make first 2/3, add new Mayhem on Mainland section". I'm completely Sitting It Out on #4 next summer... it's like the POS A-Team movie, the Knight Rider reboot of a few years ago and the Denzel Washington take on Equalizer... there is NOTHING I can have as a happy childhood memory that Hollyweird isn't positively
  3. Amigo, I think you're thinking several hundred miles east of me. lol
  4. Ah, the good old days... when there was more on Discovery worth watching than just MythBusters and Shark Week.
  5. I'm throwing a bit of a Hail Mary here, but does anybody have anything on the VEP mods for 158542 and 158547 before the three ADVCAPs were cut-and-spliced into FrankenProwler? Mainly, I'm looking for anything that could help me fab the fin-tip and wing LERX extensions, what few photos I've seen are all at more dramatic "artsy" angles and nothing square-on and suitable for reference.
  6. Oh, the shade I was referring to was FS15102 True Blue. So far I've only found it in enamel, which sucks if you work in acrylic.
  7. There was also a time that the IDF liked a particular capri-blue that the only place I remember seeing it in American use was the 318th FIS's distinctive squadron markings. I'll see if I can dig up the FS# again.
  8. Yeah, the closest HobbyTown USA to my area is sadly rather lacking. (Tukwila, WA--I only shop there because it's conveniently close to the hotels I stay at when I have business in Seattle proper, and that's when I can't make arrangements to find my way up the hill to Skyway.)
  9. Bumped with link from the Experts... :)
  10. I'll ask the guys over on the 106 forum... edit the reply into this post later. EDIT: Here's the thread: http://forum.f-106deltadart.com/thread/4797/ram-air-turbine-question-arc
  11. Unsure, I'm a fan of having options--my main problem with a lot of Revell/Monogram kits is they're designed for on-the-ground display only and take major surgery to button up for flight (A-10, P-61, a few others). On the other hand, if you need a complicated jig to assemble everything... Really, I'd like to see some manufacturer take a split approach with "Basic" and "Deluxe" versions of the same subject. The "Basic" would be able to be built buttoned up for flight or with routine-servicing panels opened for refueling and rearming, the "Deluxe" would include multipart engines, radar, avionics
  12. Lemme tell you something as both an AOPA member and a Recovering Journalist: if USA Today were any MORE full of bullcrap, they could open a fertilizer factory big enough to satisfy the entire WORLD's needs.
  13. I'd rather woo the girl who built it and create an arsenal together... and crank out a squad of sprog big enough to operate all of 'em at once. ;)
  14. LOL, I always thought it was next to the reel of FLIGHT line myself... must be 'cuz I grew up Air Farce with a retired old Master Sarge who taught me the ins and outs of a lot of those little tricks early in life. Of course, there's also the classic story on the origins of "horse's a**" and why roads, railroads, car wheels, etc.are spaced the way they are... LOL
  15. 'Bout bloody time those worthless hacks in Congress got off their asses and made it happen...
  16. By demand... This is one of the filming models, and you can tell it's seen better days--the tail fins have visible damage for one, worn down to a curved tip LE from the sharp edge topped with F-15-style "bullets" visible in the film, and the entire cockpit section and nose is just GONE.
  17. Chris, my guess is they were going to try to cram it into the space between the cockpits--the "tunnel" Marion had to traverse to get from front-office to gun blister, which though not shown HAD to be there unless she somehow teleported.
  18. Pretty sure it's fictional, designed by ILM--there are some interesting shots of concept drawings and a filming model in From Star Wars to Indiana Jones: The Best of The Lucasfilm Archives. Frankly, I'm not even sure such a bird COULD fly, and it shows some glaring design deficiencies for how hi-tech it was supposed to be like not even having retractable gear. It DOES look cool, though...
  19. Well, the first question is how much of that ship is its sensor package? If they can strip that and it's small enough to stuff into a cargo plane or load onto a couple semi-trailers, then it's something to worry about... Otherwise, if it looks like it might hit Game On, track those ships in the build-up and hit them with the opening missile salvo as part of "Disrupt Command & Control." What did Schwarzkopf say about the plan for Desert Storm, something about "first knock out their eyes then pull their teeth"? This is just illustrating that defense technology ALWAYS means jockeying for pos
  20. Well, we can also look to the model railroading scene for precedent and illustration, since there's a lot of cross-over in skill-set, manufacturing, mind-set, etc. That entire industry, once upon a time, was split between toys (Lionel, American Flyer, etc.) and hard-core craftsman kits that you actually had to do some of your own PARTS fabrication on, mainly woodworking. Then about the 1950s, companies like Roundhouse and Athearn introduced "Shake The Box" kits where all you really needed to do was press pieces into holes and screw the wheel trucks (bogies to you Euros) and weights on--and eve
  21. Gibbs's Rule Number Four: "The best way to keep a secret? Keep it to yourself. Second best? Tell one other person - if you must. There is no third best."
  22. Naw, I think it just hit so hard and at such an angle that it bounced instead of auguring in...
  23. Sorry, you said "Delta Tanker" in the subject line, and for some reason my brain went straight to "what if USAF outsourced the tanker business to the airlines?" LOL Very nice build--I'm another for whom the Vulcan is a favorite, though my partiality is specific to XH558 filming Thunderball.
  24. Here's a detail worth noting: not all TRAM Intruders got the SWIP composite-wing, and if I recall correctly per Kinzey there were SWIP birds without TRAM fitted. If memory serves, there were a number of birds still waiting for rewinging when the order came to scrap 'em all... So, really, you need to check references on the specific bird you're trying to model. If you've chosen a BuNo that's ended up in a museum or featured extensive photos in a Walk Around type book or website, that will make things much easier obviously.
