  1. That is an awesome build.
  2. Just found out we should use this URL instead; it's at royaleresin.net.
  3. As noted, the Bureau Number is equivalent to the VIN. At Grumman, we tracked aircraft by that number, e.g., I worked on a project looking at per aircraft counts of traps, touch-and-goes, bolters, &etc to understand the airframe's fatigue life...
  4. And another problem is the wheel well. The kit boxes it in, it isn't (well, that shot also includes Eduard PE)... Aries has a nice resin well, but some SER-I-OUS work is required to fit it in. It does look good once it's in... For the P-51D, which has the same problem, I'm going to try the A.M.U.R.Reaver wheel well instead; I got his cockpit & radio set as well.
  5. This proposal is getting a great reception! The template has been posted; xavi84 has volunteered to be a co-coordinator.
  6. Or the base color beneath the tape. It seals the tape and any bleed-through is invisible.
  7. Welcome back! I really prefer to support my LHS whenever possible; I always check them first. Having written that, Sprue Bros & Squadron are my go to online stores. As Jennings mentions, don't forget Amazon for more mainstream hobby supplies. I've also used the following for less common bits: UMM-USA, Track48 (Canada), Jadar Model (Poland), Quarter-Kit Shop (France), and Adalbertus (Poland)
  8. Time to start the template. Name: Grumman Iron Works GB Dates: July 13 - Dec '13 Mods: David Lombard (me), and others yet to volunteer Link to planning thread Description: A celebration of all things Grumman. Aircraft, spacecraft, trucks, and boats. Must have been built, at least as a prototype, and must have carried the Grumman name (Northrup-Grumman and Flxible Bus are off-topic). The start date is a guess, so far only 2 are listed starting in July v. 3 in March. I also showed the standard 6 month duration, but personally, I'd prefer a little longer, like 9 months. I really want to fo
  9. Jerry's Wood Fired Dogs serve the best hot dogs, and they're here the OC (Orange County, CA). Here's what they will put on yer dog: Mustard, Dijon Mustard, Spicy Brown Mustard, Cleveland Stadium Mustard, Ketchup, Mayonnaise, Chipotle Mayo, BBQ Sauce, Teriyaki Sauce, Tapatio Hot Sauce, Tabasco Sauce Grilled Onions, Bright Green Relish, Red/White Onions, Sweet Relish, Grilled Peppers, Cole Slaw, Jalapeño Peppers, Sauerkraut, Sport Peppers, Tomatoes, Pepperoncinis, Lettuce, Pickle Slices, Cucumbers, Pickle Spears Celery Salt, Garlic Salt, Bacon Bits, Black Olives They'll also do chili dogs,
  10. Thanks for the pointer! I've been looking in all the wrong places--Office Depot, OfficeMax, & Staples.
  11. This is outstanding! Keep those votes coming! Looks like there's an overwhelming tide for anything Grumman! From the LEM, (when I was there, many of the old timers would wax poetic about "the LEM days") to the canoe. Trucks included the Grumman Olsen vans, a common regional sight, the Postal truck, and fire trucks. There were also civil aircraft, including the Gulfstream line of corporate aircraft, Grumman American light aircraft, Ag-cats, and the "Gulfhawk II" variant of the F3F.
  12. In 1/72 scale, 6 ft measures 1 in. 4 ft * 12 in/ft / 72 = 0.6667 in
  13. Who's interested in a Grumman group build? I have strong interest in the aircraft from when I worked there from 84-89. I was an engineer in Bethpage, and did some analyses of the EA6, F14, and E2C. I have very fond memories of working there and met some outstanding people--including my wife :)/>/>/> We have a truly amzing selection of kits, PE, resin, and decals. Widely available kits include F4Fs, F6Fs, and F14s, in all of their many forms. Among the many others are the F9F, A6, EA6, E2C, C2, TBF, the about-to-be-released HU-16, and OV-1. There are even some rare ones, like the Duc
  14. Just found this thread, perfect timing! Since dymo tape is less and less available, I'll try the pinstriping tape. Thanks for the suggestion! I have another question. Scribing straight lines and gentle curves just takes patience, especially with the panel scribing tool I have (hexagonal handle, "hooked" tip at end). How to you scribe small-radius arcs, as you might find in an access panel? The tool I have is too "uni-directional" in my experience. Do you just use a sharp pin point or a machinest's scribe? BTW, I found that sharpening the panel scribing tool is easy, just lay one of the tip
  15. Agree with painting from light to dark. Have first-hand experience on why I personally have not had a good experience with Micro Sol & Set on Tamiya decals. This was quite maddening to me as they've worked great with Cartograf, TechMod, and others.
  16. Focusing on 1/48 B-17s. IIUC, there are 4 boxings of two molds. The G and F are readily available; the F has less interior detail. There are also two additional G versions, "Pro Modeler" and "Visible", which are less available. Here are some more links of interest that Google found for me: www.swannysmodels.com/B17G.html www.small-wonder.org/Projects_Monogram_B-17G.htm www.small-wonder.org/projects_revell_b-17f.htm
  17. Looks very good! Nice crisp masking on the radome and wing... I have never had any luck thinning paints for airbrushing with anything but the manufacturer's thinner. Every once in a while, I even have problems when cleaning, where I exclusively use lacquer thinner. Don't know what I'm doing wrong... In any event, I've now using MM enamels after a long absence (last used Floquil, lo those many moons ago). I must say I don't know why I switched to acrylics...
  18. And last year's update to the Rest of the Story was Hobbico also bought Revell of Germany.
  19. I like Gator's Grip for these non-load-bearing joins. It can be cleaned up with water once it starts setting; also great for clear parts. No affiliation, just a happy customer.
  20. There's also CMK for some Sherman conversions and other resin vehicle conversions and kits that would work well next to an aircraft, such as their fuelers. Another source of resin conversions and vehicles is Accurate Armour's own line of kits--these are British though, so further afield of your original request. Beyond Gaso.line's metal barrels, there are also Lion Marc Model Designs, RB Models, and FineMolds (this last site is Japanese only). I picked up some Lion Marc Sherman barrels from the LHS; their 76MM M1 barrel greatly improved over the plastic barrel HB provided for their M4A3 76(W)
  21. Wow, you've really got me interested in this subject. I too live nearby--just a nice walk away. I've found a few relevant photos for NAS Los Alamitos, but not a lot. What's your source? Would you post images or URLs of this aircraft? TIA!
  22. You're going to do "A LOT of building"? Dude, that scares me. You already crank them out at unbelievable rates, I had assumed you were retired... Do take care. Here's to a complete recovery!
  23. Excellent! That kit's in my stash and it will be nice to watch this build. Wish I had picked up the modeller's plans from the history center when I was working in Bethpage...
  24. I went with dark green I'll add a wash presently.
