  1. Just saw a 1/72 AMT B-26C at an LHS. IIRC is was $20, but I may be under-remembering, so consider the range $20-$30.

The place is Prestige Hobbies, in Anaheim CA. GIYF

I have no interest or connection, just trying to be helpful...

  2. The side windows on the P-38 canopy did indeed roll down like car windows. There is a small crank on each side of the cockpit. The windows were rolled down for ventialtion on the ground. The aircraft were never flown with the side windows down.

The fabulous video on this page shows the pilot cranking the window up around 49:12

  3. Outstanding build! :salute:

Excellent job on the interior, which has quite a lot too it. I see the mounting and cables for the camera were scratch built--an outstanding representation of the photo from the operations manual! Mirage just sat the camera on a simple cross member and ignored the cables. Also nicely done is the work on the instrument panel and rudder controls. While Mirage did a good job on the panel per-se--despite decals that shattered--this one went well beyond.

I'm building an A now, and I know I won't get it to this level of fidelity.

    Well done!

  4. I DEF-I-NITE-LY want the 1/48 versions, however many variants you make. While I already have the 48-105 CAM set for the 1st Fighter Regiment "Warszawa", with that huge Stork on the spine, I was sold as soon as I saw the portraits of Ferić and Pisarek!

Hmmm...your comment about the distortion looks like it's very much the case with the CAM set, as the unit badge looks perfect on the paper.

    Can they be (pre-)ordered now?

  5. UMM carries a set of beading tools.

    No affiliation.

I suppose It Depends on the specifics if a beading tool is sufficient. One would definitely work for a rivet, as all you see if the countersunk head in the hole. A Dzus fastener though, could have more detail; if the detail is just the slot (e.g., this one on a PV-2D), then a blade or scribe would do.

What did Tamiya do for the detail?

  6. Dang, I found Whirlybits at Linden Hill Imports, but they don't even list the 1:72 212 conversion, let alone one in 1:48. It would be fun to do a 212 and/or an S61N as I flew on both to North Sea platforms from Scotland and Norway.

Seems Linden Hill is the best source; any other good sources?

  7. Please, cite a source for your statement that the HVAR was intended for A2A combat...

I too would like to see a source for air-to-air. I was under the impression that the HVAR and its predecessor, the FFAR, were both developed for air-to-surface use by the USN. The FFAR suffered from too low an airspeed, especially after it was fitted with the larger warhead.

  8. Just found this at the LHS--didn't even know it was out! Since I was at Grumman at the time the X-29 was being tested, I had the 1/72 Hasegawa in the stash. But, I'm really much happier with this, as I do 1/48 and 1/144.

    Here's the box

The fuselage is complete, except for the underside

The markings are for the 1st aircraft, now hanging from the ceiling at Wright-Patterson
