  1. crowe-t: the windows totally replace the kit clear. niart17: interesting idea using clear resin. These windows will require a tad of tweaking in the opening, but assembly is just a sandwich with dots of white glue, and then glue on the edges. I've cut the new design today (more accurate "masks"), and painted, its drying. Hopefully I'll assemble one tomorrow and be able to shoot a mockup
  2. Not yet (my model is in the loooong "to build" queue), but I can mock up with tape. I hopefully will be cutting the newones this weekend..or soon anyway!
  3. Thanks for the kind words. I hope to have the windows available in a couple weeks, and they will be a set of all the windows on the ship: Windshield, Top pair, Cargo Bay pair (no hatch window though!). Haven't figured all costs yet, but probably $12.95 for the set. Crowe-t: the frame sand masks are styrene (0.010" / 0.25mm). The inner masks should be thinner, but the thick "sandwich" effect against the clear is lost with thin, so as a scale adjustment stayed thick. The first sheet of clear is very thin, about 0.003", and the inner is about 0.010". It's a thick package when assembled, around 0
  4. Nice detail work. The details really sell it. Windows - I'm a bit late for the window discussion, but I've just made a prototype. The windows are made in a sandwich of outer and inner masks: 3 masks, plus 2 layers of clear. This prototype pic has some incorrect inner masks (there's actually an extra, and the last mask is black) but it shows you the idea. The real windows had 3 panes of glass, this mini 1:72 only has two, as the 3rd is lost in scale limitations. the final effect, hopefully, will show the thick sandwich of layers (especially if I can photo it correctly). It was made in a plo
  5. Modelshipwrights as mentioned is most excellent. Lots going on over there all the time. I'm biased and will mention AMP forums - heavy on subs but expanding all the time: http://models.rokket.biz/index.php
  6. The resin we make is al for the Big Beast, the 1:72, but you might find some good info anyway on the AMP forum, here's the Gato link: http://models.rokket.biz/index.php?board=10.0
  7. The grind and thin is a great method. There's some good info at AMP forum on Type VIICs: http://models.rokket.biz/index.php?board=6.0 and my old build (1:72 but much applies): http://www.rokket.biz/models/modelsweb/rokket/u557/finished.shtml
  8. Very nice work, she looks great! The extra work and paint job really give her a "kick".
