  1. I am very experienced with plastic kits, but I have never built a resin. I went with an Authentic Airliners 757-2 and it will go in USAir colors. I have a couple of questions: 1. What is the best paint to use to get a high quality polished aluminum finish? Any special preparation such and wet sanding? 2. What is the best adhesive to use? Any other tips are appreciated. Thanks
  2. Michael posts here I believe, at least this is where I found out about him. It's a nice fitting model, this is the 3-4 airplane I've ever built so I'm not an expert on model critiquing.
  3. It's actually the Monogram 1/48 kit. I'm 6ft 7in tall, so I don't have the smallest of hands, those Minicraft kits are hard for me to work with.
  4. Thanks! He was a director of personnel, hiring and training pilots and mechanics. I know he flew the Stinson Reliants, training the pilots how to do the air mail pick up, not sure if he ever got in the DC-3 at AAA.
  5. Hey Guys, I've been on this forum for about a year now and I'm mainly a lurker but I'm damn glad I posted thread about 6-9 months ago. I came on here and asked if anyone knew who could make custom decals and people told me about Michael Vykukal of Vintage Flyer Decals. I sent Michael an email with a couple of pictures and about 2 weeks later I had these decals. Why All American Airways? My grandfather worked for them and then my father was a pilot for Allegheny/USAir (for those who don't know, All American changed their name to Allegheny and then USAir). These pictures aren't the best, but I
  6. I've tried using the search functions but can't find them. If you're able to find them, could you PM me a link to their profile? Thanks again!
  7. Thanks. At first I considered it but didnt want to possibly make it worse or flatten out the fuselage, but I never thought of going the opposite directions. I just laid another coat of clear on there, once thats done drying I will give the wet sanding a shot. Thanks again!
  8. I'm currently in the process of building a 1/48 scale DC-3 that will be in All American Airlines colors. I have some fine scratches left behind from sanding the seem on top of the fuselage. I have tried Mr. Surfacer 1000, followed the directions and it would not fill the scratches. Then I tried a clear coat to see if that would do it, it was a little more effective than the Mr. Surfacer. Anyone have advice or technique? I'm going to try Alclad on this model, so it has to be absolutely perfect. Thanks for any help in advance.

  10. Does anyone know of a company that makes Allegheny or All American decals for the DC-3? If not, does anyone know of a company that might be interested in making them if I buy mass amounts of them? I'm currently in the process of making a 1/48 DC-3 for a family friend who flew the DC-3 for All American/Allegheny. If I can't find decals I can always mask and paint, but I would like to have this model completed sometime this decade. Thanks!
  11. The story I heard was the model was supposed to be a -400, but after the moldings came out they noticed it resembled for a -300 than a -400. The instructions were created first and then never corrected after the designation change.
  12. If you're looking for WWII Military transport, you can forget about the C-46 Command. Big beautiful plane.
  13. I agree that some of the guys go a little over the top on how they react to other peoples models. But if the real airplane doesn't have highly visible rivets, then I would say the model shouldn't either. But to each is own, people shouldn't get all pissy on how another guys his own personal model.
  14. I've been looking around at some pictures and some show what looks to be anti-ice on the leading edge. I know there is a former Crusader driver on here, so I was hoping he might chime in. My father flew them as well back in the 60's, but he passed away 2 years ago. Here is one of the pictures I was talking about.
  15. What to you use to thin the paints, thinner or water? And what ratio do you use?
  16. I like it! I used to fly for Chicago Express Airlines before they shut down in April 2005. I have many close up pictures if anyone is planning on build another C8 Saab 340.
  17. Set up a video camera and record the work that goes into building a model. With creative use of video editing, speed up the time, showing a 50-60 hour build in about a 3-4 minute video. Put it on Youtube and then give them a link so they can see what really goes into building a detailed model. If they still don't get the concept, just be blunt with them. Tell them you ha a family, work etc.... Are you building them one at a time or doing a few all at once? Best of luck
  18. Ok, that's pretty creative. Well done!
  19. Nice work! Any chance we can see a close up picture of the pilot "hanging out in the wind"?
  20. What if it's not even his? Maybe he stole it all and is just trying to sell it for drug money? Not so sad now, is it? ps lots of sarcasm in this post
  21. I've noticed that a lot of you guys have amazing looking cockpits and Inst Panel's on the 1/72 and 1/48 scale. How do you guys get your panels so crisp, clean and detailed looking? This is not my picture, just one I saw in an old thread. It's a 1/48 Intruder and looks good. I hope the original own of this picture doesn't get upset that I used it, it's just an example. Thanks in advanced!
  22. Is it because they're detailed or because they're incorrect?
  23. Horizon has a few guys going over to Alaska, as well as other carriers. Most regionals in the US are hiring now. Where do you commute to work? I saw you guys at Chicago MDW a few months back for the first time. Porter feed for anyone or are they their own airline? I fly for one of the Delta Connection Airines.
