If you go to Google maps and type in Lackland AFB Lackland AFB zoom in between Knight Street and Craw Avenue and you will see nine of them that were there when the photo was taken. Also interesting just to scroll around and look at some of the other aircraft that are there, or were there.

My credit card is all warmed up and ready to pop for this one, bring it on !
-
I have been anxiously awaiting this since I heard rumors a couple of years ago, hope it makes it into distribution soon !
-
It looks like a very nicely done kit and a bargain for what's in the box. Had my interest of late not turned to 1/32, I certainly would get this one and still might if the reviews of the forth coming 1/32 kit aren't favorable. Thanks for taking time to do the review !
-
Well, if you don't mind following a link I have my build and completed photos here A-36A I'm not a big accuracy freak so I'm sure there are things that aren't right but I liked the Hobbycraft Allison Mustang kits, warts and all and plan on building at least one more Mediterranean A-36 and a RAF recon bird.
-
It's not beyond the realm of possibility that AM used the museum A-36 as a reference and as you saw I left the one on mine flush !
-
"I don't understand what the F a museum has to do with the federal government. Didn't WE already PAY for everything in said museum? I understand cutting air shows and such because those are active personnel using active hours and receiving pay. But what exactly does a museum have to do with any of this?" In this case the Air Force picks up the tab for the utilities at the museum and I believe provides the buses for transport to the restoration and presidential / experimental area. As it is the Friends of the Museum will be picking up one months worth of the utilities as well.
-
Well, it does appear to be slightly recessed both in this diagram and in this rather poor photo I suspect that AM just over did it a bit when they molded it. Good top side photos of the nose are a bit hard to find.
-
Not sure were talking the same thing, when closed, the normal position, it would just be an outlined panel like small access hatch flush with the surface. I'm at work now but I'll see if I can find a photo of what I talking about tomorrow if someone doesn't beat me to it ! I don't have an AM kit to look at. This is the HobbyCraft kit the panel I'm referring to is the small square about midway back on the intake trunk
-
If it's about midway back on the engine intake trunk it's probably meant to represent the filter bypass opening, the intake trunk included a filter which could get clogged and in an emergency would bypass the filter to get air to the carburetor. Lack other information that's my best guess !

I often wondered what it must have been like in a city where a heavy flack barrage was being put up, any shrapnel that didn't find a home would return to earth, probably not at lethal velocity but none the less one would think it would be similar to a hail storm. Did they go out and sweep the streets afterward to clean up all the metal shards ?
-
What everyone else said. One note on the Presidential / RD hanger tour, there are a limited number of trips a day and on some days they fill up fast so if you are interested, sign up when you arrive before hitting the museum proper.
-
I can't help with the radar operators position but if you are planning on using the kit supplied marking there are some errors between the boxtop artwork and the kit itself. I covered these on my site here P-70 page

Worst fitting plastic kit you've ever built or tried to build ?

Any kit from Mach 2 and most of the kits from Fonderie Miniatures !
