  1. Promodeller mix of black, mud, and white or something. The great thing about the promodeller is that its completely water-soluble, so if you make a mistake just put water on and wipe it off then reapply. I actually regret using the wash, as I think it take away from the unique camo, additionally the plane is actually quite clean in real life.
  2. Fantastic job!!!! The color looks spot on to me, if you're in doubt though, maybe try a dark grey mist over the parts that don't look right. I too remember spending quite a bit of time trying to get the color right when I did mine, good luck with the masking of the last color!
  3. Windmark makes (or made) a conversion for 1/48th academy kits to Su-35/37, very good quality and fit
  4. Makes me want to try a MiG-29 in the near future,
  5. I only have one...a 1/32nd Su-34
  6. Indeed it is! I forgot to thank Mingwin for helping get the canopy to me so quickly and spared me a lot of gnashing of teeth in the process
  7. Here's my 1/48th Su-30 MKI Demonstrator. I started with the Academy Su-30MK kit, and used parts from the Windmark Su-35/37 resin conversion set for the nose and canards ( I know it might not be the exact length, but this was my first attempt at a major conversion and wanted the experience working with resin for a possible 1/32nd Su-34 scratch conversion one day) I used the Begemot decals and full stencils, as well as Aires exhausts (I cut them at an angle to represent the thrust vectoring 'inward' position of the nozzles at rest). For the camouflage, I know its not perfect, but I wasn't goi
  8. Someone in the work in progress section did a really nice mig-21 and had a similar concern, someone posted a photo showing various shades of green, so dont worry about it too much, or if youre using a reference of a specific aircraft just eyeball it.
  9. Stellar work! I really like how well you recreated the "touch ups" on the camouflage done by the crew!
  10. I agree with you about the camouflage, the eurofighter is one of the coolest looking planes and would benefit from some decent camouflage in real life! Nice work
  11. Mingwin: I'd totally be willing to pay for the part and shipping, as it will be less than having to buy a whole new kit
  12. Great results, just out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do all that masking and painting?
  13. Right before I was to finish my Su-30MKI prototype, I dropped the canopy on the ground and stepped on it by accident! Academy will take weeks, if at all to replace it, does anyone have one as a spare that they'd be willing to sell? Thanks Dan
  14. Looks great to me, in fact I would've never noticed some of the things you described. With weathering, check out Masa Narita's website and look at his F-14D and Su-27 builds for how to use enamel washes on mr color lacquer paint to create general weathering, rain stains, and fluid streaks. Another great technique is salt weathering. One technique I use is to add subtle amounts of white to the base color and randomly "mottle" the paint with a low pressure setting, then use salt weathering over that.
  15. If the display is color, then well, I'd say use whatever looks best. However, most radar screen/MFDs until fairly recently were monochrome green, an old flanker especially like the Trumpeter one will be green. As for the general cockpit light, I cannot speak for Russian aircraft, however, red is a "softer" light, and doesn't cause as much glare and blind the pilots as would a normal white light.
  16. Really cant give you a definitive answer, but I used to be a pilot and I can tell you that more often than not, MFD screens are usually green, and cockpit lighting at night is usually kept to a minimum with some sort of red lights.
  17. Really great job on an aircraft you don't see that often, what are you doing next?
  18. Really nice work there, are those stars and bars done from stencils?
  19. Thanks so much for checking, it is the grim reapers they have however, I need the one with the low-viz decals FTD32-014. I appreciate your help though. .
  20. Hi Chuck, I know this is a little off topic, but I know you did a 1/32nd F-14B a ways back with the grim reapers decals. I'm going to do a 1/32nd F-14D and cant seem to find the decals anywhere, I was hoping you might still have them with the low-viz aircraft number 165 still on them? Thanks Dan
  21. Does anyone have the 1/32nd F-14D decals for VF-101, specifically the low-viz ones with aircraft 165 still on them that they'd be willing to sell, or know of a site where I can get them? Thanks so much! Dan
