  1. Unless you're entering it in a competition or just hate seams, just airbrush it it light layers and go SLOW, I don't usually worry about intakes not being perfect for two reasons. 1.) You really don't see them unless you look directly into them. 2.) Intakes will usually be quite dirty, so a little uneven painting can actually help the look a little bit.

  2. I'm curious if anyone can shed some light on why Tamiya is not really releasing any new jet aircraft in the 1/48th and 1/32nd scale?. Was it because of the Tsunami? It seems Trumpeter is exploding with new 1/32nd scale jets these days...Is there just not a lot of demand? Seems like with the advent of CAD design and however they did the Mustang that they've got a great method going...

  3. Everybody's different when it comes to weathering, personally I think overdoing it a bit can be beneficial for a model especially because you or others often look at it from a bit of a distance and that way the weathering stands out more.

  4. So for the next project I'm doing I decided to use the zactoman su-27 canopy correction. I've never worked with vacuuformed canopies before, does anyone have any suggestions, tips, techniques, etc.? Is a good idea to essentially mask off the area that you want for the finished canopy and slowly cut/sand from there? In separating the front windscreen from the main canopy I was think of putting several layers of masking tape between the two and then taking an xacto blade and slowly cut/separate the two. Any thoughts?

  5. It would probably be tricky, but you could get lots of the verlinden detail set into the kinetic. The toughest, yet by far one of the coolest looking elements is the boarding ladder. Only catch is because its designed for the Revell kit, the actual ladder is wider than the kinetic kit, but some careful cutting and filing should be able to fix it.

  6. Title says it all, I'm about to start a new 1/32nd Su-27, and I've got a couple possibilities for the colors, but was wondering if anyone has a specific mix/ratio for FS 35550 in the Gunze Mr. Color paint line, its the pale blue-grey (lightest color).

    Thanks

  7. I stumbled across something really interesting this evening. In the Begemot instructions for SU-30s, it lists FS 35190 as the blue, so I mixed it according to the help I got from JasonW, however, I looked at it, sprayed it, and it just seemed WAY too dark, yet it matched up EXACTLY to the FS color chip, could the instructions have been THAT far off? Hmmm, so I looked at some of the Adversary F-16Bs that use this same color, but they seemed MUCH brighter, almost turquoise, just like the flanker. So I was confused, but then I held my painted part VERY close to my desk lamp light, and presto! It was that light blue/turquoise color on the SU-30 and F-16Bs. I guess we as modelers sometimes forget that pretty much all of our reference photos are taken OUTSIDE with the extremely bright light of the sun. Some of you have probably heard of the scale effect of paint, but what about the "sun effect?" I found that by trying to use some white for the scale effect, it also simulated the effect of more bright light, by bringing it closer to the light blue. Thoughts?
