FN1, Thank you very much for the detailed pictures, where would the panel be located in the cockpit?
-
You can upload images to http://imageshack.us/ or any other image hosting site and post the images here, it's fairly straight-forward, if you already have them scanned. Any images with the projector on and the control box would be extremely useful, as of matter of fact any new images with the SR-71A or any part of it is extremely useful, especially from an insider. Thank you again FN1 for your help. If you're gracious enough to look one page back I had an inquiry about those protruding finds, do you have any information on those? Thank you.

Hello FN1 and thank you very much for the reply, I checked your Wikipedia article on peripheral vision horizon display, very interesting apparatus, very innovative, I'm a bit curious to see if there are any pictures showing it working, in the article it is mentioned that the dim line of light was white (the concept demonstration), did this change for later variants or the light was still white? Also, I would love to see the control box, where it was located in the cockpit and possibly where the wire cluster that comes out of the PVD goes, I suspect to this control box. Thank you very much!

I'm not sure what part of the plane you're referring to, you mean the leading edges(chines)? As for reference I use only photos of the plane.

Hi Gabor, don't worry I visit this place almost daily, it's just that I have to work on other projects to pay the bills. Looking forward to your reference! Thanks.

Thank you very much Greywolf! At this point I'm focused on finishing it, it's still a long way to go but when I'm done I'll try and figure this 3D printing business out, it would be pretty neat to have the entire plane printed, if I'll manage to do so you guys will be the first to know! When I finish it I'll try to find a way to print it, you guys are very supportive and I'd like to repay fellow aircraft enthusiasts. Thanks Gabor! Meanwhile I finished the ASARS nose, the weirdest of the bunch. Now, unfortunately, I have to put the project on pause.

The rivets will be sunk in with displacement as previously mentioned, as well as giving the surface that rough/wavy imperfect look, this is afterall aimed to be a 3D model first, not a print model, meaning I'm not going to hold back on anything especially geometry since it's going to be rendered along with the scene. Some parts look faceted because I ran out of memory adding more SubD's in Zbrush to various parts, because I can't show the model in Maya without crashing I export everything into Zbrush (since it handles multi-million poly meshes - 25 in this case - much much better) and take sc

Hello Youngtiger and thank you for the reply, I'm trying to soak up as much info about this aircraft as I can, not only because I need it to do a correct model but more so because I'm passionate about it so if you have any info I'm all ears! I was looking at texturing it either as 61-7967 or 64-17960, depends which one I can find the most relevant pics of (various fuselage markings for example). Thanks again!

Hello Mart and thanks for the reply. I wouldn't say I'm that quick but thanks, I think I'm looking at 2000-2500 hours by the end of the project. (I intend on doing the Pilot/RSO as well, full engine and scenery: starter cart, hangar, runway, misc objects and personnel). As far as printing goes, polymeshes are also printable given that the model has no holes, see .At work and home I'm using only Maya and Zbrush (poly modeling and poly sculpting) and so far I think that's sufficient, Zbrush is a fantastic tool when it comes to organic modeling as nothing comes close to it although I haven;t b

Thank you! The bst part is yet to come, I plan on doing the engine internals aswell, but that's a long long way to go. Thanks! Hello Tony and thank you for clarifying this, I have a question about the PVD projector thought, when was it introduced and would a 'bird equipped with the PVD would also sport the datalink antenna(wart)? Also I have a question about these protruding "fins", there is one on the front side of the plane (only on the left side) and then there is one on each side further back right about where the wings start to flare out from the body, there is a "tube" with a curl

Thanks! Haha, thanks you Jay! Thank you very much. Thanks Shawn! I'm happy that you guys like it! Thank you, I am trying my best to reproduce this aircraft in minute detail, even down to correct rivet placement. I use Maya and a bit of Zbrush. Hello Tony and thanks for pointing that out, I had no clue of this PVD projector, of all 100 pictures of the canopy I have as reference none had this projector, not even the latest blackbirds that are currently in museums, did they remove it for some reason(still classified)? This is the first time I see it. I do have a question regar
