  1. It looks SOOOOO REAL great job :cheers:/> /Jesse
  2. Here things are all dry-fitted for show. I'm likin' it /> Things are pretty clean in most photos, so I really had to back off with the weathering... I feel that a "wash" is just too much for the gear bays. Phew! Now that the fine details are finished, I can start working on the front fuselage for a change of pace Obviously the real subject gear bay is a lot more complicated, but I think it's looking busy enough for me! I've also been taking some measurement for some custom decals, cuz I need to get the ball rollin' if I wanna do the 86-0186! Thanks everyone /Jesse
  3. Chuck, thanks for clarifying the "how to" tips on the Plexus cleaner. Great stuff :thumbsup:/> Thanks Marcel, it is VERY visible! Thanks for yer support John! I suppose I should introduce to you the subject that i will hopefully be modeling depending upon finding someone to make me some custom stickers... f-15ERJ145 from Z-5 worked on 86-0186 from 1998-2003. To make this story short, he was able to finagle the 333, 334, 335 & 336th squadron decals from the paint barn :thumbsup:/> Looks pretty bad to the bone IMHO! To start, according to the reference photo of 86-0186, it
  4. Hi Rob, you are much too kind. The reason is because I haven't taken the time to learn how to successfully spray it from my airbrush ;)/> I recently have been applying it with a hand brush for small parts, like cockpits, and it works like a charm.... However I am not brave enough to try it on the airframe! /Jesse
  5. Hey Andrew. I always leave about 1/32 to 1/16, I never cut the sprue off flush... There is a chance to cut the sprue a bit too flush and leave some undercut. First I use a hard file to take it down "flush" and I follow that up with a fine grit sanding stick or block. I'm sure there are other ways but this method works for me. /Jesse
  6. Wow guys! This stuff's da bomb :thumbsup:/> My Tamiya X-22 is now OBSOLETE... Thin with 91% alcohol, stuff sprays on like silk and looks like glass :woot.gif:/> /Jesse
  7. Thanks for the feedback Rex! I just noticed the water, propanols on the label.... I just mixed some up with 91% alcohol and it seems to have mixed pretty nicely.... I wanted to know before putting the stuff through my Badger Velocity AB! I looked up the definition of propanols : 1-Propanol is a primary alcohol with the formula CH3CH2CH2OH. This colorless liquid is also known as propan-1-ol, 1-propyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, n-propanol, or simply propanol. It is an isomer of isopropanol.... /Jesse
  8. I was wondering if anyone out there has thinned this product... The bottle states that it is a lacquer, but when I used my Mr. Leveling Thinner it just got really thick like paste. Furthermore, I thought that the "aqua" meant that it is safe to use on top of acrylics, which is why I'm confused about the "lacquer" label it carries... I'm sure it will spray just fine out of the bottle, but I typically like my paint mixtures thinner than say Alclad's primer which I do use lacquer thinner to thin without any problems. Any info would be appreciated and if I figure out a solution I will let you all
  9. Wow fantastic paint Andrew & great execution :thumbsup:/> I really dig the tinted canopy.... What's yer secret? /Jesse
  10. Magnificent "E" and gosh, the wings actually fold :jaw-dropping:/> SWEET! /Jesse
  11. Wow thanks for the inspirational photos Ken, I love the belly shot 78-0544, awesome stuff :woot.gif:/> /Jesse
  12. Thanks Janne, I am pleased that you approve! BTW I also wanted to thanks JohnS for helping me out with some great reference photos for the canopy frame :thumbsup:/> /Jesse
  13. Jeez Chuck, don't take this the wrong way, but i think yer modeling skills have improved since yer last build.... If that's possible. The hiding of the seams and reshaping the openings for the sponsons is just brilliant stuff man :thumbsup:/> The magnets, the liquid sprue, and yes these techniques have been around, but the detailed explanations are truly appreciated! The "hidden" magnet installation=genius :worship:/> I can see how much work it took for that wing, but man you've made leaps & bounds of progress in a short time... Sorry to hear about that foot of yers, and yes the last
  14. Thanks linus! Wish Ida had that photo yesterday... The guitar string woulda been a great idea man! But the way that my hose is displayed, is correct as well.... I have a good pic of this from Jake Melampy's Modern Eagle Guide pg. 19. I think yer photo is fairly recent since it has the JHMCS on the canopy rail so maybe the old hose is replaced with the corrugated hose. Either way thanks for the great shots :thumbsup:/>
  15. Here is the canopy frame painted and weathered. The top surfaces get quite dusty over the years... I carefully masked the surface that will attach to the canopy for strength. I don't really care for Tamiya's breakdown of the canopy sections, it just seems way too complex. Not really looking forward to gluing the clear part to this frame ;)/> I am satisfied with the outcome of the frame.... The weathering is a lot dirtier when viewing 1:1. Masked and painted the inner frame on the windscreen and canopy... This is as far as I will go since I will wait to glue the canopy and frame to
  16. Thank you linus for the kind word and the sweet reference links, it will come in very handy in the future! Thanks to you Marcel /> In-between jobs + snow + frigid cold = PROGRESS /> Decided to give my attention to the canopy frame... Here are the kit parts all glued together straight OOB. Not bad, but it could use a little help! I had to close that huge gap at the sides of the support bridge. Hopefully you can follow my simpleton terminology. I'm not sure if these are speakers or ducts, but I added some coffee filter mesh (thanks Chuck540z3) to the openings as well as the wire
  17. Marcel, the payload is phriggin' phantastic sir :worship:/> Great tip on drilling out the IP and backing it up with the Eduard dials, I think it will really add a lot of depth :thumbsup:/> /Jesse
  18. Lovely tarnished metal dude :thumbsup:/> Glad to have yer thread for reference :cheers:/> /Jesse
  19. Things are looking fantastic E :worship:/> I'm really surprised at the poor quality of mold from WP.... Really disappointing ;)/> Anyway, the consoles look amazing! /Jesse
  20. Thanks neighbor /> Just to clarify, the iridescent film is dipped in Future which is then placed onto the glass and that's it.... No glue required. Thanks Ken, I am happy with the results of the cockpit & I'm VERY happy that it's finished /> Hi Janne great to hear from you sir! It is sold at Michaels and Hobby Lobby in the US, which are like arts & craft supermarkets. It comes in a large roll, kinda like gift wrap.... /Jesse
  21. Thanks E... The close-ups really do keep us all in check ;)/> Thanks Steve! The iridescent film is sold at Michaels or Hobby Lobby in a roll, sort of like gift wrap. /Jesse
  22. Continued.... In this photo, the HUD glass is installed. I should say that this is my 2nd attempt at getting the iridescent film glued satisfactorily /> My first attempt I tried to use Tamiya thin cement to glue the film in place...... Bad idea!!! The HUD glass being rounded resulting in a wrinkly mess of film and melted glass /> I decided to just dip the film in Future and only glue the outside circumference of the film to the glass..... It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it especially when seeing it 1:1 rather than under a microscope /> So many purty color's at multi
  23. Here we go... Snow is flying like crazy outside, so I have a great excuse to spend time with my Mudhen :woot.gif:/> Finished up the sidewalls. I would normally spend more time on weathering, but this area will NOT be visible once the canopy is attached... For the flood lights, I used some bluish iridescent "oragami" paper that I found at Michael's last weekend. Great stuff and it comes in greenish, pinkish, bluish and yellowish :rolleyes:/> The wizzo's IP coaming is finished and installed. I also added the trim piece for the leading edge of the coaming. I opted NOT to super d
  24. Welcome to ARC Bill, thanks for sharing these builds! If Hornet's and Viper's are your game, then this is the place for you :thumbsup:/> /Jesse
  25. Thanks for yer kindness Torn! And welcome back to the hobby, looking forward to yer Super Hornet build. Thanks Mike, I hope this doesn't turn into one of those life long projects ;)/> I appreciate that Ken! Just checked out yer website, those are some stunning photographs :thumbsup:/> Thank you Clif :woot.gif:/> I think he's looking a little green, prolly a journalist :rolleyes:/> /Jesse
