  1. Here are 3 variations of my take on BMF/NMFs. They usually consist of 3 elements; Base metal finish ( highly relective or dull burnished) Reflected sky. Reflected earth element (including a defined horizon, based on surface reflectivity). I realize I could have reflected light off clouds, but for the sake of variety, I choose to reflect earth (or concrete in some cases). The fuselage shape and reflectivity has considerable influence on how these elements are rendered.
  2. I saw it back in '99 and was duly impressed with it. I'd seen pics of it in a magazine and did not think much of it 'til I'd seen it at the NMNA. Small images do not do it justice. Stephen
  3. Wade, Mark's work is 3D CGI models with texture mapped surfaces. Incredible and involved work, without question, But vastly different method from doing 2D profiles in PS or any other Raster Image paint program. His profiles are from his CGI models. He's a great all-around Artist. Tullis's work is in PS, on the other hand. You want to see nice profiles? http://www.markstyling.com I have issues with some of his shapes, but man, he's got some nice surface work done. Look at the burn panels & turkey feathers on the rear of his F-4s. Pete, It's looking really nice. Now make it shine
  4. Pete, Check out this website, it should explain alot; http://www.wacom-europe.com/index.asp Look at the Intuos, Graphire or even the Pen Partner I have 2 of these (I'm on my 2nd generation, too), the smaller 4x5, I carry with my laptop. They are pressure sensitive (256 levels) meaning the harder you press the greater the "ink" flows The tablet has a detection grid inside that has a resolution of 1024x768 so there is a smooth transition between grids, permitting near natural movement. They are available for both Mac or PC. I love 'em and find their use indespensible. Hth, Stephe
  5. Wade, Beaucoup thanks, I'll go download it. Should proove to be quite useful. Regards, Stephen
  6. ...but then again, alot of them are gray. Bill Patton's Mig killer
  7. And to go back on topic...***** Cat. See, they ain't all gray.
  8. Apologies to all if this looks like thread creep, but I won't drag this off topic too far. Andy, My wife and I run a Ferret Shelter/Rescue. We fill a void The Humane Society has created because, as a rule, The Humane Society does not normally accept Ferrets into their shelter network (there are some exceptions). It's a long story, but there are many ferret shelters that try to make up for this deficiency. We made a brochure on ferrets, called "Ferrets in a Nutshell" that featured this picture of a ferret's upper torso & head coming up out of a big walnut shell. I had digitally fr
  9. Checkout my website; http://www.stephenmudgett.com I'll post some stuff not added there yet, here, soon. Regards, Stephen
  10. Fredrick, I did quite a few sketches back then, but only saved a few. Col., I favored the ballpoint pen as my drawing tool of choice for many years. I still do like it for control of tonal variations in formal drawings. Sometimes you have to use what's available, too. On my last cruise ('82-'83) on the America all I had available for sketching was a grease pencil and lined paper. I have 6 of these pictures framed up on the wall, here, at present. (don't get me wrong, though, I had my Airbrush, Watercolors, Oils, brushes & 2 Canvas with me, too, and did use them).
  11. For Col. Its not all digital here, either. Digital illustration is more conducive to making prints For me, anyway. I was sitting outside of the AQ shop and was trying to get this down as the Sun was going down. The Sun won.
  12. Koen, Thank you. Your F-8 is real nice. I'll post some A-7Es soon. Wade, a good tutorial would take more time to do, than I have available, at the moment and I'd need to find out how to do screen captures first. You'd need a Graphic Tablet & Stylus (WACOM Intuos or something similar), too. You could use a mouse, alone, but it would kill your wrist eventually. I use both. Basically, I create an accurate (to me, anyway) profile line drawing, scan it in as 2nd layer (first layer is a opaque white layer). I start masking and airbrushing the fuselage profile on third layer, wings &a
  13. I Like the 3rd one down from the top. I actually like lo viz schemes prior to weathering. Cool lookin' birds.
  14. James, Thank you. All digital art of mine is done in Photoshop. It is the single best freehand illustration tool that I have found.
  15. Bernie Fisher's A-1E from his CMOH mission, sans ordnance. Happy Groundhog Day.
  16. Thanks all, for the fine words. More to come. Lots of nice artwork goin' on in here. Wade -Mustang looks sweet.
  17. Greets all, I did this Sunday night to honor a gentleman who has since passed on, Dieter Dengler. This is a profile of the A-1J Skyraider (BuNo.142031) he was flying when he was shot down over Laos on 1 Feb. 1966. He spent 5 months on the ground in, escaping & evading captivity. You can read his incredible account in "Escape from Laos" (1996 Presidio Press). or read his account over on http://www.abledogs.com Resized for your consideration.
