  1. Thank you all for the responses and information. I should have known that "MSIP II" is just marketing B.S. If anyone is interested: I am currently building the Great Wall F-15B/D and I am finding it to be an outstanding kit. Lots of detail and great fit of parts. I intend to submit a build article on it in a couple of months. I know it is a pricey kit (on my scale anyway), but I am definitely getting my money's worth in enjoyment and relaxation out of building it. I am confident that you will too.
  2. I am planning a build of the Great Wall 1/48 F-15C. I have a set of DACO decals for a Bitburg Air Force Base, Germany F-15C, but I don't know if these decals are appropriate for the model. Does anyone know if there were MSIP II F-15C's at Bitburg before it was closed. Also, the same decal sheet includes Spangdahlem F-15C's. Same question I guess: would the Spangdahlem Eagles be MSIP II? I may build two of these: one Ghost Gray Bitburg Eagle and one Mod Eagle Spangdahlem bird. Thanks for your help.
  3. Thank you Andre, that is pretty much the short and sweet of it. Marines, using boredom and ingenuity to bring a little taste of home to a far off land in a time of war. I must apologize, I think that I assumed that this story would just be new to me. Thanks again.
  4. On another forum, someone has suggested that this story may very well be a myth, but I have read many references to it on the 'ol net. I have sought detail information in a few places, with no luck. It looks like I'll be making this a What If-type project. Maybe someone can help me figure out a most likely answer to a few questions: I imagine that 5 gallon jerry cans would have been plentiful. If they used jerry cans, on what side would they most likely have mounted the propeller? On what inspection panel under each wing of the corsair would they likely have mounted the cans? (I have read tha
  5. I was researching a project recently when I stumbled upon the story of Operation Freeze and VMF-122 on Palau during WWII. Is anyone familiar with the details of the plane/s involved? Specifically - Where on the wings were the cans mounted? What kind of cans were used? 5 gallon buckets or Jerry Cans? Are there any photos available of the specific plane/planes? Did it carry any nose art? Thanks for your help.
  6. If I were to buy the new Academy 1/48 F-14K SLAM Eagle, will I be able to build an accurate and loaded American F-15E? It looks like the Korean version flies with different engines. I would replace those and use some decals I already have. Thanks for your help.
  7. So, any height except down to the floor would be correct? Thank you both for your replies. I am looking forward to building this very fine kit.
  8. I'm starting to build Revell's 1/48 F-15E model (the kit without the bombs, curse them!) and I'm a bit confused about the ejection seats. Why are the seat sides raised off of the cockpit floor with extensions? I tried a scale pilot figure in the seat and there is no way that the controls or rudder pedals could be reached by a scale pilot sitting in the seat of this model. I am considering cutting the extensions off of the seats, but I'm guessing that the seats would not sit high enough in the canopy. I've studied photos of the real thing, and it looks like the sides of the seat pan should bare
