  1. It needs a new nose! All the parts fit extremely well until I attached the nose. There is a very noticeable step between the nose and the fuselage. Multiple dry fittings proved that it could not be eliminated except with putty and sanding. But there goes the fine detailing and it is beyond my skill level to recreate it.
  2. Thanks Jennings for the prompt reply... it's not hard to confuse me... but your explanation was great. Now to the basement! Charlie L
  3. I'm ready to start applying the Fundekals P-51D/K Factory Stencil Data to my 1/32 Tamiya. But a question has arisen! The instructions say "All markings are readable when viewed from the leading edge." That statement leads me to believe that the wing stencils would be 180 degrees from what I usually do... up until now I apply the stencils so they can be read when the wing is positioned with the trailing edge closest to me. I hope this question is understandable... and my confusion can be cleared up... until the next time. Thanks to all in advance... Charlie L
  4. Thoughts and prayers for sure. Keep us informed of her progress please.
  5. Fantastic news for all of you. The treatment takes a tremendous amount out of her both physically and mentally... and all of you as well. Thoughts are prayers will continue as those months roll by.
  6. Check Linen Hill Imports. He carries a wide selection of Russian colors made by Akan. I have used a number of their colors on Mig's and am quite pleased. If you can't find the exact one you want, send him an email.
  7. Dana's book has been out for a couple of weeks. I have a copy and it is an outstanding publication. It is available from several sources, I got mine from Amazon... get one!
  8. What are the prevailing thoughts on the color of the bomb bays in combat B-17G's? I can find references that say they were all natural metal; or dull dark green with natural metal bomb racks; or all dark dull green; or some other green; and more. And, it may be that were multiple options and I could just pick one that I like!!! Many searches have led to no definitive answers and I obviously have looked in all the wrong places for authentic documentation and pictures. I'm sure this has been discussed multiple times, and I appreciate your taking time to read the post and for any responses.
  9. Is the Special Hobby 1/32 T-33 a reboxing of the Czech Model kit with different decals?
  10. How do you keep EZ Line from "looping" when you dip it in CA? I started using EZ Line for rigging on a WNW kit... when I dip the end of the line in CA before attaching to the model, the end of the line frequently loops... doesn't stay nice and straight... any suggestions? Regards, Charlie
  11. I noticed that MisterKit lists a WWI RAF Salamander Black paint. Does anyone know if this is the same color that was used on the RAF Night Bombers (i.e. Fe.2b's)? I appreciate your taking time to read this and for any insights. Regards, Charlie
  12. Sounds like Stupid 101 question... but it is leading to some spirited debate. Early 1960's.... USN "Utility" aircraft... i.e. C-45... some were white with major red areas on the wings, tail, cowls, etc. What red was it? I have proposed Insignia Red, but it was deemed to be too dark by crewman who were there... Suggestions appreciated. Regards in advance, Charlie
  13. I've been asked to build a Navy WV-2 (USAF EC-121) for a veteran. I have obtained the 1/72 kit and work has begun. I asked him about the finish on the aircraft in his squadron. He said they were overall gray, but does not remember which gray. Best guess was "medium gray!" I have done several photo and text searches but cannot come up with a valid reference. Anyone out there that knows which gray was used? I have seen several pictures that show a very dark gray finish, but he insists it is not the overall gray that his squadron used. I know this is kind of general, there may have been s
  14. I'm sure the answer has been posted before, but darn'ed if I can find it! What was the width of the yellow tips on the B-17G props? Big thanks to those who read and potentially respond to this! Charlie
  15. I have found several photos of the inside of a F-18F exhaust. (Photos of the petals are clear, it's the surface leading back to the blades that is the problem.) I am still a little confused about the actual colors and am hoping that the answer is here! It appears that the inside is black, with the protruding "ribs" a white or creamy color? Any help will be appreciated...and thanks to all of you for reading or responding. Charlie
  16. I'll wait a couple of days and see if they pick up on this post. Thanks for your reply. Charlie
  17. Does anyone know how to contact Olimp Models? I have tried for two weeks to contact them using the email address posted on their web page, but all attempts are returned as undeliverable. TIA Charlie
  18. When the going gets tough the tough get going! An experience no one really wants to go through, but thanks for the dedication and effort.... we're glad you're back. Charlie
  19. I have not be able to find a definitive answer...Help! The movable parts of the B-17G Rudder and Elevator... where they fabric or metal? The molding on the Revell 1/72 parts look like fabric covered ribs. However, some reference material says metal. Thanks in advance ..... really! Charlie
  20. I apply the decals right over the lozenge decals and have had no silvering problems.
  21. Does anyone know how far the wing walk (along fuselage) extended? Did it extend all the way forward to the leading edge? TIA.... the instruction sheets don't help! Charlie
  22. Check the instructions that came with the decals... page 2... just above the picture of the aircraft. It references the decals to use "as per E" which is the aircraft pictured on the back page. A careful check will show which crosses to use, etc. I.E. top left wing, decals 2 and 3. I'm right behind you on the build..... Charlie
  23. Great picture and it is Insignia Red! There is a picture of LMM later in the war and the paint has faded to a near pink color. Only one I've ever seen with that degree of fading, but I'm sure it wasn't the only one!
  24. I have been searching for a reference that species the red color used on the tails of the 8th AF B-17's. I assume that Insignia Red would be the most likely ... but no specific references have been found. Any information or suggestions are welcome! Regards, Charlie
  25. I would appreciate any comments on how "metallic" the Mr Metal Color and Mr Color Super Metallic paints are. Alclad works well for me.... sometimes. Tamiya apray works well... but has to be decanted. So, I am hoping that these paints provide a solid, easy to use replacement. TIA Charlie
