  1. I have a book on the Thunderbirds and a reprint of an article in Replica in Scale. The book is `Diamonds in the Sky A pictorial history of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds' by C.A.Knotts and Pete Moore. The F-4E is interesting as there were camouflage Thunderbirds when the F-4s arrived, in SEA scheme with a scallop on the fin cap and their numbers on the intake in a white circle. Also as the Finemolds kit scheme is when they were in West Germany no wing tanks are provided with the same scallops as the nose. There was a belly tank as well but was it painted blue ? Also another interesting fact is that they changed the font style of the numbers from Gothic to Clarendon in 1971.

Regarding the changes to the F-4E from the book,

`This included the removal of a number of radar and weapons computer units and aft control stick (Finemolds shown it incorrectly). Additions to the F-4E....The instrument panel and control stick were altered, and a number of navigation panels were moved to the forward cockpit.'

  2. Hi Rob, the cutaway drawing had been stapled inside so is at the beginning and is folded up. The scale (?) drawings which are also folded up are at the end of the colour section and beginning of the black and white section. I wonder is someone had removed them ?

  3. I have the Japanese publication Koku-Fan dated August 77, Vol.26 No.9. It has a picture montage from when it landed at Hakodate Airport on the 6th Sept, being surrounded and inspected by people. It was covered in a very large orange sheet and the insignia and number was covered over with paper. It was then moved to a corner of Hakodate Airport then an hanger was constructed around it. The wing and tail fins were removed, awaiting collection by a C-5 to take it to Hyakuri AB. There are also black and white pictures of the MiG-25 flying over Hakodate probably going to the airport. Also in the magazine there is a cutaway drawing and plans to 1/100. Interesting is that on the back page Hasegawa shows a MiG-25.

    Regards

    Robert
