  1. Are you still in? Worked A though S models 16 years Crew Chief, Engines and 4 years Crash Recovery. Where were you stationed? Retired a bit ago, worked Mudhens at the Heath A,B,C,D Langley, Kadena and Elmendorf, I and S model at the Heath and I model with JASDF. Cheers
  2. The Imodel has chaff and flare mods under the tails just aft of the CFT. Pretty much the exported E model externally, minor differance a but not noticed in 1/48.
  3. USAF E's had a variation of antennae shapes on the stinger early on in production. It would not be weird to see variation from jet to jet, even the C/D models had variations, same would apply to the upper and lower UHF antennae variing between the normal blade and shark fin blade antennae. When a jet is on the schedule the next day you install what stock is available.
  4. Why do they paint the area under the Speedbrake white? It's not white as it is part of the upper fuselage skin, not a well.

I am not too sure on the fit but from what I have seen on my set they are no better then the ones that come in the ProMonoVells F-15E model kit, I was going to use them on that kit and found they were no better. GWH's featherless nozzles from what I have seen have pretty nice detail, why not just use the kits with the Eduard details added?
  6. Can I ask why did you mutilate the E model by cutting out the wheel wells? Level out the main gear doors would of sufficed.
  7. Wings markings on the 57th birds varied but yes they were reversed on the jets so the eagle was always facing forward. But with all tail markings like the 1st TFW's "Eagle in bondage" it was painted on one day when the higher brass did not like it and had it painted off! Egland's, Kadena's, Elmendorfs, Tyndall, Nellis and Bitburgs stuck IIRC. It does seem to become more common currently but I can't recall too many Wings having the internal tail markings, might of missed one but the F-15 world was small back then.   8. Here's two more of the nose on my jet to show you the contrast when I had the compass ghost gray paint darkened slightly .
  9. Even the camo wasn't standard to an extent, you have a vast variation on the basic compass and mod schemes, you would to look at individual aircraft to notice this. Especially on the nose and tails demarcation lines varied somewhat according to who or what shift painted it and timeframe of the aircraft. This is me with my jet prior to going to desert shield, notice the different tone.
  10. Tha academy kit has too many shape issues. Take a look between the engine humps and aft of the speed brake in the pictures? The fuselage on the real Eagle looks nothing like that. There are other things like the JFS exhaust too far aft, ECS secondary heat exchanger exhaust behing the cockpit too pronounced etc.... For $72 there is better out there!
  11. There was a 1:48 Revell kit, first F-15 on the market, it had a short speed brake and I remember it was Mildred in blue. Could try and find one if those allot of work though!

  13. Yes, I agree the GWH kit is the best and most accurate on the market but it is the most modern moulding so it better be for the cost. Don't throw away your Hasegawa kit, it still a nice and fairly accurate kit, although coming up on 30 years old. Avoid the Academy kit, shape problems out weigh it's cheaper cost, I sat on my jet in Korea when it was released and compared it to my jet , yes it's that bad! Monogram is still good in accuracy but it's showing its 36 year old molds, but it is an A model not a C. Tamiyas 1/48 is not bad but very old and an A model as we'll, I have seen this made up i
  14. Depending on the toning affect YOU want, go with Gray for less harsh tone or black for a harsh tonal differance that would you like.
  15. Back in the day of compass ghost Gray even the Mod Eagle scheme the paint wasn't regulated so every jets paint scheme could be lighter or darker depending on the mix done by hand. We use to have our jets painted different so they would stand Out in the pattern so we knew when our jet was returning from a sortie. Paint was mixed by hand so expect some variation. An FS number is not the do all said all and final absolute color tone.
  16. This is the scheme this jet had prior to 1991, she receive the Mod Eagle scheme when she went to Kim Hae for MISIP. Prior to MISIP Kadena jets wore the Compass Ghost Gray scheme. I worked on this jet around that time when we had Operational readiness inspections. My jet in the 67th was 78-0479 during this time and was the last to recurve the Mod Eagle scheme. We could get our paint darkened or lightened to make our jet unique by slipping paint shop a case when our jet was in the barn.

  18. Yes just doors were white, wells were metallic green.. I remember when I would hook up the hydro cart or test stand I would get Green metallic flakes of paint and n my gloves.

  20. Aft doors that were exposed when gear was down was painted gloss white.
  21. When I worked the E demonstrator it had the same orange sealant around the istrumentation, must a McAir test anti vibration thing.
  22. There was pictures on Test Club Warehouse with the Lakenheath Eagle that augured in in September 2000 that was my last Crash Recovery before I retired. . Murph sent me pictures of the same aircraft with a new nose section attached to the old aft airframe, it flew 2 years after the incident.
