  1. Welcome to the club, J. Sadly, I moved last August and the stash is still packed. The kits on top are what I've added since the move. Still working on getting a workshop set up downstairs, but the damn sequences keep holding things up. Hope the move goes smoothly!
  2. Looks great. I really like the drawers. Did you take apart a tool chest for those?
  3. Wow, nice ride. Thanks for sharing it via that great write-up and the pics.
  4. Way to stick with a difficult project. You are doing a seriously amazing job of it.
  5. Pfft, snakes. Me, I hate dogs & cats. Awful creatures, carrying disease, destroying property, not to mention injuring and even killing people. I get disgusted and fearful just looking at them and will kill them every chance I get.
  6. (spoiler below) I did enjoy the finale (and the whole six years of the show), but I also left feeling a bit like I'd read a thousand-page mystery novel only to find that the last page was torn out. But the fact is, they left it open for a sequel. Hurley & Ben's tenure as caretakers of the island would be a huge well of additional stories. Plus it would give the opportunity to answer unresolved questions. Of course that would make sense, so there's no way they'll do it.
  7. Most probably it'd be my Italeri 1/48 DC-130, not because it's particularly rare or valuable (though it's not exactly common or cheap), but because I'm kind of planning it to be a magnum opus of sorts. I have the OOP Cutting Edge Pinocchio nose for it and have laid out a sheet of custom decals for ol' #497 from VX-30 (pix here - scroll down), which had been flying for 50 years when it was delivered to AMARG in 2007. Plans are to build out the interior to include scratchbuilding the drone-control stations, update/accurize (?) the engines (somebody resin this up, pleeeeeeze! ), and get or make
  8. Well I thought that other thread was a bit short for the number of metalheads in here. "Looks like Dime, Randy, Cliff and Bonzo just scored the ultimate singer." - Mike Portnoy (and Frank Frazetta can do the album cover) RIP RJD \m/
  9. Actually, a quick Google for How to get jet fuel smell out of clothes provides this page which suggests soaking the clothes in boat bilge cleaner, which apparently emulsifies petroleum products so they are easily washed out. ;)
  10. Strictly speaking, anything that smells is volatile, meaning it will evaporate. Leave the clothes out in the sun for an extended period and the smell will eventually go away. Of course extended and eventually are the key words here :) I've no idea what the half-life of Jet-A might be.
  11. That's a whole bunch of awesome Kudos for sticking it out and getting it done. It really does look great.
  12. I'd think you would want to go with the 1/48 scale tags to keep the width. You can trim the length to fit if needed, or even do things like wrap them around struts & pitots to take up the extra length. I've also seen the free ends of RBF tags tucked into access panels to keep them from flapping around.
  13. I'm using a CH Combatstick 568 with my new Mini :) . Awesome feeling stick. Had it for years. Works OK on the new system but since CH doesn't officially support the Mac anymore* I can't reprogram the buttons. This hasn't been an issue yet as I can live with the default bindings so far (but now I'm looking at the USB Overdrive app :) ). I've used it with F/A-18 OIF and the Google Earth sim without issue (though it's darn touchy with GE). I have X-Plane but the disc is still packed in a box somewhere from the move so I haven't installed it. HTH *edit: they do "support" the Mac platform. The
  14. Hol-ee carp  Unbelievable. Awesome work, sir.
  15. Everything about this is just so utterly cool. Mark
  16. That actually sounds like a neat idea. I'd think 1/144 (models 9" - 13" long) would be the best idea as then one could collect all five boats and still display them on a single normal shelf. Maybe send in proof-of-purchase for all five and get the water display stand that would fit all of them. I'd personally like to see one done in 1/48 (in the 30"+ range) with a ton of detail and figures that could actually be somewhat recognizable as the crewmembers. I would so put a 2 1/2 foot Time Bandit on my mantle. Mark
  17. Nice looker there. I hear the canopy on that kit is, well, uncooperative at the rear. It looks pretty straight from what I can see. Ya done a good jerb Mark
  18. Not much help with the jet noise, other then this recording I did of a C-5 on final throttling-up just as it passes overhead. Pretty neat even if it won't work for your carrier display. Although that might make for an interesting carrier approach… There are quite a few sites out there that have recordings from radio scanners of myriad types of military air stuff. Just Google for "milcom recordings" and that should keep you busy for a while. Mark
  19. No electrical expert by any means, but my guess would be that your 6V power supply is actually putting out less than 6V. The 800MA requirement of the lamp tells how much current that it draws. Having more than 800 (in your case 1000) simply means that your supply can give more than the lamp wants to take, no problem. If a supply is rated less than the appliance it's hooked to, then you wind up with the supply overheating as it tries to deliver more current than it's capable of. If you have access to a voltmeter you can check that the supply is in-fact putting out 6 Volts. Mark
  20. Absolutely stunning, could easily pass for the real thing. Nice work Mark
  21. I've got one of the DC-130's in the stash and would love to have more aftermarket for it (I'm lucky enough to have one of the old CE Pinocchio noses for it already ). IMHO, the first things that are needed are basic corrections and general details, so my votes go for the nacelles and interior, with the engine correction being waaaay out in front. Mark
  22. Pretty impressive work there, Motty. Both builds are technically very well done and the additions on the AF bird worked out beautifully. I really like the job you did on the stores; that's one of my weak areas so It's a help to see well done examples. Mark
  23. They're pretty cool n, but they look a bit too close to for me to ever try eating one.
  24. Let's see, I've played alto sax since 6th grade, french horn I picked up in high school concert band, and bass guitar (& a bit of upright) was learned for fun at about the same time. I still fart around on the bass & sax, at least I did pretty regularly until my instruments (and my MIDI keyboard) were stolen in a burglary a year or so ago. The only thing I have left is a Native American style flute that's pretty fun to noodle with. I've lately been considering picking up a duduk to learn on though, because I've never learned a double reed, plus they sound so cool.
