  1. Sweet! You nailed it I really like the dramatic lighting in your photos, too. It's a nice change from the standard "catalog" shots normally seen.
  2. From Jennings' drawing, that might just be close to what Trumpeter did. The D-model tail is a bit taller and wider than the C's in just about the same areas that Trumpeter's tail is incorrect. The D also has a much larger rudder and the trailing fairing is moved up because of that and is larger.
  3. PM sent. That was actually my next alternate choice.
  4. Oooh, that's a beauty Definitely a cool subject, and executed quite nicely. :)
  5. Surprised nobody has mentioned the Revell Strike Eagle in 1/48. It's got everything you need in the box and makes one heck of an impressive model. As a bonus, it's actually reasonably priced as well.
  6. Lets see if I can toss a bit o' confusion into the mix… Not always the left door. Looking through my pics I found some on the right, some on the left, some with none, and I can't be totally sure, but this one looks like both doors might have the cutout. Also, here's a detail shot of an A model reserve bird on display. On the port door there seems to be a cutout in the framing which might create a weak spot, prone to damage. More interestingly, the starboard door looks to be dented in that same area, with some interesting wear markings on the outer surface. This leaves me wondering if som
  7. That looks great; a really good scheme for an eggplane. Now you only need eleven more for a proper dozen.
  8. There are really too many variables to easily do it in your head. Try this nifty little program to print out your own calculators you can keep in your camera bag. Or you could just buy a camera that has a DOF preview button.
  9. What can I say, it could pass for the 1:1 aircraft. Masterfully done, sir.
  10. You've done an awesome job on the build, definitely something to be proud of. The metal finish looks great. I love the idea of including a small piece of the real aircraft in the build, too. The base design really does add a nice finishing touch to the whole display, great execution there. I'm guessing that the type & graphics are laser etched?
  11. Good question. Dunno. Maybe the CC just links his hands and gives the GIB a boost up. :)
  12. Pretty darn impressive job you've done there . The gloss finish is absolutely gorgeous. I think I'd have torn out what's left of my hair trying to get that red stripe consistent.
  13. Cool painting. I'd guess that'd be a rendition of the Jericho raid?
  14. Thanks for the explanation, Harv. Makes more sense to me now.
  15. Nice demo, thanks. I tried EasyOff once but I had simply coated the model and let it sit in a bag overnight then scrubbed/rinsed. I had less than stellar results. Good to see how it's properly done.
  16. That's darned sharp. It'd certainly make a good-looking model. I wonder, since VFA-125 isn't an adversary squadron, what is the purpose of a scheme like this? I'm thinking it could be to try out new potential schemes for combat units (this one might work well in the Afghan mountains), or do they just do it because it looks really, really cool?
  17. Looking good so far. Nice work on the interior with the mods & additions.
  18. No worries about cleaning the brush. With Tenax being a solvent rather than a "glue", it simply evaporates. There can be some residue left after it's gone (not sure whether that's from the Tenax, the bristles, or plastic from the model), but a quick wipe will generally get rid of it. RedHeadKevin has the best solution though. The Touch-n-Flow is the single best thing to happen to my modeling since ARC.
  19. Never done it, but I would guess that one of two things would happen. It could simply create a barrier layer, preventing subsequent coats from adhering properly, and probably making them crack or craze. Or it could be melted by the solvents when the next coats are applied, turning your finish into sticky goo. If you really want an ultra-smooth finish for decals, a well-applied solvent-based gloss coat and polishing (MicroMesh, Novus, etc.) can't be beat. Having said that, Future is still the easiest way by far. It does react badly to some things, but not many. It'd be worth it to do a test
  20. Welcome to the funhouse . Drinks are on you today. I'll have a vodka tonic. There is the Hasegawa Ground Crew Set A. Tamiya has a Willy's Jeep and a new Humvee. Check out Quarter Kit in Paris who carry a whole slew of 1/48 stuff. Most of it is fairly toylike, but O-scale model railroad accessories are at least the right size and might give a good starting point for you to add some detail. You're probably stuck scratchbuilding the buildings & shelters, though.
