  1. Welcome back Jon. 1:1 scale beats all! Looking forward to your updates.
  2. Affirm on that BrittMac, Redstone. I imagine the staff wanted to show the varied load out possible for display purposes. I agree and have to say this AH-1S MOD is actually looking better than their other AC and certainly better than that poor old B model Huey on their water survival station for the cadets. (The B has both sighting stations present. Old gunship rotting away) Whiskey, here are the pictures of the HSS - Helmet Sight Subsystem as best as I could get. I was not able to coordinate with their director to unbutton the canopy or they would be better. Still
  3. Not all of the cockpit floor was non-skid black. These screen grabs are from the 20 August 1972 rescue of Captain Gerald Lawrence when he was later assigned to his second tour in Vietnam to pilot QU-22 reconnaissance aircraft and was shot down over the Ho Chi Minh Trail in August of 1972 . Major Gerald J. "Jerry" Lawrence passed away 28 July 2012 at 69. RIP hero. As DonS33 attempted to point out Vietnam cockpit colors were fairly standardized. Cockpit floor, showing the mix of FS dark gull gray and black non skid. Note the instrument panel is Dark Gull Gray with black
  4. Thank you for the responses. Yes masters is what I meant, not molds. Not afraid of the challenge to correct and hopefully Mike will cast the set for me. I'll reach out to Mike. It's a special project for a veteran. Also Mike does have much more available now at LSM which is good news for us all! Thanks Chris also for your excellent work. It's a pretty big compliment people are still after your work.
  5. Long shot but who dares, wins! Casting a wide net to see if anyone has this in their stash. I know Chris stopped producing it before he quit the business and I doubt Lone Star has the molds of this. Plus he barely has any of Cobra Company's stuff up on his website anyway. Trade or buy outright. Thanks for any help in getting this.
  6. One of the great things about the forums is the search function for the archives. I've always been interested in 'The Quiet One' which brought me here. I picked up this Central Press Association/UPI photograph this week from April 9th 1971. The original caption reads "The Hughes Tool Co. announced 4/8 it has developed the world's quietest helicopter on a hush-hush basis. The firm said military security prevented disclosure of the precise extent of the noise reduction in the modified Army OH-6A Light Observation Helicopter (Shown during testing), but said high-ranking Defense Dept.
  7. I can go back and get them. I ran out of time unfortunately.
  8. This one is located at Aviation Challenge part of the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. Definitely is taken care of better than some others out there. Sure is a looker!
  9. Pictures are too large to post, 5312 x 2988, but this is an original AH-1G that got the AH-1S Mod. If anyone wants more images, weapons stores - Hellfire, Stinger, TOW, 19 shot pod, tail fin, etc. just message me. I can go back to get more. I ran out of time and was not able to complete the walk around however this is really a gem. http://feldzeitung.blogspot.com/2018/09/blog-post.html
  10. No it would not just be Insignia Red - Print Scale's chip for that particular time frame should be the earlier Federal Standard color code used in 1958 which is FS 28915 not FS 28913. Here's a chip from fluorescent yellow -orange '915' to fluorescent red-orange '913 to International Orange '197' by year/s. Factory fresh versus Sun fading and weathering will enhance or reduce all these which always leads to more hoopla about what color is 'closer'. What doesn't change is the years of use. International Orange is further broken down into different shades for Aerospace or Engineering
  11. Hi Ian, No they are different. The Apache uses the Michelin AVIATOR Tire 15X6.0-6 TUBE-TYPE NSN 26200110015087 while the Blackhawk uses the Michelin AVIATOR Tire 26x10.0-11TUBE-TYPE NSN 2620011373398. Goodyear is also flown. This is for Main Landing Gear Cheers!
  12. You could probably scratch a lot of what you need to do a conversion from the extras in the box using the wing stubs and external fuel tanks or a sprue graveyard if you have one. Just for grins let's not leave out the MH-60K circa 2001 Or how about this oddity at Farnsborough 1990 - Z9468 from my archive
  13. The first link posted shows the early pop out flotation bags that mounted via screws the full length of the skids. Those obviously differ from the later flotation bag equipped skids for the 206. Kudos to Dutch for including the Long Ranger from the classic John Carpenter film The Thing 1982 showing the full floats. Here's a better image I scanned from an old Starlog.
  14. You can use Werner's Wings 1/48 UH-60 Platypus Nose and modify the nose bracket for your USAF UH-1N.
  15. Cobra Company made the correction set for the Fujimi AH-1J to make it a G model. Worth it in my book. Lone Star Models might have it since he bought Cobra Company's molds. Not listed as available on his website though if you email him he will make it. Speaking of Aurora, DO NOT get the Hobby World AH-1G in 1/48 or Fujimi's release of it. As mentioned above it's a very poor kit, bad fit, wrong in so many ways.
  16. Thanks Ray for clearing that up for me. Dan did say he drew a Miss Piggie on another D. I've ypdated my text file for this OP. Charlie I do have the other images Dan had posted as they were unique. Hopefully Dan will hop on to help. They aren't available in the other thread for some reason. I'm not sure how he feels about me posting his images or if they were pulled for possibly another reason.
  17. Looking forward to more progress images but then always am when your building Charlie. I empathize with you on the reason for building. It's what a wise one at the VA suggested to me as well. All images courtesy Dan 'Dangerpig 13' McClinton -- Just for clarification from the reference I built out when these first were shown, I thought Danger Pig and Arnold 347 were two different ships.
  18. Yeah they swapped the tail and maintenance hadn't painted it yet. Here's another in-country image 15th MED Phuoc Vinh with a zinc chromate tail. Mission tempo dictates. Here's a patchwork UH-1H from the 145th AHC from HAWK Magazine published in Vietnam sporting an interesting tail after a swap The slide Rod posted was from a series taken at CCAD between Aug-Dec 1975. From my collection -> Note the black mast on the right ship and the center ship, DELTA CAC IV 69-15716 painted in ICCS red stripes is in the intermediate between FS 34087 and the later C
  19. There is one on ebay this week, Muskets box art, 1994 release for $35 buy it now. Wish MRC had realized their Seawolves version. https://www.ebay.com/itm/MRC-UH-1C-Huey-Gunship-1-35-Scale-Model-Sealed-Contents-Open-Box-Kit-No-BA104/113088499583?hash=item1a54998f7f:g:LlYAAOSw2FVbLEgM If you do follow Rod's link note the doofus who built the Revell display of this kit mounted the stab bar beneath the 540 rotor head. You would think if Revell Germany was going to announce their kit this way they would've corrected that basic error. Also, if it's Revell Germany expect it to
  20. Love this kit ( I have 12 in all boxings) but love what you did with it more. Right up there with Mustang-6. The floor mic switches, the drain gang, loaded flex chutes, all electrical wiring for the M134s, rooftop lights, ground points, VHF antennae on the roof, custom bulkhead, and so much more. Just a superb build!
  21. Yes the transmission and engine compartments were chromate green overall as were the insides of the butterfly doors that provided engine access but not everything in there was. Here on my picture of an engine swap on a UH-1H in Vietnam you can see the engine mounts are also chromate green as was the bulkhead. The vertical separators that isolated the engine from the transmission, intake, and exhaust were gull gray with the exception of the forward most which is chromate green. In my image you can see this ship had an unpainted zinc chromate green mast. You can sometimes find various components
  22. Janman, If you're interested I created a .pdf document of Ray's post before Photobucket went Workers Party on their service platform. All the images are there. Just PM me. snake36bravo, Out.
  23. Thanks for the ID on the aircraft seats. I had wondered about those seats for a long time. The whole radio room package slid in which you can see in that image sits above the cabin floor. I wont bore anyone with pictures of the radios or receivers. The EH-1H and current EH-60A/L aircraft are the end product of Project Left Bank. Project Left Bank communications intercept helicopter 'The Ugly' - 371st Radio Research Company, ASA ADF - 1969 image from Col Yates 371st Radio Research Company 'The Good' ASA ADF Left Bank 1968-69 Phuoc Vinh, RVN image from Bob H
  24. That is technically not correct but the 195th Thunderchickens and Ghostriders did as stated. When the 195th AHC stopped the practice I dont know. Not to split hairs but given the unique sound signature of the Huey any of them flying over the wire would let someone know something was up. If the POS mole in MACV-SOG hadn't given it away already the sound of those blades sure would. No special paint job needed. A troop 3/17 CAV also had SEA camo and of course 20th SOS 'Green Hornets' though the large majority of these were all gunships whereas the 195th had both slicks and guns in SE
