  1. Looks great Lucien. I've been thinking about picking this one up for quite a while. Pretty ambitious for someone who's never built a WWI a/c huh? (I'll start small first). How much experience do you have with these aircraft? Roden's Staaken is intriguing too, I think after this one you could do a nice job on that one also.
  2. Are there any sites that contain cutaway drawings of WWII a/c (particularly Navy fighter/bombers)? I'm trying to get my hands on some pics that show internal rib structures of flaps on wings and stabs for planes such as Wildcats, Hellcats, Avengers or Dauntless. Were all of these surfaces fabric?
  3. I plan to build a dio of a US Navy bird (probably a Dauntless, Avenger or Corsair) resting at the bottom of the sea. As the a/c would have been there for a while it will be encrusted in organisms and the organic material will have been eaten away. Can anyone point me towards good references which show exposed ribbing structures such as flaps in this type of plane? I'm no expert and would prefer not to 'wing it' (intentional bad pun). Also if anyone can suggest a good method to replicate a build-up of crustaceans etc. it would be most helpful. I have some ideas but am always open to ot
  4. Anyone know if this is out yet? Heard it might be a re-box of an Eduard kit.
  5. Sure, now I see Hasegawa has an eggplane Hughes 300 in 1/48. GRRR!!
  6. Does anyone manufacture a 1/48 Schweizer 300 (as Cousteau used)?
  7. Eduard PE set for Tamiya's Flak 38 2cm AA. Great detail, think I'll finally have to break down and get a Hold-and-Fold or Etchmate.
  8. That's awesome! Hopefully they can kep the company going. Wonder if they'll bring the horror/torture series back, that fell victim to the PC mom crowd years ago.
  9. Might also wanna try www.starshipmodeler.com .
  10. Anyone recommend a solvent that will clean 5-min epoxy without marring the surface? I used some to tack crown molding in place temporarily on top of my kitchen cabinets before adding PL Premium. Got a bit of seepage on the upper edge of the cabinet (laminate, not solid wood) and I don't want to harm the surface. Thanks.
  11. Hey, those are my Batmobiles! Yeah, it was a great show, well worth the drive from T.O.
  12. Looks like a nice job! But what isn't ultra-rare on eBay these days?

    Vulcan Diorama

I haven't lit an A/C but did do a fully-lit '89 Batmobile which turned out very well (if I do say so myself) and still works 8 years later, so I feel somewhat qualified to answer. First of all, there's nothing to be afraid of with fibre optics. Treat them with care, be sure not to kink or bend at too sharp an angle. Check for chipping when you cut the FO. The smoother the ends are the better they will disburse light. I recommend filing the tip then buffing with progressively finer grades of paper or polishing cloths. Finish with an app of Future. They can be put in place with either C
  14. Terrific job, love the weathering! How big is the base, it must be HUGE!

    Oishi's A-4E

Truly a spectacular bird, what I aspire towards with my a/c builds. Well done Oishi!
  16. Mini Art Studio 1/35 Land Wasser Schlepper. Okay, so it came by Fed Ex from Hong Kong, not post. Won it on eBay for a stupid amount of money on Monday, paid shortly after, shipped on Wednesday and I received it today. Gotta love it. I've been wanting this one for years!!
  17. Great work!! Some of the finest cockpit detailing I've seen, love the finish overall.
  18. No trouble Peter. If you can get your hands on the FSM magazine I'm sure you'll find it helpful.
  19. Damn that was fast, thanks! I had a bunch of reference pics bookmarked on the Schweizer, didn't save them and they're now 404. Anyway I just want to do something to fill the interior and look close to any pics I can get, doesn't have to be 100% accurate. Hopefully won't be too much difference between 1/45 and 1/48.
  20. Peter, I did some digging for you 'cuz I've always liked this helo. Try the walkaround (helicopters) section on ARC, there are a few juicy interior shots there. Also try: www.helispot.com search under Sea King, I'm sure if you look enough you'll find some. There was also a terrific article in the May '98 FineScale Modeler magazine with a build-up by Derek Brown. Had some great shots of some super-detailed equipment he made for the rear interior. Perhaps if you check around you can find a copy; if you're really desperate, someone is selling the entire '98 collection on eBay right now. T
  21. I'm building the Billing Boats Calypso ship (1/45 scale). Comes with a rather basic helicopter which, from my research, looks like a Schweizer 300C. I read that someone had adapted a cockpit from a 1/48 Hughes 500; anyone have references for these machines?
  22. I've haven't built a WW1 era kit in about 25 years, but recently I've taken a liking to the DH2. Wondering what the best kit of this A/C is, and how well it goes together (taking into account I've been modelling for about 35 years). Thanks.
  23. Thanks for the advice everyone, great pics!! I was wondering exactly where the supports would attach now I have a better idea.
