I'm sorry if this has been asked before. The search function isn't great, and my search skills are weak. I got the Revell F-14A kit to build Maverick's Top Gun fighter. I'm part way through construction, and the parts fit is apalling. It's going to take an immense amount of bondo and sanding to make this kit display worthy. I'm throwing in the towel on it. I'm here to ask for recommendations on alternative kits. I don't like the price of the Tamiya kit. Is the Academy kit any good? My second choice would be the Hasegawa kit. Any comments on the quality of these kits?

I need another one, if anyone has one to spare. I'm building Maverick's f-14, and it doesn't come with Goose (revell) :)

I'm looking for a modern fighter pilot in 1/48 scale, to put in Revel F/A-18. It doesn't come with one, and I'm hanging it from my son's ceiling. Would look better if someone was actually flying it. :)

I am currently building the revell F-15C Eagle. I think the air intakes on Navy planes are white. How about Air Force planes? Should I paint the intakes white or gray?

Does the Revell F-16 Thunderbird come with a second set of decals? I looked at the instructions on their website, and it shows decals for 316th Air Division. Does anyone know if the kit comes with that set as well, or just the Thunderbird decals?

I've had much trouble finding the answer to this question. I'm building a B-17G, with natural metal finish. I understand that the control surfaces were fabric covered. How was the fabric finished on bare aluminum aircraft? Did they get silver paint or gray paint or?

I got most of the lines scribed on the upper fuselage, and decided to put it together to fill seams before scribing the bottom. I'm only going to scribe the outside of the bottom fuse. The very bottom won't be visible, and I'm getting so tired of scribing. I cut the fuse pieces off the intake trunks to help ease gap filling. I'm not going to put intake covers on. I added a panel inside the intake air bleeds. It's not accurate, but it blocks the gaping void of the entire inside fuse. It probably won't be very visible anyways. It will be difficult to fill the seams inside the intakes, but it loo

We're having a drought/heat wave, and it's been too hot to work out in the shop. I haven't really done too much else. I did make a Goose and a Maverick, and I put the cockpit together. I got the GRU7 seats for it. The details aren't very good, but I did what I could.

I added the speed holes to the ladder. I decided to leave the rungs, they don't look that bad. I opened up the wells for the steps. I had already sanded off the raised panel lines, so I wasn't sure exactly where to put them. I kind of guesstimated their locations. It looked like the RIO's step was slightly higher than the pilot's, but I think I put it a little too high. Oh well, pretty close anyways Ladder There was a small gap on each side when the ladder was in place, so I added a couple of strips to make the well deeper, closing the gaps Step cut outs, with some boo boo patching

Thanks O, for the help and the nice comment. I'm sure I have some lines that are out of place, but they are close enough to convince me! I'll keep at it. I'm working on the ladder a little this morning. I sanded down the sides to make it a little less clunky looking, and I'm going to add the "speed holes" as well. I think the rungs look too thick as well, and thought about cutting them out and replacing them with some smaller diameter stuff. I'm sure I've got something in the "parts box"!

Another question...would Mav's plane have lines as indicated in red???

I cut out the ladder door from the bottom fuse, and started on scribing some panels. I'm using a needle to scribe my lines, and of course it brings out a raised edge on each side as the plastic is moved. I tried sanding these edges a little, and it seems to just push it back in, and close up the line some what. Does anyone have a suggestion for removing this excess material, and leaving a clean, scribed line? I printed out several reference blue prints, and there aren't any of them that are the same. I decided to just go with one which I felt was the closest, and maybe use some artistic licens
