  1. Jinmmy Del, the finish on that 109 is stunning. I will surely try that 'pre-mottle' technique on my next model. Chris
  2. Your splotchy, dirty finish is fantastic. Great job! Chris
  3. You must come to my house and give me a painting demonstration! Wow!! Chris
  4. Wow, You could teach a course on painting! Just wow! Chris
  5. Hey VFA-103guy, Nice!! Chris
  6. Just finished this one. It was a lot of fun to build but it seems like it took forever to finish.
  7. Wow, that's one great paint job! Chris
  8. A lot of people advise skipping primer, this is completely ok. However, a primer coat will show many of the things in your model that need fixing before a finish paint job. Things like seams between fuselage halves that may be totally invisible on a bare model tend to jump out when primed. Just a thought. Chris
  9. That shot of the exhaust cans is fabulouso!!
  10. Wow that looks great! I would love to know what you used for the panel line wash. My attempts are never as good as I would like, certainly never as good as yours...nice! Chris
  11. This is outstanding, that rotor head is amazing! Chris
  12. Wow Amraam, another amazing build from you. And another incredible paint/weathering job, wow...just wow. After seeing this when I get home I'm gonna toss my current build in the trash :) Chris
  13. Try using a scuff pad. Those things are great for models. Chris
  14. This is spectacular work and the finish is simply incredible! Would you mind sharing how you achieved the 'dirty, mottled' finish? It would be much appreciated when I begin my A7, I had pictured the finish looking much like this but have been wondering how best to go about it. You sir have nailed it. Chris
  15. I like the way a closed canopy looks for my models. Knowing that the canopy is going to be closed I cannot seem to make the investment in a super detailed resin cockpit that costs more than the model. :)/> I do like to add seatbelts but I can live without some microscopic gauges that almost cannot be seen through the canopy. I know that some people like to do this and it is perfectly fine since some people do like to "know that it is there". Me, I would rather know the money "is there", in my wallet, lol. Chris
  16. This might sound silly to those who have done it but how well can you see through an opaque tape such as Tamiya to see where to score it for the canopy lines? Chris
  17. Ooohhh, that engine looks nice! I would be very proud to have painted that one. Chris
  18. I have never used a non-clear tape for masking. It seems that with an opaque tape such as tamiya that it would be difficult to see the "canopy rails" and therefore where to make your cuts. But apparently this is not so? chris
  19. Phantom, Thanks for your reply. I have used clear tape in the past and never had a problem with residue. However, I have never left it on for so long a time either. I may play it safe and remove it until painting time. Just dreaded doing it though, with canopy masking being one of my most disliked things to do with modeling. sigh.... Chris
  20. On my recent build I have reached the stage of masking off the canopy so the model can be airbrushed. I did not think it through and went ahead and taped it off with invisible tape (the same tape you wrap gifts with). The problem is that I airbrush out in my shop and it is too cold to do it right now. It is likely to be several weeks or more until the temps are high enough that I feel comfortable spraying out there. I am not sure if I need to remove the tape and just redo it later or is it safe to leave on for weeks. Anyone have experience with this? Chris
  21. Boy do I feel stupid. Wish I would have known this before!!
