Lovel it Fred. great job.
I'm sure you will sort out the cabin door decal issue soon as well.

I like it!, I have one in the stash and was wondering which scheme to build it in. Looks like the metallic one is the way to go!
-
Excellent! You are building up a great collection of the special mission 135s

Another great effort, thanks for sharing

Nice job Chris!

So will this be the new AWACS for the USAF?
That's right Paul, up to 26 airframes to be procured starting in 2025.

Good to know about the wing seam issue Fred, I've got an -800 and P-8 in the stash and will apply this reinforcement when I attack them.

Don't forget the UK are also getting 3 airframes.
I have the Welsh Models kit which will do fine for me ( for now 😄 )

Another ouch! from me. On the bright side the decaling looks great! 🏆

Looking like a Herc now, the props look good

This is the original tooling of the 1/72 Airfix C-130 kit. I have built it as a USAF HC-130N CSAR aircraft or as the USAF puts it "the only dedicated fixed-wing Personnel Recovery platform in the Air Force inventory".
To build the HC-130N I added a added consoles and cabinets to the cockpit Tasman Models AN/ARD-17 Aerial Tracker Radome, inflight refuelling Hose Reel units from Flightpath and propellors from an Italeri C-130 kit. I also added the observer windows in the main cabin, the recover system rails and flare chutes on the upper ramp door and various antennas as seen on the aircraft. The HF antenna wires are Eziline. The decals are from the C-130 Herc sheet by Caracal Models and walkway outline decals from an Italeri AC-130 kit.

I regenerated the reference images here. There is nothing special in the top view of option 7 & 8 : the wing markings are largely similar to the standard high-visibility schemes of the period, similar to the LC-130.
Thanks, I have found them.

Sizes are:
United States Air Force: 58mm x 3mm
USAF: 56mm x 17mm
You'll have to convert to inches if necessary

Nice one! Looks really great. Question: will the RAAF fly them with a gloss/semi-gloss finish like your model? Just a question as most military use aircraft are matted 😉
-Greg
Like the AP-3C it replaced I expect it will be a satin/semi gloss finish, I left it glossed as I liked the look of it.

Nice model and I love the scheme, it is very different to your run of the mill Gripens!

Kursad, bumping this one again.
While the reference page exists the linked PDFs can't be found. Still after the top/bottom views for options 7 and 8, though all of them would be good for completeness

Don’t the As and Bs lack the two small portholes on the right side of the aft fuselage (the crew rest area)? I haven’t looked at P-3s in ages, but I think that’s a C identification feature.
Yes you are correct.

The main differences between the B and C were that that early Bs had a search light on the starboard wingtip and they only had a single sonobuoy chute under the rear fuselage. The antenna fit was also different as Niels mentioned. The B's radome was the same size as the C. The L-188 Electra had the smaller radome.
The Argentine Bs were not fitted with the search light.
I built the subject kits a few years back...
