  1. thanks for the heads up fellas, I'm not really worried about the 1/50 or 1/48 size issue, I just want a built up model of the type. heres a question, would the Monogram E be easier to convert to an A?
  2. I've been sitting on this little lady for about 20 years, I dont even remember if I got it at a club meeting or at a yard sale. The kits complete except for the decals, which if I remember correctly werent all that great to start with, and I think were some scale issues as well, but like I said its been so long ago I dont remember. So heres the plan, I'm gonna shoe horn the ejection seats from the Monogram F-8 Crusader into the cockpit (i bought true details correct replacements for the Crusaders) and try to dress up its appearence some as I get to it. Markings are going to be USMC of cour
  3. another update, all four engine pylons are together and three are attached to thier respective engine pods. This is where my careful assembly plan has started to bear fruit. Granted the molding isnt anywhere near what we're all used to today, but sanding the mating surfaces and double and triple checking assembly alignment before the cement comes out really does simplify the amount of seam work, atleast so far. I'm using the flash from the sprues as a filler for the tiny gaps and to blend contours in the hard to sand places. The only down side is the wait time for the cement to completely cure
  4. Just an update since I havent been on for a while. All four engine pods are together, just need to do some final blending of the intakes to the nacelle bodies. I installed the wing pylon slippers on the bottoms of each wing and filled the shallow spots with white putty. Last night I worked on the spoilers for the tops of the wings and thinned the trailing edges and the sides to give them a more scare appearence. The only other assembly so far has been the tail turret. I thought you guys might also like to know how I modified my build plans for this behemoth. I'm treating every sub-assemb
  5. I see that same model Cobra fly over pretty regular, actually get to see the airframes of re-patriated (also damaged) ones come in on flatbeds on occassion as well. Thats a great build you have going, I too am following with great interest
  6. I built one of these back in high school for a guy that was B/N in a 52 and did ARC Light raids, he also flew in D and G models before he retired. I think the only decals I want to replace off of the stock sheet are the national insignias, hopefully all the rest are still good. Harrier power plants, Brother I dont envy that job one little bit. I'll take chase'n bubbles and being soaked in hyd fluid any day of the week lol
  7. got my first orders from Sprue Bros. and Squadron in a LONG time today. I can now start filling the seams on my engine pods. Now I need to pick up some Zap-a-gap and Zip Kicker.....................
  8. I'm the SRO at the high school I graduated from. I feel for the OPs daughter and the victim and his family. I can speak from experience as a bullying victim and from seeing the way alot of kids cant deal with things in general today. It all starts at home. Parents interest, lack of interest or goading their kids to continue is where it all starts. I had to have a word of prayer with two varsity football players about this last week, one was embarassed, the other could've cared less. The one that couldve cared less also got mad at me when I wasnt intimidated by him after he tried to stare
  9. how about re-re-releases of the ancient model kits for 2 or 3 times the price................
  10. Well atleast I'm in like company, lol, 6222..........Avionics? I was an Intermediate level hyd mech on the C-130 and Hornet. I loved airplanes long before I started working on their parts. I've looked EVERYWHERE for Mr. Surfacer, it might as well be made of unobtainium
  11. if you know anyone that has kids that wear braces you can use the rubber bands they use to make the yellow lines on the bigger bombs, especially WWII 500 pounders and larger.
  12. When I was on the John C Stennis with 211 they ALWAYS carried a LANTIRN pod. The only time the pod came off was when it was down. I dont have any memory of one of their Tomcats ever carrying a TARPS pod. They had them, but they were tucked away in the hanger deck on their handling cart. Come to think of it, they didnt carry external fuel tanks for the cruise I was either after two aircraft lost them in flight. It wasnt until after we left Hobart on the way home that the parts came to fix the problem.
  13. on a side note.........anyone know who has Mr. Surfacer in the bottle in stock???
  14. Naw, thanks for the offer though LOL, I'm looking forward to having her in a nice simple slick set-up.
  15. @ xmh53wrench, lol, this will ne the only one I build, least till I move into a mansion. @ Jennings, who makes Hound Dogs? only source I ever knew of was swipe'n them from the Ertl H kit.
  16. Greetings all, this is my second post since I joined the forum a few days ago, so I thought I would post about my current project. I have just recently (in the last month) got back into modeling after quitting it in 2006 and selling just about everything I'd accumulated (600 plus un-built kits and everything that went with them). About 2009 I came across this old lady at a friends R/C shop and I picked her up for about twenty dollars if I remember correctly. I got the vertical and horizontal stabs assembled, as well as the front and rear MLG assemblies and wheels and just finished the
