1/32 Trumpeter A-10C Hog- "Putting Lipstick on a Pig of a Kit"
stephencraig replied to chuck540z3's topic in In-Progress Pics
Hey Chuck, This may not interest you at all, but I went on my weekly trip to the LHS today and picked up a copy of the September 2012 Tamiya Model magazine. In it they have an article on a 1/48 Monogram A-10. It has a shark mouth nose, but the interesting thing was the camo scheme. It was Med Green/Euro Dark Green/Dark Gray. It was really neat looking, so if you haven't decided on a paint scheme yet, you may want to take a look at it. Stephen -

Hi Chuck, Enjoying the new WIP like I thought I would. You may have already thought of this, but I was thinking about the dings on the nose the other night, and thought a good way to do them would be with your dremel using the different rounded bits for them. Since the nose is pretty thick plastic, you could grind out the dings, then smooth them up, apply some chipping, etc. BTW, thanks for the help on selecting the jet model. I settled on the TAM 1/32 F-16 Block 30 T-Birds. I'm going to do it with the black/gray/white Artic Aggressor scheme. Stephen -
Chuck, Super, super congrats on a gorgeous model. As I said earlier, this thread will be my main document of record when I get to building mine. Thanks again for a great WIP. I have a couple of questions (it wouldn't be me if I didn't ): Is the thread for the KUAN CF-18B still available? I would really like to read it. I have never built a jet except the Me 262, and could be very tempted to do one of the new super jet kits in 1/32. I saw in your A-10 stash, I see two boxes from Cutting Edge. Have you had those a while? I thought CE was now out of business. Stephen

Hey Chuck, I've been away for a bit - got heavily involved with the 109 - but just now got caught up on your thread. I wanted you to know that I greatly appreciate all your efforts. Not only your Master Modeling ability, but your patience and thoroughness with all the instruction and additional information. It is greatly appreciated. So much so, that even though I have the "How to Build the Tamiya P-51" book, from early on I had planned on using this thread as my guideway when I finally start building my P-51. In the course of the build I have also already learned new methods and technio

Thanks for the additional explanation, Chuck. So would the following summary be correct? for best results with Krylon and Alcad, give the Krylon at least a few days to cure, but not weeks. The longer you can give the Alcad to cure before masking the better (again, at least a few days?). Stephen
-
Hi Chuck. I guess I'm the slow one here. I didn't quite understand the Krylon/Alcan discussion. Are you saying you should let the Krylon cure a long time before applying the Alcad? Or are you saying to let the Alcad cure a long time before masking? Or both? Stephen

Chuck, If I may ask, how much are the belts costing from Mike. I was going to ask if I could get some as well. I went back and re-read the post. I was concentrating so hard about what you were doing with the rivet tool I completely missed the part about the belts  Stephen

Chuck, Glad to see you back. I've missed the conversations on this thread. I got those flexible resin .50 cal belts from MDC. I'm not sure if they would work or not. I need to pull out one of the bays from the kits and compare the size of the shells. Just looking at the MDC belts they look a little small, but may not be once I compare. I'll send an update on it in the next couple of days. Stephen

Chuck, FYI, I had to order some ejection chutes for the 109 from MDC, so I went ahead and threw in a set of their flexible resin 50 cal belts. I'll let you know how they are when they get here. Might be an option you want to consider for your gun bays. Stephen

Chuck or anyone else, not to hijack the thread, but since Chuck mentioned UMM having a sale, I was wondering if anyone had used the PropMaster? Is it even needed? Appreciate any feedback. Stephen

Chuck, Sorry for your family's loss, but having mother's and relatives pass with Alziemer's, I can completely understand the relief. Wife and I are very envious of your upcoming vacation. Are you using a travel agency for the trip (or package) and if so, which one? Stephen
-
BTW, I had ordered that UMM scriber when I ordered the Radu one, and I don't like it either. It's way too clunky. Stephen

Ordered! Stephen

Wow! The landing gear on the CF-18B is awesome! I've also heard you can use syringe needles for rivets. I might give them a try. Didn't you heat the tool earlier in this P-51 build? Stephen
